Ansan Korean BBQ pork ribs cooked over charcoal for family dinner
In short
Yangsimso Ansan Gojan Branch is a charcoal Korean BBQ restaurant on Danggok-ro near Ansan City Hall in Gyeonggi. For a weekend family dinner, the writer ordered a plate of house-marinated pork galbi (750g) with rice and a complimentary doenjang jjigae, finding the charcoal smokiness subtle and the marinade not overly sweet, pairing well with lettuce wraps. With a private group room and generously spaced tables, it's an easy pick for a family outing.

Hi everyone, it's Jjongjjong haha. This past weekend I went for a family dinner in Jungang-dong after a while — proper meat time! I tried the house-marinated pork galbi (marinated pork ribs) plate at Yangsimso, and overall it was a pretty satisfying meal haha. Let me share my review~

The storefront and interior vibe

Yangsimso is located near Ansan City Hall. Since it's on the ground floor, it wasn't hard to find, and the signage was clean and tidy from the get-go, which I liked haha.

There was a standing signboard at the entrance so I got to peek at the menu before going in lol. The lunch special menu looked like great value!

The interior was spacious and clean. The table spacing was seriously wide — no need to worry about the next table hearing your conversation.

There's also a private group room, so it looked good for group gatherings, family outings, or all sorts of meetups.

There's a self-serve corner too, so you can grab extra side dishes freely haha. Disposable aprons were also available — I went in bright-colored clothes so that came in handy lol.

And on the way out, there was even dessert coffee! Perfect haha.
What's the menu like

The menu was really varied — beef, pork, lunch menu, sides, drinks, and more. The lunch menu definitely looked like great value at midday haha.
Ordering the house-marinated pork galbi plate (750g)
Our order was: house-marinated pork galbi plate / rice x3.

After ordering, they set out the basic side dishes — and it felt like they picked exactly the ones that go well with meat haha. Various sauces, scallion salad, onion soy sauce, sallad (Korean-style coleslaw), yeolmu kimchi (young radish kimchi), baek kimchi (white kimchi) — all side dishes that pair nicely with meat.

Ta-da! The house-marinated pork galbi plate (750g) arrived.

They set up the charcoal grill too haha. The grill doesn't have an open/close function, so I'd recommend grilling as quickly as possible! The charcoal died down faster than expected, sigh.

Grilling time... Since it's marinated, it burns more easily than plain meat, so I flipped it often and paid close attention.

How the complimentary doenjang jjigae tasted
The complimentary doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew) arrived, and the pot was pretty big haha.

It had plenty of vegetables and even meat in it, so the broth definitely had a rich, deep meaty flavor.

The savory doenjang flavor combined with the umami from the meat made the broth pretty rich and hearty(?).

Eating it with rice was heaven-tier deliciousness... lol (I do tend to be a big doenjang jjigae fan though).
First bite of the charcoal-grilled marinated ribs

Taking a bite of the well-grilled meat, I first tasted the sweet and salty marinade, followed by that subtle charcoal smokiness rising up!

As always, I think meat tastes best wrapped in lettuce haha. Eating the meat plain, the sweet and savory flavors were front and center, but wrapped with the fresh greens, it tasted much fresher and lighter~
Overall verdict
A Jungang-dong meat restaurant with sweet charcoal-smoked marinated ribs, clean side dishes, and doenjang jjigae — a satisfying family dinner!
Because it's grilled directly over charcoal, the meat gets that subtle smokiness that makes it tastier than a typical marinated galbi~ Marinated ribs burn easily lol, so with frequent flipping it came out nicely browned on the outside and tender inside, with a sweet, salty marinade plus the meat's own savory flavor. The marinade wasn't overly intensely sweet, so it also went down easy with the lettuce wraps and scallion salad.
The restaurant was clean with a spacious interior, and with the group seating available, it seemed good for family dinners or visits with several people. Having disposable aprons ready was a small but convenient touch haha. If you want a comfortable, delicious meat outing with your family like I did, I'd recommend Yangsimso!
