Today I'm bringing you a review of Gatjidong Noeun Branch (갓지동 노은점), where I went for lunch with my mom near my parents' place.

I was looking for something that wouldn't be too heavy for lunch but would still be easy to eat together with my mom, so we went for an old-style pork cutlet and a pork cutlet kimchi nabe udon. Picking a menu with my mom is usually a bit tricky, but this time both dishes were comfortable choices for us, which I really liked.

Roomy tables inside Gatjidong Noeun Branch

Spacious tables at Gatjidong Noeun Branch

Walking into Gatjidong Noeun Branch, I found the tables were quite generously spaced. There were window seats good for two and larger tables for groups, so my mom and I could sit comfortably and eat at our own pace. I also saw families dining there — the relaxed atmosphere of the place made it look like a good option for a family outing too.

What's at the self-serve bar?

Self-serve bar with broth and old-style soup

The self-serve bar at Gatjidong Noeun Branch had broth, rice, kimchi, pickled radish, and an old-style Korean-style soup. It had been a while since I'd had a warm soup at a pork cutlet place, so I grabbed a bowl before the meal — it was smooth and easy to eat. Kids' bowls and forks were also set out, so anyone visiting with children could use them comfortably.

What we ordered for our mother-daughter lunch

Ordering was done through a kiosk, which was convenient. The menu ranged widely from pork cutlets to udon, rice bowls, and curry, and after some deliberation we ordered a pork cutlet + mini udon and a pork cutlet kimchi nabe udon.

Pork cutlet with mini udon

Warm broth mini udon

The pork cutlet and mini udon came out first. The cutlet was fried crisp, and with the sauce it had a familiar, clean flavor that was easy to eat. Having the mini udon alongside meant we also got a warm broth, so it was plenty filling for a lunch on its own. Sharing the two dishes with my mom meant we both got to try a bit of everything, which was nice.

The pork cutlet kimchi nabe udon combined a warm udon broth with kimchi and pork cutlet. The kimchi added a slight spicy kick to the broth, and with the cutlet on top, this one bowl alone was quite filling. It's a good choice for when you want something a bit heartier than regular udon.

Finishing the meal

Digestive tablets set out at the exit

On the way out after the meal, there were digestive tablets set out too. It's a small thing, but seeing them prepared for anyone who might need one after eating gave the impression that the restaurant was thinking of its guests.
