Goseong raw fish restaurant, kid-friendly sashimi to go: Bongpo Hoega
In short
Bongpo Hoega is a raw fish restaurant near Bongpo Beach in Goseong, Gangwon, that brings in its fish every morning from the local fish market auction. On a family trip with a young child, the writer skipped dine-in and took the assorted sashimi platter, medium (69,000 won), back to the rental instead, and Bongpo Hoega packed chojang, soy sauce, wasabi and chopsticks generously enough that setting the table was all that was left. With plump shrimp and a nutty homemade ssamjang included, takeout from Bongpo Hoega turned out to be the right call.

A while back I went on a trip to Goseong, Gangwon with my family, hoping to relax by the open sea. When you travel near the coast, fresh sashimi is basically a must-eat!
But traveling with a young child made sitting down at a restaurant for a leisurely meal pretty impractical. My kid can't eat sashimi yet and can get bored fast in a restaurant setting, so this time I decided to get sashimi packed to go so the whole family could enjoy it comfortably back at the lodging.

After searching and comparing several raw fish restaurants near Goseong, I stopped by Bongpo Hoega, a well-known Goseong sashimi spot that gets its fish straight from the morning fish market auction every day, and packed a full assorted sashimi platter. Let me walk through the location and parking, the surprisingly fresh takeout setup, and an honest taste review.
Where is Bongpo Hoega, and is there parking?
Bongpo Hoega is located at 69 Haksachon-gil, Toseong-myeon, Goseong-gun, Gangwon-do, near Bongpo Beach. There's a dedicated parking lot right in front of the shop, which made picking up takeout easy.

It's such a hassle when you have to leave your kid in the car briefly to grab a takeout order and parking is tight. At Bongpo Hoega, there was plenty of parking space right in front of the shop, so I could park and walk straight in without any trouble.

While waiting for my takeout order, I peeked around the inside of the restaurant. The tables were spaced generously and the whole interior was kept clean and tidy! If my kid were a bit older, or if adults were visiting on their own, it looked like a great spot to enjoy freshly cut sashimi in a bright, open atmosphere too.
Seasonal sashimi from the morning fish market auction
The most trustworthy thing about Bongpo Hoega is that the owner personally sources fresh fish every single morning through the fish market auction. Since the lineup is built around whatever fish is in best condition that day, you get to taste the tastiest seasonal fish depending on the time of year.

We pre-ordered the assorted sashimi medium (₩69,000), just right for 2 adults, and the neat packaging already had me excited before we'd even opened it.
What's inside the Bongpo Hoega takeout box, side dishes and homemade ssamjang included

Carrying the hefty takeout bag back to our lodging, we laid out the table right away. What impressed me most was how thorough the packing was and how generous they were with the sauces.

Sometimes when you get sashimi takeout, you end up short on chojang, wasabi, or chopsticks, which is annoying. But here, they packed chojang, soy sauce, wasabi, and chopsticks generously and neatly, so all we had to do was set it on the table at the lodging and start eating — really convenient. Along with the main assorted sashimi, a generous set of ssukdasi (side dishes) came included.

Seasonal assorted sashimi, shrimp, aged kimchi, ssamjang, wasabi, garlic and chili, and fresh lettuce for wraps.

There's usually a preconception that the side seafood in a takeout order is a bit skimpy or less fresh, right? But the shrimp included were so plump and fresh, with zero fishy taste and perfectly springy texture, that my bias against side dishes completely disappeared.

The garlic, chili, lettuce, and every other vegetable looked completely fresh, without a single bruise, as if just picked from the field.

The real highlight of this place was the ssamjang! Not the usual store-bought kind, but a homemade-style ssamjang packed with garlic and sesame oil, rich and savory. Putting a piece of sashimi on lettuce with a bit of this ssamjang made the umami explode and pushed the sashimi's flavor up several notches.
How the seasonal sashimi platter tasted: firm, springy cuts

The fish was sliced thick and beautifully, looking fresh at first glance! The texture was firm and springy, with no fishy smell at all, and the more you chewed, the more you could taste the fish's own savory sweetness.

Putting a thick piece of sashimi on lettuce with chili, garlic, and that special homemade ssamjang, then wrapping it up big and eating it, felt like it washed away all the fatigue of traveling. With the kid sleeping or being looked after comfortably at the lodging, the adults got to enjoy top-tier sashimi at leisure — this takeout choice was truly the right call.
