It's been genuinely ages since I've been to Suwon Station. Is there anyone who doesn't love fresh, chewy yukhoe (raw beef tartare) with a glass of soju?

I went near Suwon Station recently and totally by accident stumbled on a yukhoe spot I loved. Yukhoe Dokjon, Suwon Station branch! Honestly I went in with zero expectations and the freshness blew me away. I want to share it, so here's my honest visit review!

Where is Yukhoe Dokjon Suwon Station Branch and what are its hours?

Yukhoe Dokjon Suwon Station Branch is at 30 Hyanggyo-ro, Dream Plaza 1F, Paldal-gu, Suwon, Gyeonggi, South Korea, and it's open 16:00 - 02:00. What I noticed right from the entrance and all the way inside was just how good the atmosphere felt.

Let's take a look at the Yukhoe Dokjon menu. Yukhoe Dokjon Suwon Station Branch specializes in Korean beef tartare, sashimi, and live octopus — lots of things you can enjoy fresh. They even have a separate certified Korean-hanwoo-beef mark.

What I picked this time was the san-nak hanwoo yukhoe (for two) at ₩34,000. Just a heads up — seaweed and cheese need to be ordered separately as add-ons! All the other sauces come included by default.

The soup that comes as standard: beef and radish soup

A soup comes included by default, and it kind of looked like fish cake broth at first glance, so I was going to write that in the review — but then I looked closer and it was beef radish soup. I think it would've been even better with a slightly richer beef flavor. Anyway, they light a solid fuel burner under it so you can eat it piping hot.

How did the live octopus and beef tartare taste?

The live octopus and yukhoe I ordered arrived. The octopus was nuttier and tastier than I expected, and the yukhoe felt genuinely fresh and delicious.

With yukhoe, freshness is basically the deciding factor for taste, right? Here it felt like it was sliced the moment it was ordered. The bright red color made it obvious just by looking that this was good quality meat.

I popped the yellow egg yolk, mixed it evenly through the yukhoe, and took a bite together with thinly sliced pear... it was so savory, and I immediately thought, yep, this combo really works.

The hanwoo yukhoe combo and the san-nak hanwoo yukhoe were clearly the popular picks.

Thanks to freshness that didn't seem to have gone through freezing, the more I chewed the more the umami and subtle sweetness kept popping. It's been a genuinely long time since yukhoe moved me like this! Once the yolk was mixed in, we couldn't resist and just piled it straight onto the yukhoe.

Eating yukhoe together with live octopus lets you get protein, iron, zinc, and B vitamins all at once. Yukhoe is beef, so it's rich in protein and iron, and live octopus has protein and taurine, which can help with stamina and energy. It's a great combo when you especially need a boost.
