Sometimes when I look back on time quietly slipping by, I'm shocked how fast it whooshes past 🥲 Now that I'm in my mid-thirties — recognized for my abilities at work, eating great food with friends, traveling, at an age with so much still ahead of me — I keep thinking about how precious my mom's time is, and it makes me a little sad 💧
When I eat something delicious, when I feel happy somewhere on a trip, I always wish my mom could have memories like that too. So even if not always, I try hard to make time for us together ✨
This time, I took my mom to Matgim, an omakase-concept dining bar — our first time trying a place like this together! I picked this spot carefully because I wanted to share with her the happiness I feel — a daughter's happiness — when I'm somewhere with good atmosphere, delicious food, and a glass of wine. And sure enough, every bite was pure joy 🫶🏻 Reasonable prices, great vibes, delicious food, a glass of wine — everything about Matgim was complete, nothing missing. Let's get started at the bar! ✨

What is Matgim like inside? A small room built around the bar counter
Matgim is a compact restaurant. Even from outside, it radiated great atmosphere, and I felt good knowing I'd picked the right place 💘

Matgim runs a monthly changing chef's-choice course menu at ₩35,000 / ₩50,000, perfect for a meal with a drink on the side.

For guests who've already eaten dinner elsewhere, they'll also prepare a simple pairing snack for ₩10,000–20,000 per person — perfect for a lighter night out ♥️

Watching things, it seemed like a single owner runs the place, but the aesthetic and atmosphere weren't rough at all — everything was neat and pretty ✨ A place that makes you want to take photos..❣️
The interior atmosphere is so good..❤️ The table layout fits an omakase concept perfectly, and there's one table seat too, so it'd work great for coming with friends! Isn't the atmosphere just amazing??
The food is also meant for sharing, so it's perfect for two — great for couples on a date too 🫧 No wonder there were couples seated on both sides of us..👩🏻❤️👨🏻 Still, I was happy with my mom 😂 haha
What's in the September course at Matgim, and what does it cost?
Matgim has two menu options: the ₩35,000 course and the ₩50,000 course. Here's what September's course looked like!

- ✔️ ₩35,000 course (6 dishes) - Fig & tofu cream cheese / grilled napa cabbage heart / tripe taco / daily pasta / pork tenderloin steak & herb chimichurri / plum granita
- ✔️ ₩50,000 course (7 dishes) - Fig & tofu cream cheese / grilled napa cabbage heart / tripe taco / daily pasta / Swedish meatballs / flank steak & herb chimichurri / plum granita
We ordered the ₩35,000 course 🙆🏻♀️

The one rule you must follow at Matgim is ordering a drink! 🍷 One drink per person is required. But since the drinks aren't expensive, it wasn't a burden at all ❣️

The water bottle was such a cute little blue glass bottle 💙

We ordered the seasonal fruit ade for ₩9,000 and the house glass white wine for ₩10,000! The seasonal fruit ade turned out to be a refreshing strawberry ade! 🍓 Cheers, feeling good already! 🥂

First course: fig with tofu cream cheese
The first dish out was the fig & tofu cream cheese 🧀

The clean tofu and the savoriness of the cream cheese went together beautifully, and the fig was perfectly ripened — so sweet and with great texture — topped off with the salty umami of prosciutto 🫢♥️

A bite of food, a sip of wine — the pairing was insane, and I was already in a great mood from the very first dish ❣️

Matgim's signature grilled napa cabbage heart
Next up was the signature dish — grilled napa cabbage heart 🥬

Lightly charred napa cabbage with the salty umami of caesar dressing, plus cheese, chives, and bacon — total direct hit on my taste preferences 💘

I was eating it so happily that my mom pushed it toward me saying 'eat more' haha hahaha

Third course: beef tripe tacos
Next was the tripe taco!

I'd watched Kongkongpangpang (a Korean variety show) so much and always wondered about tripe tacos — and here I was actually eating one ❣️ I thought about adding cilantro for a nice photo, but I'm way too much of a cilantro-hater, so I gently set that idea aside and just ate it as is..😚
The tripe taco had tripe, guacamole, tomato salsa, and tortilla — refreshing yet clean, perfect as a palate cleanser midway through! If I could order extras, I'd want five more 🤤
I also watched the owner hard at work between courses, putting so much passion and effort into everything — it made the food taste even better ✨

Hanwoo beef ragu pasta
The fourth dish was a ragu pasta made with Korean beef (hanwoo) mince 🍝

From the plating to the visual, it was top-tier 🙆🏻♀️ I'm personally not a huge ragu pasta person, but Matgim's ragu pasta had such incredible umami ㅠㅠ

The fragrance of parsley, the freshness of cherry tomatoes, the umami of the hanwoo mince, and the savoriness of cheese — the balance was so harmonious that I loved it from the first bite to the last ❣️
And there was a flashy fire show right in front of us too haha 🔥🔥🔥

The main: pork tenderloin steak
The main dish was pork tenderloin steak 🥩

Sous-vide cooked for a juicy texture, the pork tenderloin came with a herb chimichurri sauce, cauliflower puree, popping whole grain mustard, and pickled gungchae (a leafy vegetable)!

Piling the cauliflower puree and chimichurri sauce onto the pork tenderloin with a bit of whole grain mustard — the herby fragrance and the popping texture in your mouth were incredible 🥲 Every sip of wine and every bite of food were a perfect match at Matgim's course ♥️

Finishing with plum granita
Last up was the plum granita — a sorbet with no cream, packed with pure plum flavor, topped with frozen shine muscat grapes and jelly. So refreshingly tart-sweet 🍑 — the perfect palate cleanser to end the night. A completely satisfying dinner right to the last bite ✨
Is Matgim worth it? Final verdict on this Geomdan omakase bar
My overall verdict on Matgim, the omakase bar in Geomdan:
If you're looking for a great spot in Geomdan New Town for a birthday or anniversary, if you want a bar with great atmosphere for a date, if you're after a course meal that won't break the bank, if you want an omakase bar for a light drink, or if you're just looking for a restaurant with a special concept — I fully recommend Matgim in Geomdan ♥️♥️♥️
To be able to try such a variety of dishes as a course at this price, with such great atmosphere too — it's perfect for a date, chatting quietly together, and it naturally made me think of my boyfriend and wish he could come with me next time 🫧
Following Matgim's philosophy of letting them handle the menu while you enjoy the atmosphere and the time, why not spend this weekend at Matgim with someone you love — delicious food, a perfectly paired drink, and a great atmosphere all in one? ✨
