Suwon Hommaesil pancake restaurant: squid minari jeon at Ok Doenjang

In short

Ok Doenjang Suwon Hommaesil Branch is a doenjang (soybean paste) hot pot and boiled pork Korean restaurant on the 1st floor of Hommaesil Delight Tower 2 in Suwon, Gyeonggi. Two diners ordered the 39,000 won feast set for two and received assorted boiled pork hot pot, squid and minari (water celery) pancake, and assorted boiled pork salad swapped in for the beef tendon stir-fry. The squid pancake, 22,900 won on its own, was the most memorable dish for its sheer amount of squid, and the 2 hours of free parking in the building made the visit easy.

I was out and about in Suwon when I heard this place was good, so I stopped by Ok Doenjang Suwon Hommaesil Branch! I went with one other person, so we ordered the feast set for two, which comes with assorted boiled pork hot pot, squid-minari (water celery) pancake, and boiled pork salad.

Full table spread of the feast set for two ordered together

For me, the squid-minari pancake, absolutely loaded with squid, was the best dish of the day 🤍 If you're looking for a Hommaesil lunch spot and wondering about parking, the menu, and portion sizes, let me walk you through the feast set for two in detail :)

Where is Ok Doenjang Suwon Hommaesil Branch, and where do you park?

Ok Doenjang Suwon Hommaesil Branch is on the 1st floor of Hommaesil Delight Tower 2. If you drive, you can use the same building's basement parking lot, and you get 2 hours free after eating.

The sign was visible right away from outside the building, and big photos of the signature dishes — hot pot, pancakes, boiled pork — were posted in front of the store, so it was nice to browse the menu before even going in. We came by car, and using the same building's basement parking was quite convenient. With 2 hours free after eating, it seems like a stress-free option for anyone driving over from the Hommaesil area for a meal :)

Inside Ok Doenjang: seating and an induction burner at every table

The interior of Ok Doenjang Suwon Hommaesil Branch was very clean overall, with plenty of seating. Since it's a hot pot place, every table has its own induction stove.

Once inside, the whole place was really clean. Tables were lined up in rows and there was more seating than I expected — even though it's a hot pot restaurant, it didn't feel cramped or cluttered, just tidy.

Table fitted with an induction stove for the hot pot

Since Ok Doenjang is a place where you cook the hot pot yourself, every table has an induction stove. Once the hot pot comes out, you cook it right at your seat, so you can keep eating it piping hot — a nice touch. The tables also weren't packed too close together, so it was comfortable to eat as a pair.

Ok Doenjang's menu: doenjang hot pot, boiled pork hot pot and specialty dishes

Ok Doenjang Suwon Hommaesil Branch's menu is really varied, centered on doenjang (soybean paste) hot pot and boiled pork hot pot. From 11:00 to 15:00 there's a lunch discount, so you can get the hot pot dishes a bit cheaper.

As you can see from the menu board, Ok Doenjang has a surprisingly wide range of options. Their signature doenjang hot pot can be ordered with different ingredients — beef pork belly, freshwater snails, squid, shiitake mushrooms, beef tendon — and there's also a separate soft tofu hot pot. From 11:00 to 15:00 the lunch discount applies, so hot pot dishes come out a bit cheaper.

The boiled pork hot pots were also divided by cut of meat — assorted, beef short ribs, shank, tendon — and you could choose the portion size: 200g, 350g, or 600g. On top of that, there were specialty dishes like squid-minari pancake, freshwater snail-minari pancake, beef tendon stir-fry, tofu kimchi, and boiled pork salad, so there were plenty of options whether you're here for lunch or drinks in the evening.

What comes in the 39,000 won feast set for two, and what you can swap

We went with the ₩39,000 feast set for two. The default lineup is assorted boiled pork hot pot + squid-minari pancake + beef tendon stir-fry, but the squid-minari pancake or beef tendon stir-fry can be swapped for other dishes.

Rather than ordering separate items, we wanted to try a few things together, so we went with the set — and we swapped the beef tendon stir-fry for boiled pork salad instead.

  • ✅ Squid-minari pancake
  • ✅ Mixed boiled pork salad

So that's what we ended up ordering.

Banchan side dishes and Ok Doenjang's Mom's Gim

Stir-fried kimchi and seasoned bean sprout side dishes

The side dishes (banchan) were stir-fried kimchi and seasoned bean sprouts, and honestly, both were surprisingly good — I kept reaching for them even before the mains arrived haha. They especially went well alongside the hot pot and boiled pork.

Ok Doenjang's Mom's Gim set out for sharing

On the side, there was also Ok Doenjang's Mom's Gim (seasoned seaweed) set out for us to help ourselves. This gim is also sold separately — ₩2,500 per pack, with a 4+1 bundle also available. Eating rice with a bit of hot pot broth and a sheet of gim really did feel like home cooking, and it went perfectly :)

Is the feast set enough food for two? All three dishes filled the table

With the boiled pork hot pot, squid-minari pancake, and boiled pork salad all out at once, the portions were genuinely huge 😂 One hot pot, a pancake nearly filling a whole plate, plus a separate boiled pork salad — the table was completely full of food. Compared to sharing just one hot pot between two people, having the option to eat a spoonful of hot broth, then a bite of pancake, then some pork salad made the meal a lot more fun.

Assorted boiled pork hot pot: beef shank, short rib, tendon and free broth refills

Ok Doenjang's assorted boiled pork hot pot has beef shank, short ribs, and tendon together, along with minari and glass noodles. You simmer it on the table's induction stove, and if the broth runs low, they'll top it up.

Assorted boiled pork hot pot with shank, short rib, and tendon

Each cut had a slightly different texture, so it was fun picking through the different parts. You simmer the hot pot right on the table's induction stove. As it cooks, the broth gets richer and richer, and I really loved this broth! It got deeper the longer it simmered, and was great paired with the meat.

Boiled pork hot pot meat served with dipping sauce

The pork was good dipped in the sauce that came with it, or paired with the stir-fried kimchi or gim.

There was also a separate dipping sauce for the pork, so you could season it to your taste. As it kept simmering and the broth ran low, they topped it up for us, so we could keep eating warm food until the very end :)

The pick of the day: squid minari pancake packed with squid

The best dish of the day was the squid-minari pancake. It's ₩22,900 as a standalone order, but having it included in the feast set made it feel like the best value of the meal.

Squid-minari pancake packed with squid

And the best dish of the day, without question, was the squid-minari pancake 🤍 The moment it came out, the first thing I noticed was the sheer amount of squid 😂 Even from the photo you can see how much squid was packed between the layers. Before I even took a bite, I was already surprised by the visual and the sheer amount of squid.

Cutting off a piece with scissors, it wasn't just a few squid pieces sitting on top — squid kept showing up on the inside too. With every bite, I wasn't just tasting minari, but also chewy, springy squid alongside it, which I loved.

Cross-section of a cut piece of squid-minari pancake

The minari's subtle aroma came through too, and combined with the squid, it didn't taste like a plain flour pancake at all. The edges were slightly crispy while the inside was full of squid, so the texture contrast was great too. The dipping sauce for the pancake also came separate from the pork sauce, so I could enjoy each dish on its own terms. It's ₩22,900 as a standalone menu item, but having it included in the set made it the most satisfying dish of the feast set for me. Honestly, this stuck with me even more than the hot pot that day 🤍

How was the assorted boiled pork salad swapped in for the beef tendon stir-fry?

Ok Doenjang's boiled pork salad tosses seasoned greens together with boiled pork, and the seasoning wasn't too strong, so it was easy to keep picking at. This was actually my first time trying it.

From the photo alone, I assumed the greens were the main event with just a little pork mixed in, but once I dug in with my chopsticks, there was more pork tucked inside than I expected. Unlike eating plain boiled pork, this was tossed together with the greens so you'd get both in one bite. Overall the seasoning wasn't too strong, so it was easy to keep eating, and the greens were fragrant and tasty too! Alternating between the hot pot, the pancake, and the pork salad, the three dishes actually balanced each other out really nicely.

Table nearly cleared after finishing the feast set

Before we knew it, the table looked like this...😂 We'd said at first that it was a lot of food, but we ended up finishing almost all of it. From the boiled pork hot pot to the pancake to the pork salad, each dish had its own distinct feel, which made it fun to eat them all together.

Final thoughts on Ok Doenjang Suwon Hommaesil Branch 🤍

Ok Doenjang Suwon Hommaesil Branch, visited on a day out in Suwon! The basement parking in the building was convenient, and the clean interior made a good first impression right away. Most of all, the feast set for two was much more generous than I expected going in, and the boiled pork hot pot broth was rich and delicious. And my pick of the day was, without a doubt, the squid-minari pancake, packed full of squid 🤍 The pork salad rounded things out nicely too.

If you're looking for a Hommaesil lunch spot, a hearty Korean meal in Suwon, or a Hommaesil restaurant with easy parking, this could be worth checking out :) With hot pot, pancakes, and pork salad that also work well with a drink in the evening, it's worth keeping in mind if you're looking for a Hommaesil spot for drinks too.
