Every time I visit Seongsu, there seem to be new great restaurants, so even choosing where to go is quietly fun, haha. This time, I wanted something a little different from what I usually eat, so I visited Bao Seoul Seongsu (바오서울 성수). If you like Taiwanese food, it may be a place you have heard of at least once. We wanted to try a bit of everything, so we ordered several dishes 😊

True to Seongsu, the restaurant was neat and casual, making it easy to drop in without any fuss. We had a relaxed meal, ordering several dishes to share, and places like this really are best when you order a variety and eat together, haha. Every dish looked good too, so as soon as the food arrived, we got busy taking photos first 📸

Classic Bao, Taiwanese Beef Noodle Soup, and Braised Pork Rice Bowl

We ordered these three dishes. Each had a different style, so it was fun to try them one by one, and sharing meant that even three dishes felt nicely varied for two people 🤍
It felt too bad to choose just one, so we ended up ordering all three 😋
The generously filled Classic Bao
We started with the Classic Bao, a steamed bun. I liked that it had more meat inside than I expected. The bun wrapping it was a little different from ordinary bread too—it was soft and fluffy, almost like a flower-shaped steamed bun. Eaten with the meat, it was mild and nutty in a delicious way 😊 Above all, I loved how generously filled it was, so you could really taste the filling in every bite.

The fluffy, flower-bun-like bao was delicious with its generous meat filling 🤎
Taiwanese beef noodle soup with a tangy finish
The dish I enjoyed more than expected was the Taiwanese beef noodle soup. When I think of beef noodle soup, I first picture a rich, heavy broth, but this one had a slight tanginess that made it much cleaner than I expected. Rather than feeling like something I would stop after a few spoonfuls, I kept reaching for the broth as I ate, haha. Slurping up the noodles with the meat, then taking a sip of broth, was such a good combination. I usually cannot eat much of a broth that is too rich or heavy, but perhaps because of that tanginess, I could keep eating it without getting tired of it until the end.

The tangy flavor kept this Taiwanese beef noodle soup from becoming tiring until the very end 🍜
Sweet and tender braised pork rice bowl
Last was the braised pork rice bowl. I like braised pork, so I had high hopes for this one too, and of course it was delicious with rice 🤤 The characteristically tender pork and seasoning went so well with the rice that I kept taking bites of them together. Compared with eating the meat on its own, the rice balanced the seasoning nicely and made it satisfyingly filling—a perfect meal dish.

So glad we chose all three dishes
We ordered three dishes this time, and because each had different flavors and textures, they were even more fun to eat together.

The Classic Bao was great for its fluffy bun and generous meat filling, the Taiwanese beef noodle soup stayed clean to the end thanks to its tangy broth, and the braised pork rice bowl made for a satisfying finish with its tender meat and rice 😊 I think it would be a nice visit not only for people who usually enjoy Taiwanese food, but also for a day when you want something a little different from the usual in Seongsu.

Final thoughts
The three dishes at Bao Seoul Seongsu each had their own appeal, so it was fun to choose and try them all. I especially enjoyed the Taiwanese beef noodle soup more than I expected; I loved that its lightly tangy broth did not become tiring until the last bite. The Classic Bao was delicious too, with its generous meat filling and fluffy, flower-bun-like bao, while the braised pork rice bowl was satisfying because the tender meat went so well with the rice. If you like Taiwanese food, or want something different from the usual in Seongsu, Bao Seoul Seongsu could be worth stopping by 🤎
