Late-night izakaya in Anyang: sukiyaki with udon for two at Baichan

Where is Baichan and what are its hours?
Baichan is an izakaya-style bar at 31 Gwanpyeong-ro 182beon-gil, Dongan-gu, Anyang-si, Gyeonggi-do, South Korea, 204ho — a 175m walk from Pyeongchon Station Exit 2 toward the restaurant alley. It took exactly about 3 minutes, and it's on the 2nd floor, right near the fountain!! Hours are Mon–Sat 17:00–02:00, Sun 17:00–24:00. There's parking on the ground floor of the building and some space in the alley (though that one's probably paid).
It was on the 2nd floor right in front of the fountain. I was so hungry…
Once you go up the stairs, the sign is right there front and center, so it was super easy to find.
Baichan's window seats, counter seats and private room
We had a reservation, and they showed us to our seats — the window spot was great! There's also a room that fits 5-6 people, so group bookings seem possible too.
Looking at it from outside, it's really right in front of the fountain, so it's very easy to find.
The inside is clean, and like a cocktail bar it has counter (dachi) seats where you can sit alone or as a pair and enjoy the mood. Overall the wood-tone interior stood out, and it works fine for a blind date, a date, a company dinner, or a second/third round spot. What I liked most was that the tables had plenty of space between them. Sometimes at bars in Beomgye the tables are packed so tight you hear every conversation and it gets uncomfortable, but this felt like a proper izakaya office workers would actually go to. Comfortable and spacious.. The drink selection was huge too, from sake to beer and soju.. they even had highballs!
What's on the menu at Baichan?
The menu was really varied, and among it all, seafood dishes and soup-based dishes seemed to be the signatures. Besides the main nabe dish sukiyaki, there was sashimi moriawase, crispy tempura and karaage, crab-innard pasta — the range of Japanese dishes was pretty solid. I agonized between pasta/karaage/soup dish, but I was craving broth so I decided to order sukiyaki first and then order more side dishes after!!
While waiting for my friend..the crab stick and chicken chips that came out haha. The crab stick salad is delicious..the umami was insane ㅠ
While waiting for my friend, I looked ahead at what to order next. I told myself I'd order pollock roe cheese potato or karaage so the flow wouldn't break..
Sukiyaki for 28,000 won plus a 3,000 won udon add-on
Baichan's sukiyaki is ₩28,000, and adding udon noodles is ₩3,000. Once we added sukiyaki + udon noodles, this is how they set the table haha
Finally the sukiyaki arrived! ₩28,000 + ₩3,000 for the udon noodles. I also ordered a bottle of beer haha
Usually bar side dishes aren't that big, so I was caught off guard by how much there was. We ended up talking about whether we should order more side dishes, worrying about how much room we had left haha
Once it bubbled away and we ate some of the meat and vegetables, we put in the udon noodles, and they were so chewy, not too salty, and genuinely delicious. It seemed like it'd be super filling to eat the leftover broth with rice too. On a chilly day or a rainy day, or any day you want to warm your stomach, eating this with beer would honestly be.. great
It wasn't salty at all, just slurped right down.. We were even eating so much that the two of us couldn't order more side dishes.. The owner recommended adding a raw egg too, but my friend can't eat raw egg, so that was a shame. I should've added one myself…
From other reviews it looked like the pasta/yurinchi/karaage were also super popular, so I wanted to order more, but the portion was so huge that even after eating our fill, this much was left over … I'll have to come back with my friend.
Why Baichan suits a second or third round of drinks
Baichan stays open until 2am on weekdays, so it's a great spot for a second or third round! Best of all, the side dishes aren't only in the ₩20,000-30,000 range — there are plenty of lighter ₩10,000-range dishes too, which I really liked. I felt the staff paid attention to being kind and attentive the whole time, so the whole meal felt comfortable and good. Next time I'll have to try yurinchi or pasta paired with sake or a highball. Staying open late is such a plus haha
