I visited Jeong Ji-young Coffee Roasters Haenggung Main Branch (정지영커피로스터즈 행궁본점), often named as a must-visit café if you're in Suwon. It sits right at what feels like the start of Haengridan-gil, so it's easy to find. Suwon is only about an hour from Seoul, making this a great stop for a weekend outing or a date course through Haenggung-dong's food spots.

Walking into the ground floor where the counter is, you first see roasting equipment, coffee beans, and a range of branded goods. Mugs, glass cups, T-shirts, and hats are all on display, which makes for a bit of fun browsing. True to a self-roasting café, drip bags and small-portion beans are also neatly arranged by type.

The basement, where you actually order, has a vintage, local kind of vibe.

The bakery display has mini madeleines and cookies ready to go. The refrigerated case is neatly filled with fruit cakes — Earl Grey fig cake, kiwi sando, and fresh mango sando. Nothing overly heavy, and all good matches for coffee.

The upper-floor seating area is decked out in wood and has such large windows that it never feels cramped. Sit by the window and you can look down over the alleys of Haenggung-dong — a nice quiet spot to enjoy coffee.

There's a nutty note to it. Maybe because they roast in-house, the aroma was deep and clean. Paired with the cold ice, it was refreshing to drink.

I stirred it evenly with a straw before drinking. The nutty, sweet coconut flavor mixed in nicely with the bitter espresso.

Mini madeleines

Bite-sized madeleines — easy to pick up and eat, and not dry at all, more on the moist side. A subtle buttery aroma came through, which went well with the Americano.
