In short

Omokgyo Gopchang Mokdong Main Branch is a beef offal (gopchang) grill restaurant a 5-minute walk from Exit 1 of Omokgyo Station in Mokdong, Yangcheon-gu, Seoul. Calling all gopchang lovers! I headed to Omokgyo Gopchang for mixed gopchang after work on a Friday night. The garlic gopchang, stuffed with whole cloves that cut through the greasiness and leave only nutty flavor, was the highlight 👏👏 Since the intestines are domestic and slaughtered the same day, there was no off smell at all, and I loved that they make their own green onion kimchi and prepare different sauces for each cut. Here's the full review!

How to find Omokgyo Gopchang from Omokgyo Station, and where to park

Omokgyo Gopchang is an easy walk from Exit 1 of Omokgyo Station on Subway Line 5 — about 5 minutes on foot. Turn into the alley and you'll spot a big standing signboard out front, so it's not hard to find.

There's no dedicated parking lot, so if you're driving 🚗, it's best to use the Mokdong public parking lot or the E-Mart Mokdong parking lot. Evenings can get busy, so if you're coming for a group dinner in Mokdong or with a large party, I'd recommend calling ahead to check on seating.

Right at the entrance, they've got the segment from the TV show Live Today Broadcast playing, featuring their traditional handmade garlic gopchang — I knew right away this was the signature dish I had to try. The inside walls were covered in autographs and the place was packed with customers, confirming it as a solid group dinner spot in Mokdong 👍

After the meal, they even have deodorizer spray, hair ties, a designated-driver business card, and dental floss on hand — the owner's attention to detail is great.

We ordered the signature mixed gopchang for two, plus finishing fried rice.

Side dishes and the complimentary spicy sundubu-jjigae

The basic side dishes were beef stomach lining, potato salad, chive salad, and green onion kimchi, served alongside sesame oil dip, spicy house sauce, and shiitake wasabi sauce. They also brought out a complimentary spicy sundubu-jjigae — the tofu chunks were big, and the broth was spicy enough to pair well with the gopchang.

Of the side dishes, the green onion kimchi was definitely the best. According to the menu, they use green onions grown facing the sea winds of Jindo, and grilling them alongside the gopchang made them even tastier!!!

Mixed gopchang for two on a bed of bean sprouts and chives

Mixed gopchang for two at Omokgyo Gopchang, cut by cut

After a short wait, the mixed gopchang arrived, piled high on a bed of bean sprouts, onion, and chives. The gopchang comes pre-cooked, but it's best to grill it for another 3 minutes or so before eating. They even do a little fire show where flames shoot up over the gopchang — the nutty smell spreads and any off smell disappears instantly 🔥

Beef heart

The heart is served raw, so we lightly seared just the surface and ate it first. Not tough at all — soft yet chewy. Paired with the chive salad and dipped in sesame oil sauce, it wasn't overpowering, making it the perfect starter for the mixed gopchang!

Hwangso gopchang cooking on the grill

Hwangso gopchang, makchang and honeycomb tripe

The hwangso gopchang had a rich, nutty flavor from the fat that was seriously delicious. Chewy on the outside, juicy inside, and topping it with grilled green onion kimchi cut through the richness perfectly. The makchang had a springy, firm texture, while the honeycomb tripe's distinctive surface gave it a fun crunch, true to its name. Every cut had a different texture, but the green onion kimchi and house sauce combo worked great with all of them 👍

Traditional handmade garlic gopchang

The signature dish at Omokgyo Gopchang is the handmade garlic gopchang, made using a 30-year traditional method. Plump whole garlic cloves tucked inside give it a look totally different from regular gopchang 🧄🧄🧄 The outside is golden and chewy while the garlic inside cooks to a soft, mealy texture — the nuttiness of the gopchang and deep garlic flavor together made this the best dish of the night. I'd recommend dipping it in sesame oil sauce to enjoy the flavor as is!

Daechang (large intestine)

The glistening daechang, paired with chives and the spicy house sauce, cut the richness while doubling the nuttiness ><

Flying fish roe fried rice to finish

Once we'd finished most of the gopchang, we ordered the fried rice. The portion was pretty generous — one order alone would probably be plenty! Pressed down on the hot stone plate, the bottom turned crispy while the flying fish roe popped in your mouth — so good 🍚

On the way out, there's a photo booth by the entrance hahaha — that was a fun touch too.
