Today's post is about a hot pot spot that's perfect for a rainy, moody meal ✨ "Ok Doenjang Suwon Hommaesil Branch" :)

Parking and seating
Here's the exterior of Ok Doenjang! They support parking at Delight Building 2, so you can drive over without any worries!

There were baby chairs and a range of seating from 2-person tables to group tables :) Tables for 4 and up came with two induction burners, so I felt like I could order more variety without any trouble~~

Having two induction burners at one table was such a nice touch — if you go with a group, you can order all kinds of dishes and cook them at once...!

Menu and order
Here's the menu! The set menus looked great too~ You can even swap out the hot pot type~ I went with the beef pork belly sundubu (soft tofu) hot pot for two and the squid minari pancake ✌🏻

🥢 The side dishes pulled their weight too
While waiting for the sundubu jjigae (soft tofu stew), I picked at the side dishes one by one — kimchi and seaweed salad served up clean and simple, great alongside the stew. Especially with a bite of something spicy followed by a sip of hot sundubu broth — that's the flavor that makes you want another drink hahaha

Beef pork belly sundubu hot pot for two
Minari (water celery), soft tofu, and beef pork belly were all piled in generously, so the look of it alone was already great 👍🏻 The minari aroma hit the moment it arrived, and the pork belly was so tender and high quality!

🍲 Beef pork belly sundubu jjigae
The main order, beef pork belly sundubu jjigae! It arrived bubbling away with a look that promised great things, so I took a spoonful of the broth right away — spicy with a deep savory kick, perfect as a drinking snack. Honestly, one bite in and I ordered a beer right away^^,,,,,, Inside there was a generous amount of beef pork belly and soft tofu, so it was fun picking through the ingredients too.

And once it had simmered for a bit, the staff cracked in two raw eggs! 🥚🥚 As the egg dissolved into the broth, it went softer and gained a nutty richness — a totally different feel from the first taste! I already like sundubu jjigae, but this one wasn't just spicy for the sake of it — the rich beefy flavor plus the nuttiness of the egg kept my spoon going back for more.

🦑 Minari squid pancake
And the minari squid pancake we ordered alongside! It looked great the moment it landed on the table, and tasting it confirmed it — crispy outside, moist inside, so good. Especially since there was so much squid in it — every piece I picked up came with squid trailing along hahaha. Too much squid can sometimes mean a chewy texture, but here it wasn't tough at all, nice and tender — texture was great too.
And the faint minari aroma cut through the oiliness even though it's a pan-fried dish, which kept me reaching for more. Crispy pancake + springy squid + fragrant minari turned out to be a better combo than I expected 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 Personally, out of everything I ate that day, the minari squid pancake is the one I'd especially recommend as a beer snack! 🍺

🍜 And then, extra broth + kalguksu noodles!
As we ate, the broth started running low, so I asked just in case if they could add more — and yes, broth refills are free! 👍 We poured in a generous amount of extra broth, let it simmer, then finished it off with kalguksu (knife-cut noodle) noodles added in. This combo is just impossible to resist... 😂 Eating it this way meant we got to enjoy the whole pot to the very end. Kalguksu noodles aren't optional, they're essential ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

How the combo came together that day
Overall, ordering the beef pork belly sundubu jjigae together with the minari squid pancake that day felt like a really solid call! The sundubu jjigae came packed with beef and soft tofu, and stirring in two raw eggs made the broth deeper and softer — loved that. And adding the free broth refill plus kalguksu noodles partway through meant not a single drop of that broth went to waste by the end. 😂
On top of that, the minari squid pancake had a crispy texture and was genuinely loaded with squid, and since it wasn't chewy at all, it was a perfect match for beer!
Bottom line... a hot, spicy broth paired with a pancake made the beer go down so smoothly that evening 🍺 Next time I go, I'll definitely be getting the sundubu jjigae with kalguksu noodles combo again! 😋
Once that spicy broth starts bubbling away, the sight of it alone makes you want a drink...🍺 Seeing it again now makes me crave it all over again,,,,✨🤤🤤🤤🤤

And over to one side, I noticed they also sell kimbugak (fried dried laver), Umma Gim (seasoned laver), and gochu-bugak (fried dried pepper)! They'd make a nice snack or side dish to pick up on the way home after your meal :)
Who is this good for
Overall, Ok Doenjang Suwon Hommaesil Branch was satisfying with tasty food and a varied menu! It's a great spot to visit in the evening in Hommaesil-dong when you want a casual drink alongside a filling meal. The sundubu jjigae with kalguksu noodles added in was especially perfect as a drinking snack! If you're looking for a dinner spot, a light drinking spot, or a place for a work dinner in Hommaesil-dong, I recommend Ok Doenjang Suwon Hommaesil Branch :)
