I've been on a handmade burger hunt lately, so this time I tried Base Burger in Gwanggyo — turns out it's actually a pretty well-known franchise!!

How to find Base Burger Gwanggyo Avenue France Branch

Base Burger Gwanggyo Avenue France Branch is on the 2nd floor of Avenue France, next to Lee Chunbok Tuna. There are so many good restaurants in Gwanggyo's Avenue France that it can be hard to find at first — pass Artbox and keep walking into the more open area, and you'll spot Lee Chunbok Tuna on the 2nd floor, with Base Burger right next to it.

Is Base Burger good for solo dining in Gwanggyo?

There are quite a few 4-person tables inside, but a lot of people come here to eat alone! I guess burgers are just an easy meal to have solo haha. Anyway, if you're looking for a good solo-dining spot in Gwanggyo, I recommend Base Burger 👍🏻

Base Burger menu and the three items ordered

Starting from the classic Base Burger, there's a Double and Triple Base Burger for people who like something hearty, plus a chicken burger, mushroom burger, and even a kids' burger — the burger lineup is very diverse. There are tons of sides too. This time I ordered the Base Burger, chicken burger, and chilli mozzarella cheese bar.

Unlimited potato chips at the Base Burger self-bar

The best thing about Base Burger is that the potato chips are unlimited!!! They're that honey-butter-chip type of chip, crispy enough that I kept reaching for more 🤤 And the self-bar even has ketchup and mustard!! Nice touch~ 👍🏻

I ordered one of them as a combo! With a combo, instead of a side you get cola added, and they told me the cola comes with one free refill 🫶🏻

The classic Base Burger

I figured the Base Burger must be the signature menu item, so I ordered it, and after one bite I got why. It doesn't look particularly flashy at first glance(?), but the flavor is seriously!! incredibly!! rich!!

First off, the bun is lightly toasted golden on one side, with what smells like a buttery aroma and a subtle nuttiness. But the inside chews up soft — such a great bun!! (bread-lover approved)

The meat patty had real meaty depth. You know those burgers that push through purely on sauce flavor?! This was on a totally different level — that heavy, satisfying taste coming straight from the meat itself was great.

Midway through I suddenly felt like squeezing on some mayonnaise, so I did, and that was pretty tasty too haha. The tomato and lettuce inside felt quite fresh too, so I enjoyed it to the last bite without getting sick of it 😋

Chicken burger with tartar sauce

For the chicken burger you can choose from house-made sauces (tartar/red mayo)! I went with tartar, and instead of that heavy, greasy feeling you'd typically expect from a chicken burger, the tartar sauce kept refreshing my palate throughout!

With the first bite, the chicken patty was crispy on the outside and moist and tender inside 🍗 The more I ate, the more the sauce soaked into the chicken and the tastier it got 🍔 If you want to really taste the meat, go for the Base Burger; if you want something a bit fresher, I recommend the tartar chicken burger!!

Chilli mozzarella cheese bar

The chilli mozzarella cheese bar felt exactly like those chilli cheese sticks that were super trendy for a while! Rather than being spicy from the start, you first taste the saltiness of the cheese, and then the chilli heat kicks in at the end 🔥🔥 Totally recommend it if you like bold, punchy flavors.

See the cheese stretching!!! 😭😭 The cheese wasn't melted into some watery mess — it had a bit of elasticity to it as it stretched, so it was nice and chewy and delicious. If you can't handle greasy food, I'd recommend ordering this as a side to cut through the greasiness with some spice while eating your burger haha.
