In short

Damso Main Branch is a Korean beef charcoal grill restaurant on the 8th floor of a building on Geumo-ro in Dongmyeon, Yangsan, Gyeongnam, where every seat is a private room. The writer ordered Combo A (sirloin plus specialty cuts) for ₩50,000, Combo B (specialty cuts) for ₩55,000, and Korean beef doenjang stew for ₩7,000, grilled smoke-free on a downdraft grill. I visited a beef restaurant with private rooms in Seoksan, Yangsan. This is my review of Damso Main Branch in Yangsan. It's an elegant, quiet Yangsan Korean beef restaurant that I'd strongly recommend for a meeting-of-parents dinner, a family meal out, or hosting guests. I went to properly restore my body from the summer heat with a Korean beef combo set covering a variety of cuts. Let's get into the review.

Location and parking at Damso Main Branch

Damso Main Branch in Yangsan is located in Dongmyeon. It's on the 8th floor of the building right next to Yangsan Jeil Hospital. For parking, you can use the building's underground lot, which offers 3 hours free! The parking space is spacious with plenty of spots. The moment I stepped off the elevator on the 8th floor, the atmosphere completely changed from the exterior.

All private rooms — good for meeting-the-parents or hosting guests?

The interior was really clean and pleasant too. Every seat is a private room, done in a clean, calm white tone that made for a very private dining experience. I'd recommend this to anyone looking for a spot for a family gathering, a meal with parents, a meeting-of-parents dinner, or hosting an important guest.

Spacious reserved table with basic setting
Individually set side dishes and accompanying vegetables

Since I'd made a reservation in advance, the table was already neatly set when I arrived. The table was spacious, giving plenty of room. Side dishes were even set individually per person — salt, pickled onion, pickled chili, cucumber pickle, pickled garlic chives, and various vegetables to grill alongside the meat.

Charcoal on the grill with downdraft ventilation

A downdraft grill — does it get into your clothes?

With beef, fire matters, right? The charcoal was just right for grilling the meat, haha. One of the things I liked best was the downdraft ventilation system. Instead of smoke rising up while grilling, it gets pulled downward, so there was no smoke while eating and it didn't get into my clothes at all — I loved that!!

What's in Combo A and Combo B

After a short wait, the Korean beef finally arrived. The marbling alone was gorgeous...

This is the Combo A lineup: sirloin, brisket point, and outer skirt steak.

Combo B with hanger steak, outer skirt steak, and tenderloin

This is the Combo B lineup: hanger steak, outer skirt steak, and tenderloin. With such a variety of cuts, the differing textures made it even more enjoyable to eat.

Korean beef cooking without smoke

Look at it grilling quietly without any smoke — the faint charcoal aroma seeps in while the outside cooks quickly and the inside stays juicy. I think the most important thing with beef is really not overcooking it!!

A piece of Korean beef dipped in salt

First bite, the classic: salt. Dip it lightly and it just melts... the juices burst out with a savory richness spreading through, and the beef itself was so good I didn't need much else with it, ugh.

Mushrooms, sweet pumpkin, and potato grilled alongside the beef

Side vegetables and banchan

The mushrooms, sweet pumpkin, and potato that came with it were also grilled on the same plate. Personal tongs were provided too, so you could grill them yourself to your taste. Can you see the juicy, plump visual?!...

The banchan (side dishes) served alongside were clean and well-made too, and the pickled chili in particular really stuck with me. It had a faint salted-seafood aroma and a spicy kick that paired perfectly with the rich beef! The pickled garlic chives had a savory soy-based seasoning too, keeping their crisp texture alive and cleansing the palate nicely.

Grilled Korean beef with lettuce wrap vegetables

Looking at these photos again makes me want to eat it all over again. I should go with family for Chuseok this year. I kept thinking I should wrap it in lettuce too, but the meat was so good I felt it'd be a waste to wrap it, haha.

Well-marbled grilled Korean beef sirloin

The sirloin with its proper marbling just melts softly in your mouth. Also, the potatoes that turned golden brown on the grill at the end were way more delicious than expected, haha.

A full spread with Korean beef doenjang stew at Damso Main Branch

Finishing with Korean beef doenjang stew

After eating the beef so happily, I started craving rice. So I ordered the Korean beef doenjang stew.

The Korean beef doenjang stew was packed with solid ingredients. It was full of tofu and various vegetables, and above all had quite a lot of Korean beef in it. The broth had a savory depth that went perfectly with rice.

Scooping it generously over rice and mixing it in was absolutely delicious. It cut through the richness after eating meat and left me full and satisfied to finish the meal. You really have to try the Korean beef doenjang stew!
