Weekend lunch mul-makguksu with parents: Bongpyeong Gohyang Makguksu
In short
Bongpyeong Gohyang Makguksu is a house-noodle makguksu (buckwheat noodle) restaurant on Hoguk-ro in Deogyang-gu, Goyang, Gyeonggi. Visiting for weekend lunch with parents, the mul-makguksu broth was mild yet savory with a tangy edge, and the house-made noodles were noticeably nuttier and chewier than usual. With even the yeolmu kimchi (young radish kimchi) made in-house, this is a strong recommendation whenever you're craving makguksu in Goyang.

Picking a weekend lunch spot, I suddenly craved nutty buckwheat makguksu, so I went with my mom and dad to Bongpyeong Gohyang Makguksu, a well-known spot in Wondang, Goyang!! The house-made noodles in their makguksu and perilla buckwheat kalguksu were so good — let me introduce this Wondang favorite.

There's plenty of parking in front of and behind the restaurant~~

The interior and group seating
The interior is spacious and clean!! There's also group seating for larger parties~ It's famous as a Wondang makguksu spot, so even though I avoided lunch rush and went a bit late, there were still plenty of diners!! haha

The menu lineup
The menu has mul-makguksu, bibim-makguksu, suyuk, buckwheat pancake, dumplings, plus on-makguksu and perilla buckwheat kalguksu!! Bongpyeong Gohyang Makguksu uses house-made noodles, and they said all dishes and kimchi are made from scratch with domestic ingredients~~haha So healthy!! haha

They also serve warm buckwheat tea~~ Great to have before or after the meal~~

The default side: house-made yeolmu kimchi
The default side dish is yeolmu kimchi!! Maybe because it's homemade, it was genuinely crisp, refreshing, and delicious~ A perfect match with the makguksu and kalguksu~ There's also radish kimchi at the self-serve bar~~ You can help yourself to extra sides there~~

Dad's pick: bibim-makguksu
My dad went with bibim-makguksu!! They gave us broth on the side and topped it generously with sesame seeds~~ The extra-large size is only +₩1,000 more but the portion was huge~~

How was the mul-makguksu broth?
I went with mul-makguksu!! The broth was slightly mild yet full of savory depth — so delicious!! There was a hint of tanginess too, and it was so refreshing. Exactly what you'd crave on a hot day~~ Honestly the best makguksu I've had in a while~ haha

Great visuals and a wholesome feel overall!! Clean yet full of umami~~ Strongly recommend it as a Goyang makguksu spot~~
Mixing up the bibim-makguksu~ The sauce was slightly tangy and so tasty!! Loaded with sesame seeds for a nutty flavor, and above all, the noodles were genuinely chewy and nutty — so good~~ A flavor everyone, young or old, would love~~

What makes the house-made noodles different?
Unlike typical makguksu places, Bongpyeong Gohyang Makguksu makes their own noodles, and you can really tell the difference!! Much nuttier, chewier, and tastier. The texture was fantastic too!! The broth was so good I finished the whole bowl in no time~~

Mom's rave review: perilla buckwheat kalguksu
Mom chose the perilla buckwheat kalguksu~~ It's genuinely a specialty dish!! Definitely a menu item I'd strongly recommend~~

The nutty, savory perilla broth was so delicious, and the kalguksu noodles being buckwheat made it even better! Mom raved about how good it was!! It comes with both noodles and ongsimi (small round dumplings), and the ongsimi's chewy texture was fantastic too~~ The nutty buckwheat broth is truly addictive~~ A warm and wholesome bowl of perilla buckwheat kalguksu!!

Wrap-up
Bongpyeong Gohyang Makguksu in Wondang is a genuine standout, selected as a recommended dining spot for Goyang tourism~~haha From the house-made noodles to the homemade kimchi, everything from the menu to the sides was excellent~~ If you're looking for a makguksu restaurant in Goyang, I strongly recommend Bongpyeong Gohyang Makguksu!!haha
