It's really gotten chilly enough in the evenings that you need a hot bowl of soup, right?! So my husband and I headed to Morakmorak Seolleongtang Ansan Seongpo Main Branch, known as one of the best seolleongtang (ox bone soup) spots in Ansan.

Inside Morakmorak Seolleongtang in Seongpo-dong: atmosphere and interior

The way to Morakmorak Seolleongtang on the basement level 1 of Star Plaza

Morakmorak Seolleongtang Ansan Seongpo Main Branch is on the basement level 1 of Star Plaza, so you can park directly in Star Plaza's dedicated lot and just go down one floor by escalator! Once you're down the escalator, you have to pass through the mart on the left to find it. We always went right and ended up circling around... ㅠㅠ

Corridor of the restaurant row inside the basement arcade

It's inside a basement shopping arcade. You know the type — those old apartment complex basement arcades packed with restaurants, haha. It has such a nostalgic, cozy vibe.

Nostalgic interior of the basement arcade restaurant

When it's crowded, it gets pretty lively and loud, so it's better for a casual meal than a quiet date. There was no wait when we went, but plenty of people were already eating.

There were a lot of solo diners and quite a few families too. The tables are spaced generously, so it's comfortable for two people to sit as well!

Spaced-out tables and the open kitchen

It's an open kitchen, so you can catch glimpses of the cooking, which was fun haha.

Morakmorak Seolleongtang menu and prices in Ansan

  • Seolleongtang ₩9,000
  • Special seolleongtang ₩14,000
  • Galbitang ₩14,000
  • Yukhoe bibimbap
  • Other meat dishes like yukhoe (raw beef tartare) and boiled beef slices

They also run a butcher shop, so I felt reassured about the meat's freshness. The self bar had side dishes, water, and utensils all ready to go, which was convenient.

Basic side dish spread of kimchi, kkakdugi, fernbrake, onion, and ssamjang

The basic side dishes were kimchi, kkakdugi (cubed radish kimchi), fernbrake, onion, and ssamjang (seasoned dipping sauce), and you could grab more from the self bar if you ran out. It's not common for fernbrake to be a side dish! My fernbrake-loving husband was thrilled. You just tell the staff your order and they get it ready quickly.

₩14,000 galbitang with beef shank and glass noodles

I'm a broth person, so of course I chose the galbitang at Morakmorak. It arrived milky white in a stone pot, and just the sight of it got my expectations up.

The broth was rich yet clean, with a savory depth that kept unfolding without feeling heavy. The rib meat was cooked so tender it slid right off the bone!

Tender, slow-cooked meat in the galbitang

I'm more of a kkakdugi person than a kimchi person, and once I added a piece of kkakdugi on top, I honestly couldn't stop going back for more, haha.

And it wasn't just rib meat — there was also what seemed like beef shank, boneless meat, giving a nice variety of textures, plus a generous amount of glass noodles! Mixing in rice at the end made me feel warm and full all the way through.

After finishing a bowl of the broth, I could really feel the chill melting away from my body!!

How much raw beef comes in the ₩10,000 yukhoe bibimbap?

My husband ordered the yukhoe bibimbap at Morakmorak, and the amount of yukhoe (raw beef tartare) was one of the most generous I've ever had. Mixing the vegetables and yukhoe together and taking a big bite gave this amazing combo of crunchy texture and soft raw beef.

My husband was so satisfied he said he wants to order it again next time, haha. For ₩10,000 with this much yukhoe in the bibimbap, the value for money is honestly outstanding...

Ordering the yukhoe bibimbap also gets you a side of seolleongtang broth — talk about two birds with one stone! Even the bibimbap alone was a filling meal. Finishing up a hearty meal in the distinctly market-like atmosphere of Seongpo-dong somehow left me feeling settled and content too.

Is Morakmorak Seolleongtang in Seongpo-dong, Ansan worth a dinner visit?

With generous portions for the price and deep, rich broth, I'd recommend Morakmorak Seolleongtang Ansan Seongpo Main Branch if you're looking for a good seolleongtang spot in Ansan. There's a good variety on the menu too, so it seems like it'd be fun to try something different each visit. It's a comfortable place to visit whether you're dining solo or with family. Next time I definitely want to try the special seolleongtang too, haha. Revisit intent: 100%:)
