Gyeongju bakery's premium 6-pack with chocolate pie: Gyeongju Tokyo

I went on a trip to Gyeongju recently and stopped by a dessert shop that's great for gifts. Everyone around me heard I was going to Gyeongju and told me to bring back lots of Hwangnidan-gil snacks haha. They kept recommending all these delicious snacks supposedly in Hwangnidan-gil, so I searched around and actually found a really good spot!

It's called Gyeongju Tokyo Pie, and it's a pie with a whole apple baked inside. My family loved it, and the friends I gifted it to kept complimenting it too!

The address is 38 Poseok-ro 1095beon-gil, 1st floor, unit 106, Gyeongju-si, Gyeongsangbuk-do, South Korea. Hours are Mon, Wed, Thu, Fri 11:30–19:00 and Sat, Sun 11:30–20:00, closed every Tuesday.

Tucked inside Hwangnidan-gil, easy to stop by after a meal

Gyeongju Tokyo Pie, a well-known snack spot on Gyeongju's Hwangnidan-gil, sits a bit further inside the street. There are lots of restaurants nearby, so it's easy to grab a pie to go after a meal. That's actually how I found it — I ate nearby and was looking for something to gift, and ended up here. I saw foreign tourists buying up all kinds of snacks, and even though I'm Korean, I followed their lead haha.

Choosing a gift set: 6, 9, or premium

What I liked about Gyeongju Tokyo Pie as a Hwangnidan-gil gift is how many set options there are. When you're giving something as a gift, there's a lot to think about, from packaging to contents, right? Here you can choose 6 or 9 pieces, and there's also a premium version.

I wanted to try the basic apple pie, but I also love chocolate, so I wanted the chocolate pie too. Turns out there was a premium set with exactly that combination, so I bought it. I got one premium box for my family to eat as dessert and one premium box as a gift!

They also run a birthday event and a Naver receipt event, so it's worth using those to get a better deal. If you leave a Naver receipt photo review, they give you an Americano, and it's really good with the pie ㅠㅠ The pie is sweet, so I kept craving coffee while eating it!!

Fresh out of the oven, and why they opened the lid for us

We happened to get pies that had just come out of the oven, so they opened the lid for us like this! It meant we could enjoy crisp, un-soggy pie, which I really appreciated ㅠㅠ

Here's what's inside! There are 6 pies total, and 2 of them are chocolate flavor. And it's not just plain chocolate — it's a chocolate pie with two pieces of a fancy chocolate bar tucked inside~~

What does the chocolate Tokyo pie taste like?

I tried the chocolate (shokora) Tokyo pie first! The outside is crisp, and inside there are two solid chunks of chocolate. Honestly, when I first split it open, I worried the chocolate might be too little — chocolate lovers need a strong chocolate flavor and aroma, you know haha.

But after one bite, I was genuinely impressed, like the owner really knows what they're doing haha. The chocolate is rich and smooth, and that amount turned out to be just right. It wasn't overly sweet, and the chocolate flavor wasn't weak either. I honestly wanted to go buy more of just the chocolate Tokyo pie ㅠㅠ

Apple pie with a whole apple inside

Next up is the signature apple pie. Same as before, the outside was crisp with nice visible layers, and it was delicious. And inside, there's a whole apple! Other apple pies usually use apple syrup or jam inside, right? But here it's a whole apple, so you really get to taste the natural flavor. The apple's sweetness paired well with the pastry, and the crisp texture was really good.

My take

Gyeongju Tokyo Pie was a really great find for a Hwangnidan-gil gift in Gyeongju. You can keep it in the fridge for 2 days, or up to 7 days in the freezer, so it's easy to enjoy little by little too haha. It was honestly good enough that I want to go back to Gyeongju just for this, so if you're looking for a gift, I think it's worth a visit!
