Weekday dinner with kids at all-you-can-eat soy crab: Deodeo

In short

Deodeo Ganjanggejang Muhalliripil is an all-you-can-eat soy crab (ganjanggejang) and spicy marinated crab (yangnyeomgejang) restaurant in Wondang, Goyang, Gyeonggi. A family of four, including sixth-grade twins, visited on a weekday around 6pm, ordered the four-person all-you-can-eat set, started with four soy crabs and kept refilling, and finished six bowls of rice alongside steamed egg, seaweed, flying fish roe, and a bean sprout crab stew with ramyeon noodles. The seasoning is mild rather than salty, so the crab itself stays enjoyable longer and refill requests never feel awkward.

Today I'm sharing a revisit review of Deodeo Ganjanggejang Muhalliripil, a soy crab spot in Ilsan I've already posted about before. What does it feel like to visit your own regular haunt as part of a sponsored campaign? Haha.

We visited on a weekday, around 6pm, and our party was a family of four including two elementary schoolers, so hopefully this helps with planning your own visit~

How was parking on a weekday evening?

That day, the big open parking area wasn't usable. There used to be no trees in that lot, but now there were trees planted in what looked like the parking line spots, so I figured they were redoing the lot.

This is a place where parking is fine even on days with long waits, so even with the main lot blocked off on this weekday evening, parking was still comfortable~

I wondered if the rabbits that used to guard Deodeo Ganjanggejang's parking lot had moved elsewhere, but one of them came out to greet us haha.

Family of four with sixth-grade twins, ordering the four-person all-you-can-eat

Here's the menu at Deodeo Ganjanggejang, an Ilsan soy crab favorite. Our sixth-grade twin boys can each eat more than one portion now, so of course we ordered the all-you-can-eat set for four haha.

While I was briefly reading the instructions on how to pick crab meat properly,

true to a restaurant known for fast, friendly service, the food came out right away. The marinated crab arrived first and got our appetites going haha.

Enter the main event, the soy crab~~ Since it was a four-person order, they brought four crabs first. They come already cut up, no extra prep needed, easy to just pick up and eat one by one.

What comes with the set

Steamed egg is included. Since the marinated crab is a bit spicy, it pairs really well with the steamed egg.

Seaweed and flying fish roe also come out, and the set includes crab stew with ramyeon noodles too.

Do you have to feel awkward asking for refills?

Once you start eating crab, it's hard to keep holding a heavy camera and lens for photos, so I tried to capture the nice color of the crab as much as possible before diving in haha.

Once you finish, if you ask for a refill, they bring two more crabs at a time. We were eating so well that they actually asked us, 'Want more?' You never need to feel awkward asking for soy or marinated sauce refills either. The staff are so friendly and even clear out the shell bowls first so you can eat comfortably.

Mild seasoning means less rice, in a good way

Still snapping photos diligently. Good food deserves to be documented haha.

This is the soy crab at Deodeo Ganjanggejang. My last visit was about a month ago, in the middle of summer, and personally this time the meat felt even more packed in than back then.

Deodeo Ganjanggejang isn't heavily seasoned. That actually lets you taste the freshness more. Both this time and during my midsummer visit, I ate comfortably and my sensitive digestive system reacted fine afterward too.

Also, since it isn't too salty, even though crab is famous for making you eat tons of rice, you don't overdo it, which actually lets you enjoy the crab itself more haha.

In fact, I lost 15kg and have kept it off for 5 years on a low-carb, high-fat diet, so even when I indulge like this, I only eat half a bowl of rice. Deodeo Ganjanggejang's seasoning suits my taste perfectly since it lets me avoid overeating rice. With ramyeon on the table too, I stuck to half a bowl again this time, mission accomplished haha.

The elementary schoolers' favorite way to eat it

The marinated crab is also a treat. While the soy crab keeps things mild, the marinated crab adds a slight spicy kick that makes the meal more fun. My elementary schoolers wrap it in seaweed, mix in flying fish roe, all sorts of ways, but mostly stick to the soy crab.

Among all that, my kids' favorite way to eat it is squeezing out a fistful of the packed crab meat with one hand and mixing it into rice. I'm cutting way back on carbs, but the kids easily go through two bowls each haha. With me picking out extra soy crab meat for them, they eat even better~

Finishing with bean sprout crab stew and ramyeon noodles

This is the bean sprout crab stew included in the Deodeo Ganjanggejang all-you-can-eat set. It's not so strongly flavored that it overwhelms the taste of the main soy crab. It's great for warming up your stomach with the ramyeon noodles.

We usually keep the burner low while enjoying the crab, then once we're fairly full, we turn up the heat and drop in the ramyeon noodles to finish the meal.

Posting the receipt again for reference on pricing. This was taken when we'd ordered 5 bowls of rice, and the kids ended up having one more, bringing us to 6 bowls total.

Once again, a satisfying meal at Deodeo Ganjanggejang Muhalliripil, an Ilsan soy crab favorite. For our family, it's the kind of place that makes you think 'when can we come back?' the moment you walk out the door haha.
