Grilling fish at home is such a hassle — the smell lingers forever and you're stuck wiping oil splatters off everything. So whenever I'm craving good grilled fish, I just head out.

And you know oven-grilled fish is on a whole different level from home-cooked, right? Haha. This time I went to Hwaddeugeuro Gan Godeungeo Bisan Branch, a go-to spot in Bisan-dong, Anyang, where you can enjoy crispy-on-the-outside, juicy-on-the-inside oven-grilled fish in a comfortable space.

From the generous self-bar to the friendly smiles, this is a warm review of a meal that left the whole family full and happy.
What were the parking and the vibe of the place like?
The thing I liked most as soon as we arrived at the restaurant was the parking.

When you're out for a family meal, tight parking can wear you out before you even get in the door — but here parking was really easy, so we could walk into the restaurant without any stress.

The moment we arrived, my first thought was: it's so clean!! And everyone was so kind!!

I visited around 11:30am and there were already quite a lot of people. I could tell right away that they really care about cleanliness overall.

It's great for visiting with a baby too — there's a separate kids' menu and baby chairs were well set up.
Warning, you'll get full! An eco-friendly self-bar packed with freshness

Another reason it's impossible not to love this place — the neat, tidy self-bar.

There's a really wide variety of basic side dishes prepared, and you can freely grab more whenever you run low without feeling awkward about it.
There's even a bibimbap corner, so mixing it up with fresh seasoned vegetables and rice makes a whole bowl disappear in no time. Every single side dish was mild and clean, not overly seasoned, so it's a lineup anyone would enjoy no matter who you bring.
I already had a bowl of tteokbokki (spicy stir-fried rice cakes) before the meal even started.

And after finishing the meal, I had some sungnyung — that happy, full feeling was so good.
Textbook crispy-outside, juicy-inside cooking from a 500-degree oven

Since we wanted to try a variety of flavors, we ordered generously: two oven mackerel sets, one Spanish mackerel set, one spicy pork set, and tteokgalbi (grilled short rib patties) for the kid.

The main dishes finally arrived! Just look at that glossy grilled fish!! Think of it as one whole piece of fish per serving.
Because it's grilled instantly in a 500-degree oven, there wasn't a hint of fishy smell — the skin was crispy and the flesh was moist, a textbook example of crispy-outside, juicy-inside.

The mackerel had that distinctive savory richness that makes you devour rice, and the Spanish mackerel was thick and mild-flavored — dipped in soy sauce, it filled my mouth with happiness. The Spanish mackerel especially had so much flesh you could really sink your teeth in, haha. You know how hard it is to get a mouthful that full of fish meat? Haha.

Since eating fish alone felt like it wasn't quite enough, we also ordered the oven-grilled spicy pork, which was packed with a sweet-and-spicy smoky flavor and paired perfectly with the grilled fish.
The seasoning smelled amazing, though personally I'd say it's on the spicier side.
Tteokgalbi for the kid
And the tteokgalbi we ordered for our child!

It was sweet and juicy, so our kid finished a whole bowl of rice with it. With such a varied menu, it really seemed like something everyone, regardless of age or gender, could enjoy. It's a great spot to bring the grandparents too, so I'm planning to go back.
A warm family meal spot that's good for bringing the parents along

By the time we finished eating, everyone was patting their bellies with satisfied smiles. The side dishes were so varied and plentiful that it felt like a hearty home-cooked meal.
A clean, comfortable space, a plentiful self-bar you never have to feel awkward about refilling from, and grilled fish taken to a whole new level by the oven's crispy-outside, juicy-inside finish! I really felt there's no better place to bring parents who love fish, or to have a hearty family meal with the kids.

If you're looking to share a clean, warm meal with the people you love today, be sure to visit Hwaddeugeuro Gan Godeungeo in Bisan-dong.
