New hanok kalguksu and bossam set for two in Ansan: Todamok

In short

Todamok is a new hanok-style restaurant on Daejaengi-gil in Seonbu-dong, Ansan, Gyeonggi, serving kalguksu (knife-cut noodle soup) and bossam (boiled pork). The 39,000 won kalguksu and bossam (small) set for two came with one chicken kalguksu, one roe-and-milt kalguksu and a plate of bossam, and every part of the set was satisfying. Main photo of the kalguksu and bossam set at Todamok in Seonbu-dong, Ansan

You know those days when all you want is kalguksu (knife-cut noodle soup)???? This time I went to Todamok in Seonbu-dong, Ansan, a place people say does kalguksu really well. I have to try every new spot!

I only went in planning to order kalguksu, but the bossam (boiled pork) set looked so good I ordered it right away 😆 In weather like this, a bowl of hot broth is really all you need haha, and it seemed perfect for a family meal or for taking your parents out!

Parking and the hanok-style exterior at Todamok

The approach to Todamok and the surrounding area

There's parking near the restaurant so it wasn't hard to find! Just search Todamok or 17 Daejaengi-gil in your navigation and you can find it easily — road access around the area is good too, so it was a comfortable visit haha (though I've driven past this road a hundred times and never noticed it, ugh).

There were waiting seats out front~

The exterior has a clean hanok (traditional Korean house) feel that really caught my eye!

📖 Menu We ordered the kalguksu + bossam (small) set for two (₩39,000)!

  • Chicken kalguksu
  • Roe-and-milt kalguksu
  • Bossam (small)

I liked that you could pick the kalguksu flavor to your taste.

And what I personally loved was that this isn't a place where only the kalguksu is good. Usually with set menus only the main dish is great and the rest is just okay, but at Todamok everything — from the bossam to the last drop of kalguksu broth — was satisfying!

Inside Todamok and the side dishes

Todamok has aprons ready too, so a must for anyone eating the roe-and-milt kalguksu!

The side dishes were mu-saengchae (spicy radish salad) and kimchi!

How the roe-and-milt kalguksu tasted

🦑 Roe-and-milt kalguksu Honestly, this one was really my type…😍 It's loaded generously with roe and milt, so the broth is super clean-tasting and spicy-hot. There's zero fishy taste, just a sharp, deep umami flavor — I think it'd make a great hangover cure for anyone who likes to drink haha!! (that would be me lol).

How the chicken kalguksu tasted

🐔 Chicken kalguksu The broth was really rich and clean-tasting! The chicken stock was deeply drawn out but not overpowering, so my spoon kept going back for more. The noodles were chewy too and paired really well with the broth — I enjoyed every last bite~~~

Was the small bossam worth it?

🥩 Bossam (small) The bossam also exceeded expectations. The meat was moist with absolutely no off smell, so it was good even plain, and even better with saeu-jeot (salted shrimp). Paired with the kalguksu, the combo was truly the best. Kalguksu alone might leave you a bit wanting, but with the bossam too, the meal felt really hearty.

A proper, well-loaded wrap haha!

Since it's a new building that hasn't been open long, even the restroom is spotlessly clean!

The rabbit and guinea pigs in front of Todamok

Best of all, there's a rabbit and guinea pigs in front of the restaurant, so you feel good before you even step inside 🐰🐹 Kids would love them, and it's fun to watch them for a bit — I can see why so many families come here!

Final verdict on Todamok in Ansan

👍 If you're looking for a good kalguksu restaurant in Seonbu-dong, Ansan, I can confidently recommend Todamok haha. The chicken kalguksu had a clean, rich broth I really liked, and the roe-and-milt kalguksu's spicy, clean-tasting broth was really memorable~~~

On top of that, the moist bossam rounds out the set nicely, and the portions were generous! The restaurant is spacious and clean too, so it's great for a family meal or taking your parents out, and you can watch the rabbit and guinea pigs before eating, which makes it a great spot to visit with kids. I'd like to come back next time to try the other kalguksu options too. 😊
