It's been a while since my last restaurant review~ On this Busan trip I went hunting for a killer beef spot and ran straight over. This is the famous Gukje Market restaurant 'Yakiniku Gaek (야키니쿠 객)'! The meat here is amazing, but the atmosphere is insane too — let's get into the review~~

How to walk from Jagalchi Station to Yakiniku Gaek
Yakiniku Gaek Nampo-dong Main Branch is near Jagalchi Station! It's about a 4-minute walk from Exit 7 of Jagalchi Station. Super easy to reach by public transit!

The sign is simple — just the single character '객 (Gaek)' — but it has real weight to it, so it's easy to spot haha. Doesn't the exterior have such a mood to it~?

That signature yakiniku-restaurant weight and mood is already wafting out haha.

Walked in with high expectations~
What is the inside of Yakiniku Gaek like?
The interior of Yakiniku Gaek has such a calm, upscale mood! The simple-but-weighty feel from the sign gets even deeper inside~ In the slightly dark space, these little lights illuminate each table one by one — so classy haha.

One wall had a display of various liquor bottles! It made for gorgeous decor on its own~ A silver button stood out in the middle of it — apparently it belongs to the owner's younger sibling!? So random and cool~~

We had a reservation, so we just walked in~

The table was already set up like this exactly when we arrived.

I didn't know aged kimchi could look this pretty..!
Yakiniku Gaek menu and prices
Here's the menu~

Yakiniku Gaek serves only top-grade purebred wagyu!

So honestly I braced for the prices to be rough. But they were actually really reasonable..? Meat this good, this atmosphere, at this price..! I was genuinely shocked!!

There's a mixed-cut set to enjoy several parts at once! Each cut is also sold à la carte~ On top of that there was ox tongue, offal, and raw beef sashimi options. Besides the meat dishes, they also had nabe hot pot and rice meals, so even people who don't eat meat could join the table~
Which wagyu cuts come in the 65,000-won Gaek set for two?
We ordered the Gaek set for two (₩65,000), which lets you enjoy several cuts at once haha. The owner had the meat ready in no time~~

Ta-da~ here's how it arrived.

Insane, honestly ㅠㅠ Look at that color.. not even grilled yet and it clearly looks delicious. They said to start with galbisal and grill clockwise. Probably ordered by fattiness, I'd guess!?
Grilled each piece carefully on the front grill. Eek, can you see how it looks ㅠㅠ From galbisal to kkotsal, all five cuts had totally different charms!

Samgaksal was hands down my favorite of the bunch ㅠㅠ Savory and rich — such a treat for the mouth ㅠ The meat at Yakiniku Gaek is top-grade so it's delicious even plain~~ but they also prepared a variety of side dishes and sauces so you can enjoy it even more.

Maldon salt, house sauce and side dishes
First, Maldon salt! It seasons the meat just enough while still letting the flavor of the meat shine through — a total game changer. Instead of a store-bought sauce, they use a house sauce made with a traditional Japanese soy sauce base! This was also incredible..

The green onion kimchi, aged kimchi, bean sprouts, and shredded onion on the side all paired so well with the meat that I never got tired of it ㅠ
Is the set for two enough food for two people?
The whole plate disappeared in a flash~~ The Gaek set for two was exactly the right amount for the two of us! After finishing it off, I felt pleasantly full from all that good food haha.

Honestly, I was surprised it was even better than the yakiniku I've had in Japan... If it were just closer to home, the prices are so reasonable I'd genuinely go all the time ㅠㅠ Why isn't there a place like this near my house ㅠ Taste aside, the sleek interior and music make the vibe great too, so it'd be perfect for a get-together with friends or a date~ Such a satisfying restaurant that I think I'll come back again on my next Busan trip!!
Final verdict on Yakiniku Gaek in Nampo-dong
If you're in Busan looking for high-quality, top-grade wagyu~ looking for a place with great taste and atmosphere~~ looking for a yakiniku spot with fair prices~~ this Gukje Market gem, 'Yakiniku Gaek,' comes highly recommended from me❤️
