Bakery near Seorak Waterpia in Sokcho for kids' snacks: Bultan Gamja
In short
Sokcho Bultan Gamja Bread Main Store is a potato bread bakery on Haksapyeong-gil in Sokcho, Gangwon, and we stopped in for water-play snacks while staying near Seorak Waterpia. We bought a 4-piece box of potato bread for 10,000 won and a 12-piece Sokcho jjondeugi (chewy dried squid strips) set for 10,000 won, sharing them as kids' snacks and evening beer bites, then froze the leftover potato bread and carried it back to Seoul. With families filling the shop and a large parking lot out front, Sokcho Bultan Gamja Bread Main Store is an easy stop mid-trip.

Today, following the octopus jjaglee place, I want to introduce another Gangwon-do road trip favorite: the Sokcho bakery "Bultan Gamja Bread" (burnt potato bread).
Where is Sokcho Bultan Gamja Bread Main Store, and what are the hours?
Sokcho Bultan Gamja Bread Main Store is at 34-20 Haksapyeong-gil, 1F, Sokcho, Gangwon, and it's open Monday to Sunday from 9am to 6pm. On public holidays it just runs an hour shorter, until 5pm.
I booked accommodation near Seorak Waterpia in Sokcho, so I visited the main store!! Turns out Bultan Gamja Bread has 1st and 2nd branches too, besides the main one!! The moment I punched it into the navigation and pulled up, the building's exterior was so hip I was genuinely surprised haha.

The parking lot was also huge, which was very satisfying!!!

Most people were visiting with their families. I guess that makes sense since it's a healthy snack option.

What to see inside the shop while you wait
As soon as we walked into the Sokcho Bultan Gamja Bread Main Store, there was a TV playing showing how the burnt potato bread and Sokcho jjondeugi are made and what they taste like — I ended up watching it pretty intently while waiting for our order haha.

We also got to check out the Moose Toy, a figurine you paint yourself! Apparently the Moose Toy was created as a collaboration between CF director Kim Hak-hyeon and Pororo designer Choi Sang-hyeon — a ceramic art toy. For 10,000 won, you can paint a figurine however you like and finish it, so it seemed like something kids could enjoy trying.

There was also a microwave set up in one corner of the store so you can warm up your potato bread.

What we ordered at Sokcho Bultan Gamja Bread, and the prices
We decided to try Sokcho Bultan Gamja Bread's burnt potato bread and the Sokcho jjondeugi!
- 🥔 Sokcho Bultan Gamja Bread [4-piece] ₩10,000
- 🦑 Sokcho Jjondeugi set [12-piece] ₩10,000
- 🐻 Paint-your-own figurine, Moose Toy (Moosekey) ₩10,000
- 🧃 Various drinks, etc.

How is the Sokcho potato bread made?
Bultan Gamja Bread is made fresh every morning using Gangwon-do potatoes that get washed and roasted daily. Boiling or steaming the potatoes would be easier, but to bring out the potato's natural sweetness, roasting apparently makes it taste the best, so that's how they do it.
The outside of the bread is coated in powder ground from grains like squid ink, black sesame, black beans, and black rice. What I liked best was that there are absolutely no synthetic additives! Such a great snack for kids too, right?

Domestic potatoes plus additive-free bread — love that ❤️

How the potato bread tasted as a water-play snack for kids
When the kids got hungry in the middle of playing in the water, I gave them Sokcho Bultan Gamja Bread as a snack — the outside was chewy like glutinous rice, and inside was a fluffy potato paste filling. It had a creamy yet slightly salty taste that the kids loved too!!
We froze the leftovers right away and brought them back with us. Even frozen, they said it still tastes just as good if you microwave it 40 seconds on one side, flip it, and 40 seconds on the other. If using an air fryer, 180°C for 10 to 15 minutes works too!!

Sokcho jjondeugi as a beer snack
The Sokcho jjondeugi was also appealing. It says it contains squid extract, and the moment you tear open the package, that squid smell wafts out — really enticing.
Eating the jjondeugi right after the potato bread worked really well together, since it's sweet too haha. Every night during the trip when we had a beer, this was a light, easy snack to go with it and we ate it up happily.

Delivery prices for Sokcho Bultan potato bread
After coming back to Seoul, I thought I should've bought more potato bread and jjondeugi as gifts for people around me!! Delivery orders are also possible — 3 boxes for 34,000 won, 5 boxes for 50,000 won, 10 boxes for 100,000 won — so ordering by delivery seems like a good option too!! That was Bultan Gamja Bread, the snack that comes to mind when you think of Sokcho.
