Midnight café in Uijeongbu tasting 3 Basque cheesecakes: Forerest

I was looking for a café to visit late after dinner and ended up at Forerest in Uijeongbu. I heard it stays open until midnight, so I went at a nice, leisurely hour after eating.

It happened to be raining that day, so when I first stepped up to the entrance it felt a little eerie, haha. There were various statues and art pieces scattered around the entrance, which strangely matched the gloomy weather.

But once I parked and actually got a proper look at the café building, the whole vibe changed completely.

It felt like visiting a huge mountain lodge or a beautiful house! Every space was decorated a little differently, so it was fun just to look around. It wasn't just a café with a few tables scattered about — it felt more like visiting a friend's house where every room had been thoughtfully decorated. Really unique!

🌿 The unique spaces at Forerest, a Uijeongbu café

Forerest is a large café, so it was comfortable to sit and chat at ease. What I liked most was that each space had a different mood, so it was fun to find the one that suited me and move around exploring.

We wandered through the café's various room-like spaces saying, "oh, this one has a totally different vibe!" haha. Maybe because it was a late rainy night, but this unique atmosphere ended up sticking with me even more.

These days a lot of cafés close earlier than you'd expect, so staying open until midnight is a real plus! 👍🏻 It seems like a great spot if you're looking for somewhere to have a late date or unwind with conversation after dinner 🥂

🍰 Comparing the three Basque cheesecakes

And now for the menu item I was most looking forward to at Forerest — the Basque cheesecake. ❤️ I love Basque cheesecake in general, so I tend to order it often whenever I'm at a café.

I'd heard the Basque cheesecake here was really good, so this time I decided to properly compare them by ordering all three — matcha, black sesame, and chocolate.

🖤 Black sesame Basque cheesecake

The black sesame flavor is packed in generously. If I had to describe the feeling of eating it, it's like eating a black sesame rice cake coated thick with sesame powder!

Of the three, this one held its shape most cleanly when cut with a fork, and it was relatively less dense when eaten. Instead, the nutty, mellow flavor of black sesame really comes through, so I'd recommend this one if you prefer a more subtle taste. 🩶🩶🩶

🍫 Chocolate Basque cheesecake

The chocolate one is seriously sweet-sweet-sweet! The chocolate flavor comes through really rich and deep.

When cut with a fork it does break into pieces, but the texture is soft and dense, reminding me of a fudgy brownie or a Matilda chocolate cake. Chocolate lovers will probably like this one best! 🤎🤎🤎

🍵 Matcha Basque cheesecake

As someone who loves matcha, this matcha Basque cheesecake felt like a gift! Of the three, it was the softest and most dense.

Just watching the cake slide up smoothly as I scraped it with my fork was mesmerizing. When I ate it, it was so dense it practically stuck to the inside of my gums, and the matcha flavor came through quite strong — really delicious. 💚💚💚

It's amazing how different the flavor and density can be depending on the ingredients — that's the charm of a handmade cheesecake, I think 🙆🏻‍♀️🧡 If you like Basque cheesecake, you really should try the matcha one. 💚🤎🩶

🍵 Paired with hot peppermint tea

It was quite cold that day because of the rain, so for drinks we ordered hot peppermint tea and hot chocolate. The peppermint especially had a generous amount of tea leaves, so the flavor came through fairly strong.

After eating the dense, rich Basque cheesecake, taking a sip of the warm, clean peppermint tea cleared my palate and made the cheesecake taste even better. As someone who loves Basque cheesecake, this combination was really satisfying.

Personally, I felt like Forerest wasn't just a café for drinks and dessert — it's more like a place where you get to relax while exploring unique spaces.

The view and sound of the rain were quite lovely, so a lot of people were sitting out on the terrace seats. I thought that if word gets out about this place, it's going to get really crowded, haha.

If you're looking for a large café in Uijeongbu or want to spend some relaxed time in a distinctive space, this is worth a visit. As someone who loves Basque cheesecake, comparing all three flavors was genuinely fun, and if you're hunting for a good cake spot in Uijeongbu, I'd really, really, really recommend the Basque cheesecake here. 🍰 Next time I'll probably order the plain one I haven't tried yet 💛
