I saw a YouTube video saying that people these days eat so much meat that we get plenty of omega-6 but not enough omega-3, so I went straight out to eat grilled fish at Hwaddeugeuro, an Anyang Stadium favorite, haha.

Parking at the Bisan branch is easy since there's an underground lot, and I got 3 hours free. It's convenient enough that I'd recommend it as a group-meal spot if you're looking for restaurants near Anyang Stadium.
Menu and prices

Boyang set for 2 is ₩43,000, boyang set for 3 is ₩63,000, the oven-grilled mackerel set is ₩16,000, and the oven-grilled Spanish mackerel set is ₩20,000. We each ordered our fish based on our own tastes — I love mackerel the most out of all fish, so I got mackerel, and my boyfriend ordered Spanish mackerel.
I liked that there was such a variety of fish that you could pick based on your own taste. If you're visiting with a group, I'd recommend ordering the boyang set so you can enjoy the braised dishes together too.
How long is the weekend lunch wait?
We visited during weekend lunch and the spacious restaurant was packed. There was a wait, haha, but since the place is so big, the line moved fast.

It's a healthy, delicious menu, so it's a perfect pick if you're looking for a family group-meal restaurant near Anyang Stadium 😊 People of all ages were eating happily.

The clean kitchen was open to view, and they were genuinely grilling the fish in a wood-fired oven, which felt trustworthy.
What's on the eco-friendly vegetable self-bar?
My favorite thing about Hwagango (short for Hwaddeugeuro Gan Godeungeo) was the eco-friendly vegetable self-bar. Not only could you refill the basic side dishes, you could make bibimbap (mixed rice) with fresh vegetables — and there was even lettuce and ssamjang (seasoned soybean paste) for wrapping the fish! Haha.

On top of that, there was tteokbokki (spicy rice cakes) and nurungji (scorched rice) too, haha. There was so much to eat even before the fish arrived.
Side dishes and bibimbap

These are the basic side dishes: japchae (glass noodles), cheongpomuk-muchim (seasoned mung bean jelly), chonggak kimchi (young radish kimchi), gochu-doenjang jangajji (pickled peppers in soybean paste), and macaroni salad. All of them were refillable at the self-bar.

Rice and siraegi guk (dried radish green soup) come standard, and the rice is refillable too!
I made bibimbap first, loading it up with vegetables and plenty of gochujang.

Since the vegetables were eco-friendly, they were naturally good for you and tasted great too. Because the fish is grilled to order in the wood-fired oven, it can take a little time, but there was so much to eat as an appetizer in the meantime that it worked out great.

How the wood-fired mackerel and Spanish mackerel taste
The oven-grilled fish arrives. Right away you can see the size difference between the Spanish mackerel and mackerel, haha. My personal favorite, mackerel, was grilled beautifully golden brown.

I dipped it lightly in soy sauce mixed with wasabi. It just melted in my mouth, haha. The mackerel's savory flavor was even stronger from being grilled in the wood-fired oven.

My boyfriend's Spanish mackerel — much bigger than the mackerel. Spanish mackerel has less oil and a lighter, cleaner taste than mackerel. Mackerel has a strong, distinctive flavor, while Spanish mackerel is more subtle, so I'd recommend it even for people who don't usually like fish.

Personally, I love the strong flavor of fish, so mackerel won by a landslide for me, haha. Since it's grilled in the wood-fired oven, the fish alone tastes amazing! I'll definitely be coming back to Hwaddeugeuro Gan Godeungeo Bisan Branch for grilled fish.

Eating it wrapped in lettuce was genuinely delicious too. The ssamjang wasn't too salty, so I scooped up a generous amount and ate it together ^.^

There was so much meat on the fish, and there was zero fishy smell, haha. It was grilled fish with only the good flavors left ^.^

It was delicious eaten with bibimbap, wrapped in lettuce, or paired with nurungji — so many ways to enjoy it, haha.
Is it worth it for a group meal in Anyang?

This place has even appeared on Song Ga-in's YouTube food show 'Namgyeoseo Mwohage,' so the taste is definitely guaranteed, haha.
