Sindang Korean BBQ for sweet makchang: Jinseong Hanwoo Gopchang

In short

Jinseong Hanwoo Gopchang Sindang Direct Branch is a Korean barbecue restaurant in Jung-gu, Seoul, one minute from Sindang Station Exit 7. We ordered one portion each of gopchang, daechang, and makchang, plus kkakdugi yangbap, while the staff handled the grilling. Verdict: the sweet beef makchang lingered in my mind until dawn.

A gopchang restaurant near Sindang Station Exit 7

This was the second day I was meeting my friend back from Paraguay (dramatic). When we met last time, I asked what she wanted to eat, and she said beef makchang?!?! So I searched hard for great gopchang and makchang spots and found Jinseong Hanwoo Gopchang, a popular gopchang place in Sindang-dong. It had been ages since I’d had makchang too, so I arrived very excited. It had that open-air dining vibe, and we ate really well!

Visiting Jinseong Hanwoo Gopchang in Sindang-dong

Come out of Sindang Station Exit 7 and you can find Jinseong Hanwoo Gopchang in one minute. The interior was huge, with high ceilings, so it felt pleasantly open. We arrived five minutes before 6 p.m., while there were still seats available, and sat right at the front! The weather has been nice lately, and it had that outdoor-table kind of feeling, which I loved haha. Then within five minutes every seat was taken, and by the time we left, it was beyond full—the wait was insane..... hahahahaha. It really seemed like a truly popular Sindang-dong gopchang restaurant!! I recommend coming early.

Hanwoo gopchang, daechang, and makchang menu prices

First, the menu! They have hanwoo gopchang (Korean beef small intestine), hanwoo daechang (Korean beef large intestine), and hanwoo makchang (beef fourth stomach). They cost ₩19,000, ₩19,000, and ₩20,000 respectively. There are only two dessert-menu items too: kkakdugi yanggal for ₩9,000 and anchovy noodles for ₩6,000. Drinks and alcohol were not listed separately, but I assumed they would be at the usual prices. We ordered one Coke, and I think it was ₩3,000.

The menu board even introduced its best dishes hahaha.

More, please!!! It looks like the pickled minari-and-garlic sauce has unlimited refills hahaha. The sauce was really generous, sweet, and delicious though~

Pickled minari and garlic sauce notice

Jinseong Hanwoo Gopchang, the Sindang-dong gopchang spot, says it proudly serves top-quality Korean beef prepared with care! Apparently, it also makes its own green-onion kimchi, gat kimchi (mustard-leaf kimchi), and young radish kimchi.

Notice about house-made kimchi

They also sell the green-onion kimchi to take home, and the ingredients’ “hometown” (!) is all Korea. Calling it a hometown is just so fitting hahaha. And everything being domestic is really great—this is the real deal. This is that “More, please!!” minari-garlic sauce hahaha. With minced garlic, Cheongyang chili peppers, minari, and more, it was so, so tasty. Later I was just fishing out the bits and eating them because they were delicious hahaha.

There was seasoned chive salad too. It was not the spicy red-pepper-flake version; it was more sesame oil plus soy sauce. It was tastier grilled than eaten as-is~

House-made kimchi! I should have eaten more of the gat kimchi.. I really love gat kimchi, but I realized too late and was so sad ㅠㅠ My friend grilled the green-onion kimchi and loved it, saying it was delicious.

We ordered one portion each of gopchang, daechang, and makchang. You can immediately see the size of each portion~ Half the grill was filled with bean sprouts, chives, cabbage (?), kimchi, potatoes, and more. Steamed egg came as a free service too.

Eating the gopchang after the staff grilled it

The staff left a timer and came back when it was done to grill everything for us. They looked busy, so we started doing it ourselves, but someone came running over from inside, waving their hands at us hahaha ㅠㅠ Since they grilled everything deliciously themselves, it was actually even better~

One portion each of daechang, makchang, and gopchang was ready! Now it was time to eat. The chives keep cooking in the residual heat, so you can put them back on top.

Starting with gopchang~ It came out already dusted with lots of seasonings, you know? So it was well-seasoned and tasty even without dipping sauce~ But I gave it a generous dip in the minari-garlic sauce.

One bite with the seasoned chives too! The gopchang filling was not excessively packed, just the right amount~ My friend, who does not especially like it stuffed full, actually liked it even more.

And of course, the nicely cooked bean sprouts and chives.

It really was an all-purpose sauce that tasted good with anything,, hahaha

The sweet beef makchang I thought about until dawn

This time, makchang~ No, Jinseong Hanwoo Gopchang is really a great place for beef makchang, you know? It had been so long since I last ate it, and the beef makchang was sweet and delicious—I was thinking about it until dawn.. hahaha.

Then some daechang too~

Kkakdugi yangbap and scorched rice for dessert

For our dessert carbs, we ordered kkakdugi yangbap (fried tripe rice with cubed radish kimchi). It was topped with seasoned shredded radish and kkakdugi, and the yangbap had the feel of kimchi fried rice.

And we scraped up every last bit of the scorched rice!
