Clam-broth kalguksu and bossam at Daseon Kalguksu, Suwon Station
In short
Daseon Kalguksu Main Branch is a Korean noodle restaurant near the end of the Suwon Station Rodeo Street in Suwon, Gyeonggi. Known for its spicy kal-nakji, the writer wanted a clean broth this time and ordered the plain kalguksu with rich clam broth alongside a medium bossam, finishing off the barley rice and kimchi too. If you hate waiting, an off-peak dinner hour is the way to go.

Location and parking for Daseon Kalguksu Main Branch, a Suwon Station kalguksu favorite
Today I want to introduce Daseon Kalguksu Main Branch, a kalguksu (knife-cut noodle soup) restaurant in Suwon — if you're looking for good food near Suwon Station, this is a place I'd really recommend stopping by.
Daseon Kalguksu Main Branch sits near the end of the Suwon Station Rodeo Street. There's no dedicated parking, so I parked at a nearby public parking lot.
Hours and break time
10:30 ~ 22:00 (break time 15:30 ~ 17:00) — there's a break time, so keep that in mind when you visit!
Stepping inside, the place had a cozy, nostalgic feel, like an old-fashioned family home.

When to go if you want to avoid waiting
The interior isn't huge, but turnover is good so we didn't wait long to eat. Since it's a popular spot with waits, I deliberately went in the middle of the dinner lull, and there were still quite a lot of people eating. If you hate waiting, I'd recommend visiting during that in-between dinner window.

Menu lineup and prices
The menu is basically just kalguksu, but you can also enjoy seafood pancake and boiled pork as sides.

I thought the seafood pancake and boiled pork would make perfect drinking snacks on a rainy day. But I'm a kalguksu person at heart, so I showed up excited!!
Prices were on the cheaper side too, considering how expensive everything is these days!

A place with good kimchi is always the real deal
They say a place with delicious kimchi is a genuinely good restaurant. Daseon Kalguksu's kimchi is truly delicious... The combo of noodles and kimchi speaks for itself, and the freshness of the kimchi made it even better. I ended up eating the kimchi before the food even arrived.
The barley rice that comes out before the kalguksu
Before the main meal, Daseon Kalguksu Main Branch prepares barley rice to tide you over,

I love rice to begin with, so having barley rice come out before the noodles felt filling and satisfying. As they say, Koreans run on rice power... The barley rice itself is nothing but seasoned raw vegetables and sesame oil, but for some reason restaurant barley rice always tastes amazing haha. Especially the barley rice you get before kalguksu — I think that's the best kind.
Medium bossam — is it enough for two?
At Daseon Kalguksu I ordered the plain kalguksu along with a medium-sized bossam.

I expected the bossam to take a while, but it came out faster than I thought — even before the kalguksu — so the food assault began right away. It stays warm the whole time thanks to the steamer's heat, which I highly recommend!!!!
It had been a while since I'd had bossam, and it felt nourishing and was genuinely delicious... The portion was bigger than expected too, so the medium size is plenty. If you think kalguksu alone won't be enough, I'd recommend ordering this as a side.
Plain kalguksu with rich clam broth
I used to love eating kalguksu near the coast, so I'm happy that I don't have to go far anymore to get delicious kalguksu.....

Daseon Kalguksu Main Branch is actually known for its spicy kal-nakji (octopus noodle soup), but that day I wanted a clean broth, so I ordered the plain kalguksu! The plain kalguksu comes with a rich clam broth, so anyone who likes seafood kalguksu should love it without complaint. The noodles were really chewy and soft too — you could tell they weren't the usual machine-cut texture, which I liked. There were finely chopped chives in it too, which added to the refreshing taste of the broth.

I'd heard for a long time that Daseon Kalguksu Main Branch was delicious, and it lived up to the hype! The portion was big, but it was so good I finished every last bit haha. The combo with the kimchi was seriously insane. The staff at Daseon Kalguksu's Suwon main branch were also friendly, so I had a pleasant meal.
Why are there so many delicious things in the world... Looking around at other tables, a lot of people were eating the spicy grilled octopus kalguksu, so next time I definitely have to try that.

If you like kalguksu, I think this is a place worth visiting at least once :) If you're looking for good food near Suwon Station or the best kalguksu restaurant near Suwon Station, I'd recommend giving Daseon Kalguksu's Suwon main branch a try.
