Hanam Misa Chinese restaurant where picky kids ate abalone: O Hyeongje

O Hyeongje Hwangje Nurungjitang Hanam Misa Main Branch is a nurungjitang (crispy rice soup) specialty restaurant at 616-1 Misa-daero, 1st floor, Hanam-si, Gyeonggi-do. As the weather turns a little cooler these days, I find myself craving warm, hearty food instead of cold dishes.

When eating out with kids, taste matters, but so does finding a menu the whole family can enjoy while still getting some nutrition in. My kids aren't usually big seafood eaters, but strangely enough, they really eat abalone nurungjitang well. So this time we went out for some hot nurungjitang together.

O Hyeongje Hwangje Nurungjitang Hanam Misa Main Branch has a spacious hall, and by mealtime it fills up quickly with family reservations. I was surprised at how big the place was when we first walked in — and despite its size, so many families come in with reservations that the hall fills up fast once meal hours hit.

The customers ranged from families with kids to families bringing along their parents. Watching that, I naturally found myself thinking, 'If my parents lived nearby, I'd want to bring them here too.'

The interior was kept clean and tidy overall, so it was comfortable for a family meal. We also got to watch serving robots bring the food over, which the kids found fun too :) If you're looking for a spot for a Hanam family gathering or a family meal out with your parents, this is a nice touch as well.

Hot abalone nurungjitang, still bubbling when it arrives

O Hyeongje's abalone nurungjitang came to the table already bubbling away. Just the sight of it was enough to stir up my appetite.

And then, the nurungjitang we'd been waiting for! Taking a hot spoonful, the toasty flavor of the rice soup combined with the warm broth made everything feel calming inside. With the cooler breeze starting to blow these days, one bite was enough to warm me up from the inside out.

And it's not just rice soup — abalone and various other seafood are mixed in, so one bowl was pretty filling on its own. If you're looking for good nurungjitang in Hanam, I think this dish will come to mind even more as mornings and evenings get cooler.

A dish that even our seafood-avoiding kids ate well

What I liked best about O Hyeongje was that the kids actually ate well. Normally, even if I pick out seafood for them one piece at a time, they sometimes won't touch it — but the abalone and seafood in the nurungjitang, eaten together with the rice soup, went down surprisingly well.

Watching the kids blow on the hot rice soup before each bite made me feel oddly satisfied too, haha. Rather than putting together a bunch of dishes at home, having one meal like this with so many different ingredients and seafood made me think, 'today was a really nutritious meal!' I think this is a solid option for anyone looking for a good Chinese restaurant in Hanam to bring kids to.

A Hanam restaurant I'd like to revisit with my parents

After visiting O Hyeongje Hwangje Nurungjitang Hanam Misa Main Branch, the first thing that came to mind was my parents. I thought it would be nice to come here with them, since they prefer warm, hearty food over anything too spicy or strong.

Kids can eat the rice soup without much fuss, while the adults can fill up on the abalone and other seafood alongside it — so it seems like an easy menu choice for families of different generations eating out together.

The place is spacious and clean, and after eating there I could see exactly why so many families come here. If you're looking for a spot to take your parents or a family gathering place near Hanam Misa, this is one worth trying at least once. When the weather turns even colder, I think I'll be craving that bubbling hot nurungjitang again :)
