Boulangerie Tan is popular enough to have a counter inside Hyundai Department Store, and I fell in love with it there, so I'd been curious about the main branch haha. I had a reason to be in Unjeong, so I finally visited the flagship. It's in Dongpae-dong, and honestly just looking at the bakery, it feels like Europe. The weather was great too — perfect day for bread!!!

How big is the shop and what is it like inside?

The Unjeong main branch was smaller than I expected. But even in that small space there were quite a lot of bread types, so it was fun to pick. Best of all, they kept baking inside the whole time, so the store was full of the smell of fresh-baked bread. Once you smell that, there's no way you're leaving without buying something.

Lescure butter — the one that got extra famous for being used at the Shilla Hotel! A bakery using Lescure butter, wow.

Look at all the bread on display. So cute and dainty, right? haha There were tons of delicious-looking pastries. This place seems to be known for baguette sandwiches and cornet pies. I'd already tried the sandwich last time, so today I went for the sweet breads instead.

Basic baguettes on display

You know how if a place's basic baguette is good, everything else is good too haha

Pistachio cornet pie sold out by 2pm

I got there around 2pm, and the pistachio cornet pie was already sold out ㅜㅜ Only the paid-for ones were left, so I could only look at them with my eyes... sigh. It was the item I wanted most, too. So I ended up only buying the vanilla cream one. Popular items run out early, so if you want to eat without missing out, I recommend visiting early! (before 1pm)

Went with dessert pastries today!! This place has a nice balance of meal breads and dessert breads, love that haha

Five dessert pastries packed to take home

Chocolate baguette, 5,300 won

There are so many chocolate baguettes sold these days. Lots of different styles out there, but this one wasn't just the baguette dough swapped for cocoa powder — it had walnuts and coconut chocolate chips mixed in, blending really well with the chocolate haha

Gourmet butter salt bread, 2,900 won

The textbook definition of salt bread! And with Lescure butter, that says it all.

Flan, 5,600 won: the French-style egg tart

My mom saw the bread I brought home and went, 'why is this egg tart so huge?' lol. It's called a French-style egg tart, and since the bottom is pastry, it adds crispness to the usual soft egg tart texture. An upgraded version~

Pain au chocolat, 4,500 won

Eating my way through this place's bread, I noticed a lot of the pastries have a really crispy texture. This one had those beautifully layered layers too, and I loved that texture.

Vanilla cornet pie, 3,500 won: the top pick at Boulangerie Tan

Missed out on the pistachio cornet pie, but the vanilla one was still there, so I grabbed it haha. It was as delicious as I hoped. Inside there's this fancy pastry cream? and the outside is crispy again, while the bread itself inside is chewy.... It's a pastry with a character all its own, so this is my top pick!!! Looks like they have cornet pies in various flavors too, so if you want to try one, I really recommend going early.
