Weekday-opening tonkatsu in Jeonpo, Busan: YBD sang loin katsu at Hets

In short

Hets Jeonpo Branch is a tonkatsu restaurant in Jeonpo-dong, Busanjin, Busan that uses Jeju black pork and YBD meat. Arriving right at the weekday opening time with a friend, the writer ordered the YBD sang loin katsu at 16,000 won with oolong tea, adding truffle oil and corn salad dressing on the side. The springy pork and thin, crisp coating stayed clean right to the last bite.

A full spread of the YBD sang loin katsu at Hets Jeonpo Branch

A weekday off, meeting up with Y after a long while, and our feet naturally headed toward Jeonpo-dong~~^^ It had been a while since we last had tonkatsu, so we went to Hets, famous as a Jeonpo tonkatsu spot~ This place, where the soft, chewy texture from premium meat was pure art, review go~*^^*

  • Hours: 11:10–20:30 (break time 15:30–17:00)
  • Parking: 1,000 won supported when parking at the public lot near Jeonpo Station (show parking pass)

Where is Hets Jeonpo Branch, and how are parking and the wait?

Exterior of Hets Jeonpo Branch near Jeonpo Station

Hets Jeonpo Branch, a Jeonpo tonkatsu spot, sits a 3-minute walk from Exit 7 of Jeonpo Station on Busan Subway Line 2. There's no dedicated parking lot, but using the public parking lot near Jeonpo Station and showing your parking pass gets you 1,000 won off. We visited right at weekday opening time so it was fairly relaxed, but on weekend peak hours it's a wait-heavy spot, so you need to reserve on the CatchTable right in front of the restaurant and wait.

Inside Hets Jeonpo Branch: all bar seating in a modern gray interior

Entrance with coat-hanging space

There's a waiting area right at the entrance, so you can wait indoors in the cool even on hot days~^^ There's plenty of coat-hanging space at both the front and back, and even though it's all bar-table seating I thought there'd be none, they even had a baby chair ready.

Interior with all bar-table seating in unified gray tones

The whole place is unified in gray tones, giving it a modern, clean feel! With every seat being a bar table, it's an atmosphere optimized for solo dining too.

Open kitchen at Hets Jeonpo Branch with visible cooking process

It's a fully open kitchen, so you can watch the entire cooking process from start to finish, which makes Hets Jeonpo Branch, this Jeonpo tonkatsu spot, feel even more reassuring hygiene-wise.

A cup of house tea served at each seat
Sauce containers with whole pepper, salad sauce, truffle oil and wasabi

It's so nice that instead of plain water they serve tea. My friend and I kept saying, what kind of tea is this, why is it so good, and we were won over before the main dish even arrived haha. Each seat has its sauce containers neatly lined up: whole peppercorns, salad sauce, truffle oil, even wasabi. This is the first tonkatsu place I've seen with such a wide variety prepared~~~~!

What is on the Hets Jeonpo Branch menu?

Menu board listing Jeju black pork and YBD meat dishes

The main menu is tonkatsu made with Jeju black pork and YBD meat. Besides tonkatsu, there are also acidic drinks, karaage, meat curry and other side dishes on offer. Turning my eyes to the drinks... my gaze stopped on the Kirin one-sip draft beer. 130ml for 2,500 won, wow — I agonized over whether to get it, but ended up ordering oolong tea instead lol.

YBD sang loin katsu, 16,000 won: springy texture and deep flavor

Oolong tea bottle served with a glass of ice

My friend ordered a carbonated drink, I ordered oolong tea. They served the whole PET bottle along with a glass of ice, which makes it convenient to carry any leftover away with you^^

The YBD sang loin katsu I ordered, 16,000 won. Rice, soup and salad come included as the basic set.

YBD sang loin katsu with a vivid red cross-section

YBD meat, which makes up only about 0.3% of domestic pork production! It's said to be premium meat crossbreeding three breeds — Yorkshire (Y), Berkshire (B), and Duroc (D) — to gather the strengths of each breed. Even at a glance it's a clearer, redder color than typical tonkatsu meat, which makes it look more appetizing~

A piece of tonkatsu with thin batter

Wait wait, what is this chewy-chewy texture?! Soft yet chewy, with a fat distribution just right to give rich juiciness and a savory flavor that's absolutely amazing haha. The batter is on the thin side but fried very crisply, so there's almost no greasiness, and it stays very clean all the way to the last bite.

Tonkatsu drizzled with truffle oil
Cross-section of sang loin katsu topped with truffle oil

Sprinkle on a few drops of truffle oil and it becomes even more upgraded, a deep and complex flavor. In a word, a luxurious taste haha.

The corn salad dressing is a charm of its own

Cabbage salad drizzled with corn salad sauce

Tonkatsu is tonkatsu, but another charm of Hets, this Jeonpo tonkatsu spot, is this salad! It's not the usual generic sauce you eat every day at tonkatsu restaurants — the corn salad sauce felt fresh and new. The corn's distinctive savory flavor pairs really well with the cabbage^^

A convenient location close to Jeonpo subway station, friendly staff, a clean restaurant, and above all, the luxurious flavor of the tonkatsu lingering in your mouth long after — Hets, a Busan Jeonpo tonkatsu spot! I ate really, really well.*^^*
