Daegu brunch café near Sinsegae for season salad and decaf latte: Baut

Where is Baut in Daegu?

Baut is a three-story standalone brunch café on Dongbu-ro 26-gil in Dong-gu, Daegu. I went on a weekend date to Sinsegae Department Store and heard there was a nice-vibe café nearby, so I stopped by — it was only about a 6-7 minute walk from Sinsegae.

This is the entrance in front of the store! It's a standalone three-story building — the whole thing is the Baut café building.

Is there parking at Baut?

Baut also has a ground-level parking lot right next to the store~~~ and it's quite large, which is great. Most of the good restaurants near Dongdaegu Station have no parking ㅠㅠ so it's a bit annoying, but Baut has parking too.

Inside Baut: three floors and how to order

The interior has a clean, modern feel, and each floor has big windows here and there, which made the atmosphere even better~~~!! You order on the 1st floor and then go up. There are three floors in total — 1st, 2nd and 3rd.

Everyone seemed to order coffee together with a brunch item~ so I did the same and got a sandwich, salad and coffee!!!! It seems like a good spot to visit when you want a light brunch or a relaxed meal while chatting with a friend. There were so many customers, it feels like a café that's already word-of-mouth famous?!

These days when I go to a café, I'm looking less for just a cup of coffee and more for a place where I can also enjoy good food. This time at Baut, I tried a range of things — drinks, salad and sandwich. Even outside of actual brunch hours, the menu lineup is good, so it was a nice spot to visit for a light meal :)

Season salad with ricotta, ham and nuts

Baut's season salad had seasonal fruit along with arugula, romaine and radicchio, giving it a variety of vegetable textures and aromas. Ricotta cheese and ham were added on top, bringing both a light, mild taste and a salty savoriness.

Walnuts and almonds were mixed in too, adding a nutty, crunchy texture. It wasn't the kind of salad that's just light vegetables — with cheese, ham and nuts packed in, it was surprisingly filling. The refreshing, clean dressing matched the ingredients well too, making it all come together nicely!

Focaccia sandwich

Baut's focaccia sandwich has tomato pesto, red onion, salami, cheese and arugula between soft yet chewy focaccia bread. The flavor of the tomato pesto, the saltiness of the salami and cheese, and the fragrance of the arugula came together for a pretty rich taste.

The focaccia itself was especially tasty and paired well with the sandwich fillings — enough to count as a full meal on its own. Ordering it together with the salad, eating the vegetables and sandwich together, was an even better combo~~~~

Lime ade

The lime ade's refreshing taste was the charm! Thanks to lime's distinctly tangy, cooling flavor, it paired well with rich menu items like the salad or sandwich. It especially had that cleansing feel in your mouth. It wasn't too sweet, which I liked even more. The lime aroma was great and left my mouth really tangy and clean.

Decaf iced caffe latte

I love coffee but caffeine can be a lot, so I often go for decaf — Baut's decaf caffe latte, made as a latte, had a nicely soft, nutty flavor. The milk's smooth character and the coffee aroma blended naturally, making it good to drink alongside food too.

A latte with low acidity and a nutty taste — totally my style! If you like a nutty latte, I'd definitely recommend it! (so nutty) Next time I visit, I'd like to try some of the other seasonal menu items too :)
