My husband and I had just finished a late evening workout, and going straight home felt like a waste of the night. Cool coffee, a good dessert, and especially a waffle — crisp outside, chewy inside, no sogginess — suddenly sounded perfect!

A late-evening moment craving coffee and a waffle

After some searching, we ended up at Hands Coffee Dongchon Resort Branch, known among the Dongchon Resort cafés for its night view and desserts.

We arrived around 9pm on a Friday. Luckily there was no wait, and we parked easily thanks to the café's own spacious lot out front.

Cafés near Gyeongsan tend to close by 9 or 10pm, so options for a late evening are pretty limited. But this place stays open until 11pm, making it perfect to stop by even right after a late workout. Reviews kept saying "the desserts are great, but it's really a waffle spot," so I decided without hesitation.

I'd called ahead since I really wanted a waffle, and was told to arrive by 10pm if I wanted to order one.

What's on the menu at Hands Coffee Dongchon Resort Branch?

The drink menu is pretty varied too — hand-drip coffee, espresso, Dutch coffee and more, true to Hands Coffee's long reputation among coffee lovers for specialty coffee and hand-drip brewing.

There's also a good range of teas and juices — fresh fruit juice, strawberry latte, milk tea, and lattes (chocolate, green tea, sweet potato).

But today our target was the waffles. There were 5 kinds — blueberry cream cheese waffle, Haagen-Dazs ice cream waffle, choco banana waffle, and more. Plenty of cakes too — Basque cheesecake, lemon pound cake, milk cream roll, Teddy chocolate cake. My husband is a cheesecake lover, so he ordered the Basque cheesecake with a decaf pour-over first.

I went with the Haagen-Dazs ice cream waffle, which let you pick 2 flavors out of vanilla/strawberry/chocolate/green tea. My ice-cream-loving husband chose vanilla and strawberry.

There's also a Hands brunch set, which seems to pair brunch with a long black.

Second, third or fourth floor — where should you sit?

The floor-to-ceiling windows we saw from outside Hands Coffee Dongchon Resort Branch looked so pretty that, as soon as we ordered, we were pulled into a floor-by-floor tour from 2F to 4F.

Hands Coffee Dongchon Resort Branch might be the best large café I've been to in Daegu — each floor has its own charm. 2F has the ordering counter and fewer seats compared to 3F and 4F. 3F feels like the quietest spot for actually sitting and enjoying coffee (it has the most seats), while 4F is best for the view (plus floor seating). Being able to take the elevator up also made carrying our order much easier — a real plus.

With upscale interiors, pricey speakers, and stylishly displayed coffee bean decorations, we had a lot of fun exploring while waiting the roughly 15 minutes for our order.

Night view of the Geumho River from the 4th floor

Honestly, the 4th floor left the biggest impression on me. It has a wide-open view looking straight down over the Geumho River, and the atmosphere at night was just gorgeous.

There's also an outdoor terrace, perfect for stepping out into the cool night air after the rain and taking in the night view.

How the Haagen-Dazs ice cream waffle and Basque cheesecake tasted

Waffle, coffee, and cheesecake on the table

About 15 minutes later, the buzzer went off and here's what we brought back — the Haagen-Dazs ice cream waffle, decaf pour-over, and Basque cheesecake!

Haagen-Dazs ice cream waffle with toppings served separately

It's a glutinous rice waffle piled with two flavors of Haagen-Dazs ice cream (strawberry + vanilla) and plenty of house whipped cream. The whipped cream and both ice cream flavors were served separately.

The Haagen-Dazs ice cream waffle, which I was most excited for, was fully satisfying from the first bite. The freshly baked, warm glutinous rice waffle was thin and crisp outside, chewy and dense inside. There wasn't a hint of sogginess — my husband and I both agreed right away that this is truly a waffle spot.

The generous chunks of tangy strawberry ice cream, smooth vanilla ice cream, and sweet house whipped cream on top made an excellent combination. Even though I was already full, I finished every last bite.

Moist Basque cheesecake served with hand-drip coffee

The Basque cheesecake we ordered alongside was just as charming as the waffle. The inside was truly moist like custard cream or pudding, yet dense and rich at the same time. The savory, slightly salty flavor of rich cream cheese lingered in the mouth, pairing perfectly with the fragrant coffee — haha!

How Hands Coffee Dongchon Resort Branch compares to similar Daegu cafés

Regular cafés near Dongchon Resort often have cramped parking that means circling the alleys, or they close early around 9-10pm, which can be disappointing. Hands Coffee Dongchon Resort Branch, by contrast, has its own large dedicated parking lot with zero parking stress, and staying open until 11pm was a big differentiator.

Unlike typical bakery-bread-focused cafés, the toppings here are served separately so the glutinous rice waffle stays crisp to the last bite, alongside specialty hand-drip coffee — a clear draw.

Who Hands Coffee Dongchon Resort Branch is for, and the verdict

I'd recommend this to anyone looking for a large Daegu café with spacious parking and a comfortable setting — a true view-café among the Dongchon Resort options. The exterior seen through the floor-to-ceiling windows is beautiful, and staying open until 11pm makes it an ideal late-night date spot!
