Seorak Makguksu Chuncheon Dakgalbi Yangju Branch — moist dakgalbi (marinated chicken stir-fry) with a deep charcoal aroma, and makguksu (buckwheat noodles) loaded with pine nut flavor.

My partner and I went to Yangju to eat dakgalbi and stumbled on a place we were really happy with. I love dakgalbi and have tried charcoal dakgalbi at plenty of spots, but this one is right up there among the best I've had — this is the place I'll think of first from now on whenever I'm craving dakgalbi in Yangju!! So here's my honest review :)
Where is Seorak Makguksu Chuncheon Dakgalbi in Yangju, and when is it open?
Seorak Makguksu Chuncheon Dakgalbi Yangju Branch is located at 211 Mansong-ro, 1F, Yangju-si, Gyeonggi-do, South Korea. Hours are 11:00–21:00, with a break time from 15:00–16:00, and it's closed every Tuesday. Good to note — corkage is allowed here.

It was a nice, cool day, and we showed up right as break time ended. The parking lot was spacious so parking was easy and stress-free. It's near Yangju Lakewood CC, so a lot of golfers seem to stop by too~!
Every table had a proper hood system, and the seats next to the counter were in a private room, which looked great for groups wanting some privacy.
Just so you know, the women's restroom is inside the restaurant and the men's is outside. The women's restroom has two stalls and was super clean!
What we ordered at Seorak Makguksu and what it cost

At Seorak Makguksu Chuncheon Dakgalbi Yangju Branch you order via the tablet at your table. I ordered my favorite charcoal dakgalbi for two, plus one each of the water and bibim dessert makguksu, and even the jeonbyeong (buckwheat pancake roll).
- Charcoal dakgalbi for 2 — ₩32,000
- Buckwheat jeonbyeong — ₩9,000
- Dessert makguksu, water & bibim — ₩12,000

They're also running a Naver receipt review event where you can choose either jeonbyeong or two drinks, so make sure to do it and grab your reward. (The jeonbyeong is delicious, so I recommend picking that one!)
What's on the self-serve bar?

You can grab extra side dishes at the self-serve bar. Perilla leaves and peppers aren't part of the basic table setting, so if you like those, feel free to go get them right from the start. Cabbage salad, lettuce, perilla leaves, yeolmu kimchi (young radish kimchi), garlic, peppers, and dongchimi (radish water kimchi) are all available.
Among the basic side dishes, the dongchimi broth was refreshingly cool, and I kept spooning it up haha.
Charcoal-grilled chicken thigh dakgalbi: how does it taste?
The pre-grilled charcoal dakgalbi arrives at the table! The staff keeps grilling it for you, so all we had to do was sit back and wait 🥰🥰
There's something about watching dakgalbi sizzle over charcoal that really gets the appetite going. My mouth was watering..🥹 Watching it cook over the coals made me want to dig in immediately.

Once it's fully cooked, they stack two pans together so it stays warm without burning further.

I grabbed a perfectly cooked piece and took a bite right away — the subtle charcoal aroma hit from the very first bite, and I loved it.

One of the reasons I love charcoal dakgalbi is exactly this smoky flavor, and at Seorak Makguksu Chuncheon Dakgalbi Yangju Branch the charcoal aroma wasn't so strong that it overpowered the chicken — it blended naturally with the seasoning!

Also, since they use only chicken thigh meat, it wasn't dry at all — soft and even more delicious for it..💕 Genuinely one of the best charcoal dakgalbi I've had. I really love a dakgalbi place near Bukhangang, and this was good enough to rival it.
Buckwheat jeonbyeong, the side that pairs best with charcoal dakgalbi

We also tried the buckwheat jeonbyeong (₩9,000) we ordered alongside.

The chewy buckwheat wrapper was fried crisp, which was great, and the filling was generous too. Alternating between a bite of dakgalbi and a bite of jeonbyeong immediately made me think of makgeolli (rice wine) 🫢 It pairs so well with the dakgalbi that I'd definitely recommend ordering it alongside⭐️
Dessert makguksu: water or bibim, which should you order?

I was going to order just one dessert makguksu, but I wanted to try both bibim and water versions so I got both (₩12,000 for water and bibim), and I was really glad I did!

I mixed the sauce evenly and took a big chopstick-full — tangy, spicy, and sweet flavors spread through my mouth.

Especially after eating the charcoal dakgalbi, it felt like it cleanly reset the flavors lingering in my mouth.

The buckwheat noodles were cooked just right, with a nice texture and a clean buckwheat aroma that made them easy to slurp down continuously. Piling on some dakgalbi made it even better. The water makguksu had a strong pine-nut broth flavor, which I loved since I'm a pine nut fan~! It was a real standout dish..🧡
Verdict: is Seorak Makguksu worth it for charcoal dakgalbi in Yangju?
If you're craving charcoal dakgalbi in Yangju, this is a place worth revisiting! The dakgalbi has a subtle smoky aroma woven throughout, and using chicken thigh meat made the texture satisfying too. The seasoning wasn't overly sweet or harsh either — it had a savory depth built on the natural flavor of the ingredients that keeps you thinking about it!
On top of that, you get to pair it with makguksu made from house-made buckwheat noodles, which made it even better~! (If you like pine nuts, you have to try the water makguksu)
Finding a genuinely great charcoal dakgalbi restaurant has been tough, but I think this place earns my full recommendation.
- The owner was very kind
- I didn't realize it was corkage-free — next time I'm bringing drinks along
If you're heading to Yangju, I recommend this as a place to revisit again soon.
