In short

Kosi Konkuk University Branch is a house-made noodle udon restaurant in Gwangjin, Seoul, a 4-minute walk from Konkuk University Station Exit 9 and directly across from Common Ground. After shopping in Seongsu on a hot day, the writer came for cold udon and ordered tenbukkake udon at 11,000 won, the toritenbukkake udon set at 15,000 won, and an extra tonkatsu at 6,000 won. The noodles at Kosi Konkuk University Branch kept a firm, springy chew that made the cold udon genuinely satisfying.

Signature cold udon photo at Kosi Konkuk University Branch

I was hanging out in Seongsu and looking for good restaurants nearby, and ended up visiting Kosi Konkuk University Branch. I went because I wanted cold udon, and honestly, the udon noodles here were seriously delicious.🥹

Where is Kosi Konkuk University Branch, and is there parking?

Kosi Konkuk University Branch is on the 1st floor of 197 Achasan-ro, Gwangjin-gu, and it's open from 11:10 to 21:00, with a break time from 15:00 to 17:00. There's 1 hour of free parking in front of the store, a high chair available, and Zero Pay works too.

Exterior of Kosi Konkuk University Branch across from Common Ground

Kosi Konkuk University Branch is a 4-minute walk from Konkuk University Station Exit 9, and it's located right across from Common Ground. Since there's 1 hour of parking support in front too, it looked like a good option for people visiting by car.🚗

Inside Kosi: is solo dining comfortable?

The inside of Kosi Konkuk University Branch was bigger than I expected, and there was a separate bar table, so the layout made solo dining possible too.

The interior was bigger than I expected. The overall atmosphere was on the quiet side, which I liked, and I saw a lot of families and couples. There was also a separate bar table, so it looked like a good spot to visit alone too.

What the writer ordered at Kosi, and the prices

At Kosi Konkuk University Branch I ordered the toritenbukkake udon set for ₩15,000, tenbukkake udon for ₩11,000, and an extra tonkatsu for ₩6,000. That day I'd been shopping and walking around Seongsu so much that it was so hot.😂 So I ordered the cool, cold udon!

  • Toritenbukkake udon set ₩15,000
  • Tenbukkake udon ₩11,000
  • Extra tonkatsu ₩6,000

That's what I ordered. Besides these, there was also a wide variety of menu items like hot udon, donburi, and tonkatsu.

Tenbukkake udon, 11,000 won: how are the house-made noodles?

Kosi Konkuk University Branch's tenbukkake udon (₩11,000) is a cold udon topped with fried sweet pumpkin and fried shrimp, and it came out in under 10 minutes after ordering. The soy sauce comes in a separate bottle so you can add as much as you like.

I felt like the udon came out in under 10 minutes after ordering. I was so hungry, so I was happy the food came out fast.😂 First, the tenbukkake udon! It's bukkake udon topped with tempura, and this one had both fried sweet pumpkin and fried shrimp on it.

Bukkake udon soy sauce served in a separate bottle

The soy sauce comes in its own bottle, so you just add as much as you like. Even if you just pour in the whole default amount provided, the seasoning ends up spot on.haha

Since I don't like when the fried toppings get too soggy, I gently pushed the tempura to the side before carefully pouring the sauce in. If you like your tempura crispy, I'd recommend keeping it fully separate while you eat.👍

Then you just mix the sauce in well, and even just looking at it, you could tell the noodles were bouncy and chewy.🤤

Self-made cold udon noodles mixed with sauce

I heard this place makes its own noodles in-house, and the noodles really were delicious. I've been to plenty of places in Seoul that are supposedly known for good udon, and a lot of them ended up disappointing in terms of noodle texture. But at Kosi, the noodles were properly bouncy and chewy. Cold udon really does need noodles like this.🥹

The fried shrimp wasn't super thick, but it was just the right size to enjoy as tempura. The batter was really crispy too, but not so hard that it hurt the roof of your mouth.😂

Inari sushi served alongside the udon

And the inari sushi (fried tofu pouch rice) that came with it! It's a flavor everyone already knows, but it's still delicious, haha. The udon portion was also bigger than I expected, so by the time I finished the inari sushi too, I was really full.😂

Toritenbukkake udon set, 15,000 won: fried chicken and tempura

Kosi Konkuk University Branch's toritenbukkake udon set (₩15,000) comes with bukkake udon topped with 3 pieces of fried chicken, plus a side of tempura. The tempura included fried perilla leaf, sweet pumpkin, shrimp, and sweet potato.

Next up is the toritenbukkake udon set. Toriten is bukkake udon topped with fried chicken, and this one had 3 pieces of fried chicken on top.

Three pieces of fried chicken on the toriten udon

The fried chicken's batter was a bit different from the tempura batter. Maybe because they kept the chicken's fat intact, it had a moist yet crispy feel. With every bite you could taste that distinctive savory, fatty flavor of fried chicken, and I enjoyed it a lot.👍

Assorted tempura served with the set

When you order the set, tempura comes along with it too. This one had fried perilla leaf, sweet pumpkin, shrimp, and sweet potato.

Two pieces of fried shrimp in the set

The fried shrimp in the set was a bit smaller than the shrimp in the tenbukkake udon, but you got 2 pieces. The batter was crispy and delicious too! Out of everything, the fried perilla leaf was especially amazing.🥹

Was the extra tonkatsu at 6,000 won worth it?

At Kosi Konkuk University Branch, you can add an extra tonkatsu for ₩6,000. Just udon alone felt a little lacking, so I ordered the extra tonkatsu too.

Cross-section of low-fat tonkatsu

When you want both udon and tonkatsu, adding this on seems like a great option.😂 The pork cut had almost no fat, and its light, clean flavor went really well with the crispy batter.

Kosi Konkuk University Branch: the verdict

  • Food came out fast, which I liked
  • The self-made udon noodles are genuinely bouncy and chewy🍜
