Short bob and volume magic perm at Gunja Station hair salon HairOnDeu
In short
HairOnDeu Gunja Station Branch is a hair salon on the second floor of a building on Cheonho-daero in Gwangjin, Seoul, a 3-minute walk from Exit 5 of Gunja Station on Line 5. To tame shoulder-length hair that kept flipping out at the ends, the writer talked it through with Manager Doi and had a short bob cut, a volume magic perm and a Milbon clinic treatment over about 3 hours. There was no pushy upselling at HairOnDeu, and the finished short bob came out exactly as clean as requested.

HairOnDeu Gunja Station Branch 'your only design'
I was somehow managing to hold off on growing my hair out, but then I saw a bixie cut and my short-hair itch flared right back up... My hair ends were already brushing my shoulders and constantly flipping out (the so-called 'homeless zone'), which was bugging me a lot, so when I found a place near Gunja Station with great volume magic perm reviews, I booked an appointment and went.

Taking the elevator up and walking in a bit, the shop came into view.

What is HairOnDeu Gunja like inside?
The interior of HairOnDeu Gunja Station Branch is decorated in white tones, giving it a clean, tidy impression. Even though I visited on a weekday morning, there were quite a few customers there.

I went on a weekday morning and there were still quite a few customers around. While waiting a bit, I looked around the shop, and with the white-tone decor it felt clean and tidy.

If it weren't for the hair tools, the vibe was good enough to pass for a café.
HairOnDeu Gunja price list: cut, magic perm and clinic
At HairOnDeu Gunja Station Branch, the magic perm premium is ₩150,000 and the clinic set is ₩160,000, with no extra charge for length. Cuts range from ₩15,000 to ₩22,000, and a bangs trim is ₩3,000.

This is HairOnDeu's price list. Being able to check prices by treatment helped when deciding on a style to fit my budget. The magic perm premium was ₩150,000 and the clinic set was ₩160,000, with no extra length charge. Cuts ran ₩15,000 to ₩22,000, and I was surprised the bangs trim was only ₩3,000. Aren't bangs trims like ₩10,000 everywhere these days??

On top of that, there was an ongoing event where you get reward points if you pay with Naver Pay.
Style consultation with Manager Doi
My designer was Manager Doi. I brought two photos — a short bob and a bixie cut — for the consultation. Based on my face shape, hair texture, and thickness, she explained the pros and cons of each style, and we settled on a short bob with a volume magic perm.

My designer was Manager Doi. After being shown to a seat, I had a quick style consultation with her.

I brought photos of the hair I wanted (one a neat short bob, the other a bixie cut) — I liked both but wasn't sure which would suit me better. When I told her that, she explained the pros and cons of each style based on my face shape, hair texture, and thickness. After consulting with her, I decided on a short bob plus volume magic perm.
Three hours from short bob cut to volume magic perm
The cut took about 30 minutes, and the whole process — cut, Milbon clinic, volume magic perm, and blow-dry — took about 3 hours total. When I mentioned it was my first time with a short bob, Manager Doi adjusted the length to fit my neckline.

We started with the cut. Since I mentioned it was my first time going short bob, she adjusted the length to my neckline, which made it feel less daunting than I expected.

The cut took about 30 minutes, I think.

Judging by how much hair had fallen, it did get noticeably shorter.
Scalp massage and Milbon clinic in the shampoo room
After the cut, I moved to the shampoo room

I got a scalp massage with real skill behind it, plus the Milbon clinic treatment.

After the clinic, we got into the actual magic perm. While the solution was on and processing with heat, she brought out some snacks for me. I was a bit hungry, so I really enjoyed them.

When I mentioned my ends tend to flip out, she made sure to curl them extra tight at the tips. All together, the cut, clinic, volume magic perm, and blow-dry took about 3 hours.
At the end, she walked me through how to dry and style my hair — she said for the volume magic perm, applying curl cream and blow-drying from back to front makes styling easy.
Before and after: how did the short bob turn out?
The short bob with volume magic perm I got at HairOnDeu Gunja Station Branch came out with the clean, short-bob look I wanted, without being too short.

Here's the before and after. It had been a while since I'd gotten a volume magic perm and cut together.

Overall the length wasn't too short, and it came out exactly with the clean short-bob feel I wanted, so I was very satisfied. I'd booked with Manager Doi because of good reviews on layered cuts and magic perms, and after seeing how carefully she handled everything from consultation to cut to volume magic perm, I felt like it was the right choice.

I found out afterward that Manager Doi, who handled my treatment this time, mainly specializes in layered cuts and magic perms, and specifically in restorative magic perms.
It had been a while since I'd cut my hair and gotten a volume magic perm at the same time. If you're looking for somewhere near Gunja Station that's good with volume magic perms or layered cuts, give HairOnDeu a try. There was no pushy upselling — they worked with the style I wanted as much as possible, which made for a comfortable visit, and the result came out just the way I wanted, so it was quite a satisfying treatment.
