Jeongwang-dong chicken stew spot with glass noodles: Jeongjeong-a

In short

Jeongjeong-a Sikdang Jeongwang Branch is a Korean restaurant built around dakbokkeumtang (spicy braised chicken stew), in the Seochon shopping arcade in Jeongwang-dong, Siheung, Gyeonggi. The small dakbokkeumtang with a glass noodle add-on plus a large seafood pancake was more than two people could finish, so the leftovers went home in a takeout box. Alternating between the spicy chicken stew and the salty seafood pancake makes Jeongjeong-a Sikdang a solid choice for sharing in a group.

Stepping inside, there were several tables set up, and overall it had that comfortable, easygoing Korean restaurant feel.

Since the menu centers on dishes like dakbokkeumtang that simmer right in the pot, it felt like a great fit for family meals out or dinner with friends.

What to order together at Jeongjeong-a Sikdang

Table set before the food arrived

Here's what we ordered that day.

Order list of small dakbokkeumtang, glass noodles, and seafood pancake
  • Small dakbokkeumtang
  • Glass noodle add-on
  • Seafood pancake

We added glass noodles to the dakbokkeumtang, and picked seafood pancake as something to eat alongside it.

Small dakbokkeumtang: how much chicken do you get?

Small dakbokkeumtang served in a pot

Our dakbokkeumtang came out in a pot. There was chicken and potato in the red sauce broth, and you cook it bubbling away right at the table.

Once it started boiling, that spicy sauce aroma rose up. I tried the chicken and potato first, then added in the glass noodles.

As the noodles soaked up the dakbokkeumtang broth, they blended perfectly with the sauce — eating the noodles alongside the chicken and potato was great.

With the broth soaked in, the noodles had this chewy texture along with the spicy sauce. The potatoes soaked up the sauce and were soft to eat, and I kept reaching back and forth between the chicken and noodles.

Dakbokkeumtang meal that pairs well with rice

Dakbokkeumtang pairs well with rice too, so it'd make a solid meal order. I was too full for the fried rice though, and I keep regretting that~~

The seafood pancake we ordered on the side

Seafood pancake dipped in soy sauce

Dipping the seafood pancake in soy sauce added a nice savory touch. Pairing it with the spicy dakbokkeumtang kept things from getting one-note, and switching back and forth between the two dishes was fun.

Seafood pancake fried up big

The seafood pancake we ordered with the dakbokkeumtang arrived too. It was fried up nice and big, great for sharing, and packed with green onion and seafood — a whole different flavor from the stew. Switching from the spicy dakbokkeumtang to dipping this in soy sauce was a nice palate reset.

It came out big on a wide plate, packed with green onion and seafood. The outside was fried golden, and the inside was full of green onion and seafood mixed together. That packed seafood pancake was seriously good, totally recommend 👍

Takeout for leftovers: final thoughts on dakbokkeumtang in Jeongwang-dong

Takeout container packed with leftover food

The portions were huge, so we packed up the leftovers nicely to take home! It was so, so good even at home. If you're craving spicy dakbokkeumtang and crispy seafood pancake, or looking for a hearty Korean meal to share with a group in Jeongwang-dong, give Jeongjeong-a Sikdang Jeongwang Branch a try.
