Goyang makguksu with easy weekday parking: Bongpyeong Gohyang Makguksu

While looking for lunch spots near Goyang, on the outskirts of Seoul, I ended up at Bongpyeong Gohyang Makguksu. I'd stopped by a café in Goyang and was hunting for a lunch place nearby — even though it was a weekday, there were way more people than I expected. Honestly, this might be the best makguksu (buckwheat cold noodles) I've had recently 🤍 The parking space was spacious too, which made it a great lunch stop if you're heading out to the Goyang area near Seoul. Here's my review of Bongpyeong Gohyang Makguksu!

Where is Bongpyeong Gohyang Makguksu, and is parking easy?

Bongpyeong Gohyang Makguksu is at 1128 Hoguk-ro, Deogyang-gu, Goyang-si, Gyeonggi-do, and it's open daily from 11:00 to 20:30 (last order 20:00). It's closed every Monday, and parking is available.

Bongpyeong Gohyang Makguksu sits on the road from Deogyang-gu, Goyang toward Wondang. There's parking space not just in front of the restaurant but also in the back, so it felt quite spacious. Easy to park.

This place serves dishes all made with buckwheat noodles. Apparently you can also get healthy buckwheat makguksu to go!

Inside Bongpyeong Gohyang Makguksu at noon on a weekday: seating and mood

I figured it'd be a bit quieter since it was a weekday midday, but when I actually arrived there were quite a lot of customers? I got there early at noon, and by 1pm almost two-thirds of the seats had filled up. The interior was also more spacious and clean than I expected! There were several tables, so it looked like a fine spot for family meals or visiting in a bigger group.

Even with a lot of customers, the food came out quickly, which was nice. Water and extra side dishes are self-serve. There's also warm buckwheat tea!

Menu and prices, plus what we ordered that day

The menu centers on makguksu, along with boiled pork, buckwheat pancake, and perilla buckwheat kalguksu! The signature items are mul makguksu ₩11,000, bibim makguksu ₩11,000, perilla buckwheat kalguksu ₩11,000, suyuk (boiled pork) ₩23,000, and buckwheat pancake ₩9,000!

That's what we ordered. Eating just makguksu felt like it wasn't quite enough, so we added suyuk, and for something warm we got the perilla buckwheat kalguksu too, and shared it all ~

Suyuk (boiled pork slices), 23,000 won

The suyuk (boiled pork) came out first! You can't skip suyuk at a makguksu place ~ The meat itself was tender and easy to eat, and it paired really well with the makguksu. If you're visiting with a group, ordering one suyuk to share seems like a good idea.

What does the perilla buckwheat kalguksu taste like?

First up, the nutty perilla buckwheat kalguksu. It's buckwheat noodles in a savory broth made with perilla seeds — the broth was light and nutty, easy to eat without feeling heavy. The makguksu was great too, but if you like a warm noodle soup, I'd also recommend the perilla buckwheat kalguksu!

Why the bibim makguksu was the most satisfying dish

The bibim makguksu was the best makguksu I've had recently! My favorite dish of the day ㅠ I'm not usually a big fan of makguksu, you know? I prefer thin naengmyeon noodles, which is actually why I ordered kalguksu instead of makguksu today!! But the noodles here were genuinely good. The sauce wasn't overly intense, and eating it with the noodles brought out a really nice savory depth. Out of all the makguksu I've had recently, this was personally my favorite! If you like makguksu, I'd recommend the bibim makguksu.

Before finishing up and heading out, I also tried the buckwheat tea. There's a waiting seat near the entrance, so I sat there briefly and had some buckwheat tea. It was nuttier and better than I expected, haha.

Is Bongpyeong Gohyang Makguksu worth a weekday lunch trip?

Bongpyeong Gohyang Makguksu, a spot I found while looking for good food near Goyang on the outskirts of Seoul. I wondered if it was some famous place since it was busy even on a weekday afternoon, but once I actually ate there, I got why it draws a crowd ~ The parking is spacious, and above all, the bibim makguksu was the most satisfying part for me. If you're heading to Goyang or looking for a lunch spot while driving around near Seoul, Bongpyeong Gohyang Makguksu is worth a stop :) Next time I'm in Goyang, I'll probably come back for makguksu again, haha.
