Solo dining Peking duck at Time Villas Suwon: Mirim Yangjang

In short

Mirim Yangjang Time Villas Suwon Branch is a Chinese restaurant on the dining avenue on the 3rd floor of Time Villas, connected directly to Suwon Station. Dining solo just before the weekday lunch rush, the writer ordered half a Peking duck and watched the live carving performance at the open kitchen before rolling the duck into wheat pancakes with cucumber, scallion, and a special sauce for a rich, savory bite. Eating alone meant no soup dish to cut the greasiness by the end, which was the one downside.

You know those days when you're suddenly, insanely craving the Peking duck you once had in China? I couldn't resist, so I ran off to Time Villas in Suwon to do some shopping and, of course, get properly greased up while I was at it. Today I'm bringing you my honest solo-dining review of the Peking duck at Mirim Yangjang Suwon Time Villas — I went in with ambition!!

It's on the Dining Avenue on the 3rd floor of Time Villas, connected to Suwon Station, so accessibility is really great.

Even the storefront gives off a high-end Chinese restaurant feel — I was already excited before I stepped inside.

It's normally a place with a waiting line, but since I came a little earlier than the weekday meal rush, I was able to get a seat without any pressure, even solo.

Solo table setting at Mirim Yangjang

Looking around, a lot of people were having regular Chinese dishes like jjamppong (spicy seafood noodle soup) or jjajangmyeon (black bean noodles). But since I was solo and couldn't eat a ton, and I had come purely for the Peking duck, I ordered the half Peking duck without a second thought.

There were more tables inside than I expected, so it looks like it can seat a good number of people.

What I ordered: half Peking duck

Not long after ordering, the chef started carving the duck meat carefully at the open kitchen.

Watching the golden-brown, beautifully roasted duck skin being sliced thin and precise was pure art. Watching the live carving performance unfold right in front of me, I found myself entranced, phone out, filming without realizing it.

The freshly carved, still-warm meat glistened, and my mouth was already watering before I'd taken a single bite. With the visual treat added on top, the wait wasn't boring at all — if anything, my anticipation exploded.

Finally, the neatly plated duck meat arrived along with warm wheat pancakes, cucumber strips, and scallion strips.

They laid a thin, warm pancake on the plate and gently topped it with crispy duck skin and tender meat.

On top of that I added crunchy cucumber and sharp scallion, drizzled on the sweet-savory special sauce, and rolled it all up.

The moment I took a big bite, the crispy skin burst with savory fat and the fresh crunch of the vegetables blended in richly. It was such an impressive, genuinely rich flavor — one I hadn't tasted in a long time — that I couldn't help but smile with every bite.

I'd recommend pairing it with another dish!

Rolling it up diligently in the pancakes solo, I was in total bliss at first, devouring it like a storm. But because Peking duck has such a strong, oily richness to it, the greasiness started creeping up toward the end.

Looking at the table next to me, I finally understood why everyone was pairing it with a spicy jjamppong or some other hot, punchy noodle dish.

Next time, I'm definitely coming with a friend so we can share the half duck with a spicy jjamppong on the side.

So, how was today's honest review of the Peking duck at Mirim Yangjang Suwon Time Villas?

✔️ It had been a while since I'd had proper duck meat — crispy on the outside, juicy inside — so it was a satisfying meal. Eating solo meant I couldn't enjoy a soup dish like jjamppong alongside it, which was a bit of a shame, but in terms of taste and visual appeal, it was absolutely worth the money. If you're craving some special Chinese food this weekend, why not head to Time Villas Suwon for a good meal?
