Jung-gu Busan Korean BBQ restaurant with outdoor pork ribs: Bueongi Maeul
In short
Bueongi Maeul is a Korean BBQ restaurant in Jung-gu, Busan, serving oven-seared pork ribs finished over charcoal. My partner and I had 800g of pork ribs and bibim-guksu for two, then soaked up the outdoor-table mood after dark. Verdict: a great dinner for savory marinated ribs and an open-air evening.

My partner said we absolutely had to eat meat today—let’s de-stress over pork! So dinner was decided: meat!!!! And they said there was even that open-air-table vibe where you grill outside. In weather like this, how could I possibly resist?!
Where is Bueongi Maeul, and where can you park?

It is at 27 Bosu-daero 36beon-gil in Jung-gu, Busan, 537 m from Exit 1 of Toseong Station. Reservations, group visits, takeout, delivery, and Wi-Fi are available, and you can bring pets too.

There is also a paid public parking lot right beside Bueongi Maeul, so visiting by car was easy. I used the lot directly next to the restaurant! At first I saw two Bueongi Maeuls and went, huh? It looks like there are a first and second location. They are both run by the same owner, so keep that in mind when you visit.
A local Korean BBQ restaurant feel in Nampo-dong
Round tables lined the dining room.

And another charm of Bueongi Maeul is its outdoor tables! When a cool breeze blows in the evening like it has lately, grilling meat outside is exactly the open-air dining vibe, isn’t it? Hahaha. Plenty of people were eating outside when I visited, and there were lots of guests who looked like regulars too. It felt even more like a local favorite because it seemed to draw not only travelers but also people from nearby who come often.
How does the 800g pork rib platter arrive?

That day, we ordered one platter of pork ribs—an impressive 800g. We were fully planning to eat until we burst, hahaha. As soon as the order went in, the owner started searing the pork ribs in the oven.

We could watch the initial cooking process right beside us. There were no fewer than five caution stickers on the oven—just how careful do you have to be?! Am I the only one who finds that cute? Haha. Bueongi Maeul first sears its pork ribs in the oven, so the outside turns golden while the inside stays juicy. Watching the meat cook while we waited somehow made me even more excited.
Side dishes served with the pork ribs

They set out the basic side dishes one by one: pickled radish wraps, ssam greens (wrap vegetables), stir-fried kimchi, myeongi namul (pickled wild garlic leaves), seasoned scallion salad, pickled radish, pickled chilies, and myeongran (seasoned pollock roe)!

There were so many different combinations to enjoy with the pork ribs. And then steaming hot gyeranjjim (Korean steamed egg) appeared too!
Finishing the oven-seared ribs over charcoal

The charcoal arrived, and the oven-seared pork ribs were ready too!!!!

Now it was time to really grill. The meat had already been cooked once in the oven, so all we had to do was grill it again over the binchotan charcoal until beautifully golden. The smoky aroma rising from the meat the moment it hit the coals was so good. Pork ribs really do taste best grilled over charcoal, right? We snip-snip cut them into bite-size pieces, then put mushrooms on the grill alongside them. As the surface browned and the marinade lightly caramelized, I was seriously drooling hahaha.
Pork ribs that were tender, not overly sweet
First, I tried a piece of meat without anything else. Oh? The marinade was not as sweet as I expected. Sweet seasoning is the first thing that comes to mind with pork ribs, but here the sweetness was not overpowering, so I could taste the meatiness of the pork along with the charcoal flavor.
The outside was slightly chewy from the charcoal grill, while the inside was tender and juicy; the more I chewed, the more savory the meat tasted! After the oven sear and then another pass over charcoal, the outside came out nicely golden while the inside stayed soft, so the texture was great too.

I wrapped it in the seasoned scallion salad, in myeongi namul, and in pickled radish wraps.

And I tried wrapping it in my beloved perilla leaf too!!!!!!!!
Bibim-guksu for two after the meat
As we ate the meat, something felt just a little missing. I went back and forth over ordering doenjang-jjigae (soybean paste stew), but this time we ordered bibim-guksu (spicy mixed noodles).

The bibim-guksu was for two! Seriously, such a huge portion hahaha. It came topped with crisp vegetables and a generous shower of sesame seeds, and even when I lifted it with chopsticks, the noodles felt satisfyingly substantial.

One bite and the spicy, tangy-sweet seasoning spread through my mouth, while the crisp vegetables gave a good crunch and completely reset the richness of the meat.
The open-air dining mood got even better after sunset
You cannot let this atmosphere pass you by in weather like this. As the sun slowly set, it got dark outside, and the lights came on one by one, Bueongi Maeul took on a completely different mood.

My partner said we should de-stress over meat, and wow, we really did hahaha. It would be a great stop when you have wandered around the food stalls at Kkangtong Market and want a filling meat dinner afterward. We came in the evening, had pork ribs and bibim-guksu, and walked out with the day wrapped up perfectly :) It is easy enough to get to from around Nampo-dong, so go enjoy some grilled meat with that open-air-table feeling!
