Busan galbi restaurant, dinner with kids: Choryang Hyeongje Galbi
In short
Choryang Hyeongje Galbi is a pork galbi (marinated rib) restaurant in an alley by Exit 1 of Choryang Station in Dong-gu, Busan. Arriving at 7:30pm with a child, the writer waited 30 minutes behind four parties, then ordered domestic marinated pork galbi at 12,000 won, cold kimchi noodles at 5,000 won and doenjang stew at 3,000 won. Between ribs deeply steeped in marinade, a savoury noodle broth and staff who greet every table warmly, nothing at Choryang Hyeongje Galbi tasted ordinary.

Busan means good food! Busan Station means Choryang! And Choryang means a pork galbi place so good it beats out bulgogi — that's what I'm here to introduce today. If locals go out of their way to visit, that says it all, right? A secret alley restaurant I want everyone to know about but also kind of want to keep to myself: Choryang Hyeongje Galbi.

Choryang Hyeongje Galbi opening hours and closing days
Choryang Hyeongje Galbi is open daily from 11:00 to 22:50, with last order at 21:50. It's closed on the second Tuesday of every month.
How to get to Choryang Hyeongje Galbi, and where to park
Come out of Exit 1 at Choryang Station and you'll find Choryang Hyeongje Galbi through a back alley :) The address is 15-4 Choryang-ro, 1st floor, Dong-gu, Busan.
Just a heads up — Choryang-dong itself isn't a neighborhood with great parking infrastructure, so you'll need to use a nearby paid lot or find roadside parking in the evening. Best option is public transit, so relax and take the subway or bus :)

A 30-minute wait at 7:30pm: inside Choryang Hyeongje Galbi
When I arrived at Choryang Hyeongje Galbi it was 7:30pm — and there were already 4 parties waiting ahead of us...!

We did our best to enjoy the wait with my kid! After almost 30 minutes, it was finally our turn!

The place was fully booked, but after 8:30pm customers started to trickle out. So we ended up having a pretty late dinner haha. The interior had that bustling, packed-in feel of the classic, comfortable alley restaurant we all know and love!

We were starving, so we ordered right away! What I really loved about Choryang Hyeongje Galbi is that the menu isn't overwhelming — it's simply marinated, plain ribs, pork belly, and pork neck.

You can eat at Choryang Hyeongje Galbi in person, but if you love it and want more, they also run a Smart Store so you can order online! Even the scallion kimchi from the restaurant is available for purchase, so if you try it here and want that exact taste at home, be sure to order through the Smart Store!
Choryang Hyeongje Galbi also offers in-store pickup after ordering, just so you know! Pickup is possible the same day or from the next day onward, but you must come within the pickup window of 14:00 to 22:00 :)
What the marinated pork galbi tastes like
We started with the main event — the marinated pork ribs!

The banchan (side dishes) that come out after ordering! Side dishes often come in quantities you can never finish, but here they gave us exactly the right amount of exactly what we needed — perfect.

The staff: Choryang Hyeongje Galbi's biggest strength
And! The biggest strength of Choryang Hyeongje Galbi!! I didn't expect the international staff to be this kind...! I've been to a lot of restaurants where international staff work, but honestly not many of those places felt warm or friendly in terms of service, so I'd kind of resigned myself to thinking that's just how it is... But at Choryang Hyeongje Galbi, everyone except the kitchen staff and the main employee was an international worker, and every single one of them treated us with the same bright smiles and kindness. I was genuinely touched >_<

Finally, the star of today's meal!!! The quality of the meat looked amazing, so glossy...! The whole time it grilled, the smell of meat and marinade blending together was incredible! The wait was so hard...!

One bite with scallion salad, one bite wrapped in lettuce. So how did it taste? This wasn't just meat that had a sauce poured over it right before serving — it was meat that had actually been well aged in the marinade!
Sides to order: cold kimchi noodles and doenjang stew
After tasting the meat, I figured if the main dish was this good, the sides had to be great too, so we ordered right away! Kimchi noodles!

A bite wrapped in noodles too! The broth wasn't the usual store-bought broth taste — it was that deeply savory broth you can only get at Choryang Hyeongje Galbi!

The doenjang stew was also incredibly tasty, with that rich, savory doenjang flavor! Not a single ordinary bite at Choryang Hyeongje Galbi?! I'm planning to order ribs online soon. If you haven't visited yet, I hope you'll go check it out :)
