Bora-dong, Yongin kalguksu 1 minute from the bus stop: Yubok Kalguksu

In short

Yubok Kalguksu Yongin Korean Folk Village Branch is a pufferfish-broth kalguksu (knife-cut noodle soup) restaurant in Bora-dong, Giheung-gu, Yongin, near the Korean Folk Village. On a weekend visit with her mother, the writer ordered the pufferfish kalguksu set for two, mixed jjukkumi (spicy baby octopus) into barley rice, and finished the clear broth full of mideodeok (sea squirt) and clams. Yubok Kalguksu sits a one-minute walk from the Giheung Nonghyup bus stop, and the hall is wide enough that it never felt crowded even with a large group dining at the same time.

Inside the restaurant: atmosphere and seating

This is the exterior of Yubok Kalguksu! Super clean, right? hahaha

The wide-open entrance of Yubok Kalguksu

The entrance felt wide open from the moment you walk in, so it didn't feel stuffy at all!

There was plenty of seating inside! Looked great for groups too :) In fact, on the day I went there was already a group reservation happening lol. If I'd arrived even a little later I might not have gotten a seat....

There was also a self-serve bar where you could grab extra side dishes!

What comes with the pufferfish kalguksu set for two?

There was a menu board at the restaurant, but to show you more clearly I pulled the menu from Naver!

Ordered: pufferfish kalguksu set for two → The set comes with jjukkumi (spicy octopus) and barley rice set up for mixing!

Pot of simmering kalguksu with the hourglass timer

The 3–4 minute hourglass rule for the noodles

Once the kalguksu comes out, you flip the hourglass and wait about 3–4 minutes! This waiting is so hard.... I waited about 3 minutes, and it felt like it kept simmering for maybe 2 more minutes on top of that!!

How the jjukkumi barley rice and pufferfish broth taste

Since I ordered the set, jjukkumi + barley rice came as extras! The barley rice portion was bigger than I expected lol. And the jjukkumi pieces were big and spicy, so it was really tasty haha.

Spicy jjukkumi mixed with barley rice

The kalguksu is made with pufferfish broth so it was so refreshing! Even after finishing a whole bowl of jjukkumi and rice, there was still room for the kalguksu...haha

The kalguksu broth had mideodeok (sea pineapple), green onion, and clams in it! There was more mideodeok than I expected? But you know mideodeok is super hot right when it's cooked, so you have to let it cool before eating, right? hahaha The noodles seemed machine-cut, and the broth was so delicious!!!

The kalguksu broth is seriously the best!!!

There was also a sign explaining the pufferfish broth, so I took a photo! I'd recommend giving it a read sometime haha (I didn't read it....lol)

Dessert corner and final verdict on Yubok Kalguksu

For dessert, there were puffed rice snacks on display! A dessert loved by both kids and adults haha. My mom and I were too full so we skipped it haha.

At other restaurants, even with a coffee machine, the entrance/exit is often narrow and uncomfortable :( But at Yubok Kalguksu the entrance/exit is wide so it never felt crowded!

The owner and staff were kind too, and like I kept saying, the place is spacious so it never felt cramped! Next time I want to try the jjukkumi seafood chive pancake. If you're coming out to the Korean Folk Village, I'd recommend having Yubok Kalguksu for dinner! Perfect for this kind of weather!!! haha
