Gondre rice add-on at a Baekseok-dong grilled fish restaurant, Cheonan
In short
Hwadeuro-ganggodeungeo Cheonan Main Branch is a premium grilled fish restaurant on Handeul 2-ro in Baekseok-dong, Cheonan. The writer had an early lunch here, ordering the mackerel set for 16,000 won with a gondre rice (short-leaf aster rice) add-on for 3,000 won and the Spanish mackerel set for 20,000 won with brown rice, plus tteokbokki and nurungji from the self bar. Hwadeuro-ganggodeungeo Cheonan Main Branch is a premium grilled fish restaurant at 46-5 Handeul 2-ro, Seobuk-gu, Cheonan-si, Chungcheongnam-do. It's open 11:00–21:30, with a break time on weekdays from 15:30–16:50 (none on weekends), and last order is 14:50 for weekday lunch, 20:50 for dinner, and 20:50 on weekend evenings. Note that it's closed during the Chuseok holiday (Sep 24–25).
I remembered seeing a Hwadeuro-ganggodeungeo shop in my neighborhood before, but the main branch is in Cheonan?! I heard it's a famous spot for grilled fish, so I ran straight over for lunch today, craving grilled fish after a while ❤️
A healthy table straight from the sea and the land. Hwadeuro-ganggodeungeo Cheonan Main Branch has a parking lot right in front, so it was super convenient to drive there without worrying about parking,

and it turned out to be a place famous enough to have been featured on TV :)

Inside the restaurant: waiting time and table ordering
The interior was spacious and clean, a great spot for dates, family meals, or group gatherings alike. Even though I went during an early lunch slot, customers kept coming in, and it looked like it gets really busy during peak hours — there was even a waiting registration stand out front.

Ordering is done through a table order system right at your seat, with menus divided into set menus, main menu, kids menu, side menu, seasonal menu, extras, alcohol, and drinks.
Also worth noting — there's a Naver Place receipt review event where you can get a free can of soda ⭐️ (pay first, request a receipt / receive the receipt and scan the QR code / write a photo review, hit like ❤️, give five stars, save the location / show the review to get your free drink).

Ordering the 16,000-won mackerel set and 20,000-won Spanish mackerel set
Here's what we ordered:
- Mackerel set ₩16,000 (rice choice — gondre rice +₩3,000)
- Spanish mackerel set ₩20,000 (rice choice — brown rice)
Once you order, they set the table with a basic napa cabbage soybean paste soup, japchae (glass noodle stir-fry), and various side dishes,

What is on the self bar?
At the self bar, you can freely help yourself to tteokbokki (spicy rice cakes) and extra side dishes :)

The self bar had free white rice, dessert nurungji (scorched rice), tteokbokki, wood ear mushroom japchae,

soybean paste cucumbers with peppers, Jeju deodeok (bellflower root) namul, lotus root salad, altari kimchi, napa cabbage and bibimbap toppings too!! You can grab whatever suits your taste, which was so nice haha.

Is the 3,000-won gondre rice add-on worth it?
When ordering the grilled fish set, you can choose white rice or brown rice by default, or upgrade to gondre rice for an extra ₩3,000 — we added the brown rice and gondre rice both 😊 The brown rice was nice, but the gondre rice was even better!! If you love gondre rice, you have to add it and try it 😍😍

How did the oven-grilled mackerel and Spanish mackerel taste?
The main dishes, grilled mackerel and grilled Spanish mackerel, showed up right away — fish grilled in a wood-fired oven just can't be bad, right?! 😘😍

A table packed full of rice, grilled mackerel, grilled Spanish mackerel, japchae and side dishes, and tteokbokki too — now it's time to eat haha.

As expected from a spot known for grilled fish, there was no fishy smell at all, and it was properly crisp outside, moist inside 😊 The fish flesh wasn't dry at all — juicy and delicious enough to eat plain,

but dipping it into the wasabi soy sauce and mixing in bites of everything else, you lose track of how full you're getting haha. At the end, I scooped up some dessert nurungji from the self bar to finish off the grilled fish once more :)

Is Hwadeuro-ganggodeungeo worth a trip for grilled fish in Baekseok-dong?
Being a place known for grilled fish, not only the fish itself but everything at the self bar was delicious, and the staff were kind too — I left Hwadeuro-ganggodeungeo Cheonan Main Branch in a great mood 😍😍 I heard they have a boyang (nourishing) set for their 10th anniversary, so I'll have to come back to try that next time!! If you're looking for a good restaurant in Baekseok-dong or a grilled fish spot, I recommend giving Hwadeuro-ganggodeungeo Cheonan Main Branch a visit 🙏
