Storefront of Damgeum Gelato Misa Branch

Maybe it's because autumn is the season for good appetites, but lately after eating out I keep craving ice cream or gelato. I wanted something better than run-of-the-mill ice cream — gelato where you can actually taste the ingredients — so I went searching and ended up here: Damgeum Gelato Misa Branch!

If you've been hunting for a good gelato spot in Misa, you've probably heard of this place already. After trying it myself, I get why people love it.

The store's atmosphere was pretty impressive too.

Interior of the gelato shop with an Italian atmosphere

It felt clean but also had that distinct Italian gelateria vibe — I only popped in for a moment, but it genuinely felt like a little trip abroad.

Neatly arranged café seating area

The space itself isn't cluttered — it's neatly arranged, so it was nice to sit and relax while eating gelato.

What makes the handmade gelato taste Italian?

Signage explaining traditional handmade methods

It's not just gelato made in an Italian style — the defining feature is that it's based on traditional Italian handmade methods. And apparently this shop is a store certified by the Italian government.

Damgeum Gelato hand-preps fresh ingredients and makes the gelato in-store. There are menus that really bring out the natural flavor of fruits and nuts, so it definitely felt different from ordinary ice cream. You could really feel the owner's passion coming through in the gelato.

Also, I liked that Damgeum Gelato keeps the sweetness low and lets the natural flavor of the ingredients shine through.

Bottom line: the gelato itself is smooth and clean, so it's a style kids can enjoy too. It'd be a great stop in Misa when you're out with your child and wondering, "what should we get for dessert?"

Picking two flavors in one cup at Damgeum Gelato

Gelato showcase with many flavors on display

What I love is trying several flavors at once. At Damgeum Gelato, both the single cup and the cone let you pick two flavors, which is perfect if you can't settle on just one.

The handmade gelato two-flavor single cup is ₩7,000, and the two-flavor cone is ₩8,000. There's quite a variety of flavors, so it actually took me a while to decide. From familiar flavors like milk and orange, to menus using seasonal fruit, to slightly unusual ones (like makgeolli or fig), there's plenty to choose from depending on your taste.

Single cup of pure milk and stracciatella gelato
I chose pure milk and stracciatella (chocolate chips in milk).

After some deliberation I went with pure milk and stracciatella (chocolate chips in milk gelato). Gelato has a slightly smoother, chewier texture than regular ice cream, and as it melts in your mouth, the ingredients' own flavor lingers subtly — that's the charm of it.

Spoonful of smooth gelato

If overly sweet desserts feel like too much for you, this style of gelato would probably suit you better.

The flavors also change with the seasons, so it seems like it'd be fun to try something different every time you visit.

Does the gelato pair well with coffee?

Coffee enjoyed alongside gelato

Even though it's a gelato specialty shop, gelato isn't all there is. They also serve americano, lattes, and other espresso-based drinks, so you can enjoy coffee alongside your gelato.

Americano and espresso menu options

All the coffee prices are affordable, so it's easy to add one without a second thought. They use freshly roasted specialty beans roasted domestically, and it sounds like they put real care into the coffee too. In particular, a certified barista trained at an Italian barista school sets up and manages the coffee, so enjoying a cup alongside your gelato should be a treat.

Lemon tiramisu and other desserts on the menu

Display of tiramisu and cookies among other desserts

Besides gelato, there are desserts like tiramisu, sablé, and whole wheat cookies, so you can pick according to your taste.

They also sell amaretti and cantucci. Wouldn't those make great gifts?

Amaretti and cantucci packaged as gifts

Since I wanted to share with my companion, I also ordered the lemon tiramisu (₩11,000). The moment you take a bite, a bright burst of lemon fills your mouth, followed by the rich, mellow smoothness of the mascarpone cream wrapping around it.

Cross-section of a bitten lemon tiramisu

While classic tiramisu is all about the heavy sweetness of espresso and chocolate, the lemon tiramisu feels light and uplifting, like spring sunshine. You can really feel the care put into this one dessert.

Is Damgeum Gelato Misa Branch worth a dessert stop in Misa?

Gelato and coffee setup at Damgeum Gelato Misa Branch

Gelato really is different from the ice cream you can grab anywhere — once you try it, it has a way of staying on your mind. Damgeum Gelato Misa Branch in particular felt less like just grabbing an ice cream and more like enjoying the combo of great gelato, coffee, and an exotic atmosphere.

Exotic-feeling interior of the Misa dessert café

If eating a meal and just having coffee near Misa Station feels a bit lacking, gelato is a great option! It's a nice Misa café to visit with kids, and also good for a sweet dessert on a date. If you love gelato like I do, it's worth stopping by Misa at least once. Recommended!
