Sokcho bakery two-box set: squid ink potato bread and jjondeugi
In short
Sokcho Bultan Gamja Bread Main Store is a bakery café on quiet Haksapyeong-gil in Sokcho, Gangwon, with a view of Mount Seorak. The writer bought one box of squid ink potato bread, 4 pieces for 10,000 won, together with Sokcho squid-flavored jjondeugi (a chewy Korean snack), 12 pieces for 10,000 won, and found the potato bread soft and pillowy and the jjondeugi lightly scented with squid. The gift packaging at Sokcho Bultan Gamja Bread is well made, so the two-box set travels well as a Sokcho souvenir snack.

Squid ink potato bread and jjondeugi combo set Sokcho Bultan Gamja Bread Main Store - 09:00 - 18:00 (closed Thursdays)

Yum yum yum! I first met potato bread at Gamjabat in Chuncheon. Turns out that familiar potato bread has a slightly different character here in Sokcho. _ Let me introduce a fun find from Sokcho: Sokcho potato bread and Sokcho squid jjondeugi.

Where is Sokcho Bultan Gamja Bread Main Store, and is there parking?
The address is 1F, 34-20 Haksapyeong-gil, Sokcho-si, Gangwon-do. Sokcho Bultan Gamja Bread sits in a quiet spot with a view of Mount Seorak.
It's within 5 minutes of Sokcho IC, Sono Felice CC Delpino, Seorak Hanwha Resort Waterpia, and Plaza CC. It's within 15 minutes of Kensington Resort Seorak Valley, Pine Ridge CC, Yeongnangho CC, Sokcho Beach, and Sokcho Jungang Market.
For parking, there's a large lot right in front of the store.

How much do the potato bread and jjondeugi cost?
Sokcho Bultan Gamja Bread box (4 pieces): ₩10,000 Sokcho jjondeugi (12 pieces): ₩10,000
We bought the potato bread and jjondeugi as a combo set! My husband loves jjondeugi, and squid-flavored jjondeugi from Sokcho? Couldn't resist. The packaging really feels like a proper Sokcho souvenir snack. Haha.

What makes Sokcho Bultan potato bread different?
'Sokcho Bultan Gamja Bread' bakes its potato bread fresh every morning, capturing the colors of Sokcho, Gangwon. Here's how the shop describes it.
- We wanted the potato bread to deliver the real taste of potato itself. Instead of artificial sweetness, we flavor it with cream cheese and butter. The black color comes from squid ink, capturing the color of Sokcho while keeping the bread healthy as well as delicious.
- The dark 'bultan' (scorched) potato bread was made to recall the memory of blackened potatoes roasted in an old-fashioned agungi (traditional wood-fired stove).
- We use potatoes from Gangwon-do, washed and roasted fresh every morning. Boiling or steaming is easier, but roasting brings out the potato's natural sweetness best.
- The outside of the bread is coated with ground grains — black sesame, black beans, and black rice.
- No synthetic additives are used at all. We follow a same-day-made, same-day-sold principle.

How does Sokcho squid-flavored jjondeugi taste?
The Sokcho jjondeugi sold alongside the bread apparently comes in three flavors, each capturing a bit of Sokcho's character. Unfortunately, the day we visited, only one flavor was available...!ㅠ_ㅠㅠ The one we brought home was squid-flavored.
The moment you open the bag, a burst of squid aroma hits you. The flavor doesn't overpower the classic jjondeugi taste — the squid scent blends nicely with the sweet corn flavor of the chewy snack. (Apparently there are also red snow crab, squid, and dakgangjeong (sweet-spicy fried chicken) flavors, both specialties of Sokcho.)
Even before tasting it, the soft, squishy texture of the Sokcho potato bread already puts you in a good mood. Haha, looks delicious already, right?

Opening the 4-piece potato bread box and freezer storage tips
Each box holds 4 pieces of potato bread. Just like a potato really roasted in an agungi, the black bread has two little holes poked through it^_^ Feels like it was pulled out with a long skewer, haha.
That familiar potato bread flavor we all know! With that great taste and a fun character all its own — Sokcho Bultan Gamja Bread, haha. It would make a great gift, and it's also a nice pick-up if you're visiting Sokcho on a trip.
You can freeze any leftover potato bread, so we stocked some up at home! ^_^ Oh, one more tip — microwaving it for just 20 seconds apparently makes it even tastier. It's a sweet flavor you'll want to share with the people you love. I recommend Sokcho Bultan Gamja Bread as a Sokcho souvenir snack!
