Sanbon pork cutlet restaurant with green citron soba: Onjeong

In short

Onjeong Gyeongyangsikdang Sanbon Academy District Branch is a new Western-style (gyeongyangsik) pork cutlet restaurant in the middle of the academy district in Sanbon, Gunpo. The gyeongyangsik pork cutlet with soba and the spicy pork cutlet with udon brought thinly sliced cutlets soaked in demi-glace sauce, a tangy green citron soba, and full-size noodles rather than mini ones, plus soup and morning bread for a generous spread. Onjeong Gyeongyangsikdang is an easy pick in Sanbon whenever an old-school pork cutlet craving hits.

These days there are so many Japanese-style tonkatsu places with thick-cut pork, but sometimes you just crave that old-school gyeongyangsik (Western-style) pork cutlet — thin-cut, soaked in demi-glace sauce. Places specializing in gyeongyangsik cutlet are hard to find, which always bummed me out, but one just opened in Sanbon!! Yay yay

As a 2n-year resident of Sanbon, I have to check out every new restaurant that opens... so I went and tried it myself. This is Onjeong Gyeongyangsikdang Sanbon Academy District Branch, located in Sanbon's academy district.

Where is Onjeong Gyeongyangsikdang in Sanbon, and when is it open?

Onjeong Gyeongyangsikdang Sanbon Academy District Branch sits right in the heart of the academy district, so it wasn't hard to find at all. There's a school right in front, so it's especially popular with students haha

Maybe because it's newly opened, the interior was super clean. Onjeong Gyeongyangsikdang Sanbon Academy District Branch, a well-known spot in Sanbon, apparently simmers its sauce fresh in-house every day. They also age chilled Dodram Korean pork loin using their own recipe for over 12 hours! I was so excited

Onjeong Gyeongyangsikdang menu and what we ordered

The menu had a variety of options including gyeongyangsik pork cutlet, spicy pork cutlet, cheddar cheese pork cutlet, and curry pork cutlet, plus udon and soba, so there was something for every taste. We ordered the gyeongyangsik pork cutlet + soba and the spicy pork cutlet + udon!

Not long after ordering, everything came out at once! A full tray spread arrived, neatly arranged. Being in an academy district, the portions were huge — which actually felt like great value for money. The table legs were practically buckling under the load...

Here's the spicy pork cutlet + udon and the gyeongyangsik pork cutlet + soba. I honestly expected mini-sized udon and mini soba, but I was surprised when full-size bowls arrived... They even had generous toppings piled on, making them really filling. The pork cutlet smelled so good I almost dug in without taking photos first

How do the gyeongyangsik and spicy pork cutlets taste?

Onjeong Gyeongyangsikdang's gyeongyangsik pork cutlet comes crisply fried with demi-glace sauce soaked in moist and tender. It's served with the classic set: rice, cabbage salad, corn, and morning bread.

Ah, the feeling of cutting into that gyeongyangsik cutlet. The sauce was soaked in so moist and looked incredibly appetizing. That's a proper gyeongyangsik cutlet sauce, right? Haha this is exactly the sauce flavor we all picture! This kind of cutlet really suits my taste.

Looking at the spicy pork cutlet, I thought it might be a sweet chili sauce, but it turned out to have more of a sharp, spicy kick than expected. Folks who can't handle spice might find it quite hot. The meat was also pretty thick, making it very filling. Since they use Dodram Korean pork, there wasn't a hint of gaminess — it was tender and clean-tasting.

There was even soup, giving it that proper gyeongyangsik feel~ Warm and smooth, it paired really well with the cutlet.

Udon and green citron soba: the set noodles are full size, not mini

The set udon at Onjeong Gyeongyangsikdang Sanbon Academy District Branch comes piled with fried tofu skin and fish cake. It wasn't just a token side dish — it was a genuinely well-made menu item. The udon noodles had a nice chewy bite, and the broth was rich and really solid.

Green citron soba was my personal favorite! The broth was clean yet full of umami, and the soft buckwheat noodles were excellent. Maybe because of the green citron, there was also a subtle, refreshing tang running through it — right up my alley.

Pork cutlet near Sanbon Station for solo meals and takeout

They even served morning bread with strawberry jam, so we wrapped things up nicely with a little dessert too haha. The main dish, the pork cutlet, was excellent quality, the portions were generous, and the flavor was great — it felt good to discover a new favorite spot.

Since it's right in the heart of the academy district near the school, a lot of students seem to visit~ The generous portions would be especially satisfying for them. The owner was also very kind, and above all, the food tasted great with high quality — an all-around satisfying restaurant. Takeout is available too, so if you live nearby, keep this in mind! Highly recommend Onjeong Gyeongyangsikdang Sanbon Academy District Branch, a must-visit near Sanbon Station in Gunpo.
