Lucky Dragon JCB: a Chinese-style izakaya down an alley by Sindang Station

Lucky Dragon JCB is a Chinese-style izakaya tucked in an alley off Dasan-ro 42-gil near Sindang Station. Mapo tofu, black vinegar pork, and draft beer 🍺 kyaa~~ My friend Jeongmin and I were out checking a Seongsu pop-up and decided to grab dinner and a beer here on the way. It's inside an alley but doesn't the exterior already have a vibe??

Feels like Sindang has gotten a lot more of these nice-vibe bars lately haha. It being Saturday evening, there were more people around too. Even from outside I could see it was fairly full, so I thought, good call coming here.

Inside Lucky Dragon JCB: the two-seat tables sit close together

Walking into Lucky Dragon JCB, you get a warm wood-tone atmosphere. Feels a bit like an izakaya and a bit like a Chinese restaurant — exactly the kind of vibe young people these days seem to like.

Sure enough, a little while later almost every table was full, and most of the customers were young. We were probably the oldest ones there lol. It was lively but not overwhelming, so it was a good spot to chat over drinks.

Oh, one thing! The 4- and 6-seat tables seemed fine, but the 2-seat tables had a bit of a tight gap between them, which was slightly disappointing. Other than that, the food was delicious and staff were kind! Also, something I quietly loved — they give you cold jasmine tea instead of water!

I love stuff like this ♡ There's a menu on the table, but honestly, at first glance the menu didn't really jump out at me..?

How QR ordering works at Lucky Dragon JCB

At Lucky Dragon JCB, we scanned the QR code on the table and found food photos with descriptions, so we picked our menu without hesitation lol

When you're not sure what to order, choosing by photo is the best! We went with mapo tofu + kuro-subuta (black vinegar pork). And of course, draft beer 🍺

Starting with Kirin draft beer

Started with Kirin draft. The glass came out ice-cold, refreshing just to look at! Took one sip and... kyaa~ haha. Draft beer, need I say more.

So refreshing, put us in a good mood before the food even arrived ♡

Kuro-subuta (black vinegar pork): the fried eggplant steals the plate

And then the black vinegar pork arrived.

It's not just packed with meat — it's loaded with vegetables like eggplant, bell pepper, and onion! The black vinegar sauce is sweet and tangy without being too sour or sharp, so I kept going back for more. (The eggplant especially was so good!!)

Eating the sauce-soaked fried eggplant together with the meat felt like eating delicious fried eggplant dunked in black vinegar sauce. It's low-key a hidden gem. My friend praised it too.

Mapo tofu with real mala heat, plus two rounds of cilantro

And then... mapo tofu! Wow... wow...

This is not the typical Korean-style mapo tofu you'd expect! One bite in, and I was like — oh, this place actually knows how to cook. The distinctive mala aroma and numbing spice are properly there, and the sauce is rich and thick.

I love mapo tofu, but in Korea there are places that make it too sweet or too mild, which is a bit disappointing, right? Lucky Dragon JCB is not that kind of place. Real mala flavor!! And they top it with cilantro too — as a cilantro lover, I was so happy ♡♡♡ (I ordered extra cilantro twice lol) Mapo tofu + cilantro combo, can't resist it lol

And when you eat mapo tofu, you inevitably think of one thing?? Rice!! They gave us rice for free! (They asked first if we needed a bowl.) A spoonful of rice piled high with mapo tofu — ah... this is both a drinking snack and a full meal haha.

One more round: Terra draft beer

While drinking Kirin draft, we added Terra draft too. Out came a glass cold enough to have slush ice forming, topped with a thick layer of foam.

Cheers again 🍺 A bite of mapo tofu, a sip of beer, a bite of black vinegar pork, another sip. This combo is just too good ♡

Small details: chopsticks, the QR review event and dessert

Something that seems small but that I quietly loved — the chopsticks. Disposable, but not the usual flimsy wooden kind — quite sturdy and nice-feeling. It's these small touches that make you feel the place put in effort.

Staff were kind even while busy, and being able to order via QR was convenient. The review event wasn't the kind where you have to flag down a staff member and show them something — you could apply for it right through the QR ordering system, which was easy. We even got the dessert from the review event, neatly enjoyed it too haha. It was shaped like a peach, so it was cute to look at ♡

Would I go back to Lucky Dragon JCB in Sindang?

We only came in for a simple beer in Sindang at first, but after eating, I realized — Lucky Dragon JCB is a great-vibe bar, but above all, it's really a place that cooks well!

I especially want to eat the mapo tofu again right now. We only managed two dishes this time... (heard the fried rice is good too...ㅜ) Looking at the menu, I kept getting curious about the other dishes too ㅠ (Next time, I'm ordering a few more dishes and starting over again with a Kirin draft, I've decided lol)

If you want Chinese-style food with a cold draft beer in Sindang, Lucky Dragon JCB is the spot — I'd definitely go back!
