A day when I was craving steak and pasta. Looking for a good spot in Boram-dong, Sejong after a while, I ended up at Olivus Compagno Sejong Boram Branch. I've always liked pasta, and this time I was really in the mood for aglio olio.

To cut to the conclusion first: the aglio olio was genuinely satisfying, so much so that I got curious about the other pasta dishes and want to go back. The steak, on the other hand, was cooked exactly how I like it, but the flavor left me a little wanting.

Inside Olivus Compagno: atmosphere and space between tables

Walking into Olivus Compagno Sejong Boram Branch, maybe it was the high ceilings, but the space felt bigger and had a nicer atmosphere than I expected. The table spacing overall was decent too, good for a relaxed meal.

It was cutely decorated with paintings and small props, haha.

Why 1pm is the quiet time to visit Olivus Compagno

We visited around 1pm. Maybe because we avoided the lunch peak, the store had a fairly relaxed atmosphere.

What I liked most was how easy parking was. Plenty of places stress you out over parking if you drive, but this time both the meal and parking were fairly hassle-free.

When we sat down, the table was neatly set up. That day we ordered flat iron steak, aglio olio pasta, and a triple berry passionfruit ade.

Looking at the menu, there were quite a lot of pasta options. Besides aglio olio, there was cream pasta, tomato pasta, vongole, and more — I wanted to try each one on a future visit.

The drink came out first: triple berry passionfruit ade. Refreshing and sweet, good to drink alongside the food.

And then the steak I'd been waiting for showed up.

How was the flat iron steak cooked, and how did it taste?

Olivus Compagno's flat iron steak was cooked exactly right, but the flavor was, for me, fairly ordinary. The visuals were pretty appetizing though — the steak came plated cleanly with grilled mushrooms, tomatoes, and vegetables.

Doneness is one of the things I really care about, and this steak nailed it. Not overcooked, not undercooked — just tender and easy to eat, cooked to a satisfying medium. The texture of the meat itself was on the softer side too.

The doneness was great, but the depth of flavor wasn't quite what I expected, which was a bit disappointing. Given the reasonable price though, you might be satisfied if you factor that in^^ Of course, this comes down to personal taste and preference. Between the two dishes I tried that day, I liked the pasta far more than the steak.

Why the aglio olio at Olivus Compagno stood out

Olivus Compagno's aglio olio was the dish I liked most that day. Honestly, the biggest reason I came to Olivus Compagno in the first place was that I wanted aglio olio. One bite in, and I thought, "Oh? The pasta here is actually good?"

The noodle texture was excellent, and the overall seasoning matched my taste perfectly. In particular, the garlic and oil flavors weren't overpowering, so the pasta's own flavor really came through. Personally, this ranks among the best aglio olio I've ever had. Completely my type, haha.

Twirling it up and taking a bite, I understood why I got curious about the other pasta dishes. "I need to come back and try a different pasta next time" — that thought hit me immediately.

If I come back, I'm trying a different pasta! Olivus Compagno has a wide range of pasta dishes besides aglio olio. So next time, I'm planning to order something I didn't get to try this time. Since I liked the aglio olio so much, I'm really curious about how the other pastas taste.

Putting the steak and pasta together, it's a pretty hearty meal. Add a pizza or another pasta on top, and it could make for a nice date meal or family outing.

• Aglio olio → The most satisfying dish that day. One of the best aglio olios I've had.
• Triple berry passionfruit ade → Refreshing and sweet, good to drink alongside the food.

And most of all, visiting around 1pm meant a relaxed meal and easy parking, so overall satisfaction with the visit was high.
