The name literally has "gopchang" in it, but the makchang here is amazing too!! I've found a place I really want to recommend📢

The thick, chewy seasoned makchang gets grilled once more over charcoal, and dipped generously in wasabi mayo it makes you want to crack open a drink🍺

A name anyone who loves gopchang or makchang has probably heard of! Today I headed out to Gobuni Gopchang Hanam Misa branch🚨

Inside Gobuni Gopchang Hanam Misa Station Branch: mood and seating

The restaurant has about 6-7 tables for two and 4 tables for four, so it looked like it could easily handle a group of 10 or more if you push the tables together.

I went to Starfield during the North/Central America World Cup, and seeing the big TV here made me think — if there had been a night match, this would've been the place to watch it👀

Salt, seasoned or teriyaki: which charcoal-grilled makchang to order

Gobuni Gopchang is known for its gopchang, makchang, and odolppyeo (crunchy cartilage) grilled directly over charcoal for that smoky flavor, but honestly, I've never tried the gopchang or odolppyeo menus — there's one dish I always order here. It's the chewy makchang! Charcoal-grilled makchang comes in several flavors like salt, seasoned, and teriyaki!

Having tried all three, I'd rank them seasoned & salt > teriyaki.

What we ordered at Gobuni Gopchang and what it cost

  • Charcoal-grilled seasoned makchang (2 servings) ₩34,000
  • Rice ball ₩5,000

I usually mix seasoned and salt, but today I was already full so after much deliberation I went with seasoned😆 One thing that stands out about this Hanam Misa spot: ordering makchang comes with corn maronie and chives served alongside!👆🏻

And the wasabi mayo they give you so generously is such a highlight. You have to mix it up as soon as it arrives!

Perilla leaves, pickled radish, vinegar-chili sauce, and crunchy peppers all joined in to maximize the seasoned makchang's flavor — such an enjoyable meal😎❤️

The rice cake grilled sizzling hot, crisp on the outside and chewy inside — total win❤️

Plus, the savory scorched rice (nurungji) to calm the stomach after all that seasoned makchang!☺️

What goes into the 5,000-won rice ball

The rice ball is packed with flying fish roe, pickled radish, seaweed flakes, and plenty of mayo. Mixing it by hand is simply mandatory. Roll it up into bite-sized balls and you're ready to eat!😋

3 things that have changed at Gobuni Gopchang since my last visit

Charcoal-grilled makchang pieces in varied sizes
Makchang coated in thick seasoning sauce

1. The makchang pieces now come in more varied sizes and shapes. The bigger ones were chewier while the smaller ones were crispier — I actually preferred the crispy small ones. The texture was lively, so it never felt greasy.

2. The portions are bigger now. Eating out has gotten pricier lately, and offal cuts were never cheap to begin with, but if anything the bigger portion feels like a bonus deal..?!haha

3. The sauce has gotten a lot richer and thicker. Grilling that thick sauce once more directly over charcoal made the makchang extra sticky and chewy!?

Overall, there's a lot here for anyone who loves makchang, so it's a Misa restaurant worth checking out at least once~! Lots of families come here, and it's also a great spot to come with friends for a fun weekend drink alongside delicious gopchang and makchang😍
