This time I visited a Gachiul favorite in Bucheon — Gim Myeongju Tteuranchae Bapsang Bucheon Main Branch.

I'd been craving Korean food since morning, so for lunch I went looking for a Korean restaurant in Bucheon. Turns out there's a place in Wonmi-gu that feels like your parents' home cooking, so I headed to Gim Myeongju Tteuranchae Bapsang Bucheon Main Branch, a Gachiul favorite.

Where is Gim Myeongju Tteuranchae Bapsang, and is there parking?

Gim Myeongju Tteuranchae Bapsang Bucheon Main Branch is 800m from Gachiul Station Exit 2 and 800m from Bucheon Stadium Station Exit 1. Go into the alley next to Bucheon Sangnok School and head straight until you reach Jak-dong Hongdukkae Kalguksu — it's right behind that building. It's near the road leading up to Wonmisan mountain.

Since this Gachiul favorite is on the 2nd floor, it has a wide-open view — with Wonmisan mountain right there, the air was fresh and the greenery all around felt really healing.

Seating for 84: a Bucheon Korean restaurant for groups and family meals

With 21 four-person tables seating around 84 people, this place looked ideal for group dinners or family meals.

I thought it'd also be a great spot to bring my parents, so I want to come back.

Self-bar stocked with 12 kinds of banchan

The self-bar: 12 banchan with unlimited refills

The self-bar runs until 8pm and was stocked with rice and 12 kinds of banchan (side dishes), all unlimited refill, which I loved. Japchae (stir-fried glass noodles) has to be requested from staff separately.

The first thing that caught my eye was the fried eggplant — it looked so good I kept snacking on it while waiting for the food, and it really was delicious.

What we ordered: tteuranchae bapsang for two plus grilled mackerel

[ Order ] Tteuranchae bapsang ₩13,000 x2, grilled mackerel (per person) ₩16,000

The stone pot rice came full of glossy, well-cooked grains — I scooped it into a bowl first, then made sungnyung (scorched rice tea) and nurungji (scorched rice) from what was left.

Nurungji made after scooping the stone pot rice into a bowl

The tteuranchae bapsang and grilled mackerel we ordered arrived — stone pot rice, savory cheonggukjang, grilled mackerel, and 12 banchan made with seasonal ingredients, all fresh and generous.

Full spread of the tteuranchae bapsang and grilled mackerel

How did the grilled mackerel and cheonggukjang taste?

The mackerel was big and plump, grilled to be light yet crisp. They said they use top-grade Norwegian mackerel, and eating it with the glossy rice was so good.

Banchan including pickled chili peppers and japchae

Personally I loved the pickled chili peppers and the japchae — not too salty or spicy — and the fried eggplant was so good I refilled it twice.

Savory cheonggukjang with beans and tofu

And that savory cheonggukjang flavor! So good — you could really taste the beans, and the tofu was soft too.

This Gachiul favorite specializes in Korean home-style food, and you can eat comfortably and quietly, surrounded by the forest — I'd recommend it as a Bucheon Korean restaurant.
