Aewol sunset dinner: gukbap with rice on the side, Handam Guksu
In short
Handam Guksu Gwakji Aewol Branch is a noodle and gukbap (rice soup) restaurant on the first floor at 33 Aewol-ro, Aewol-eup, Jeju, a five-minute walk from the Aewol café street and the Handam Coastal Trail. A family of four, half a year into living on Jeju, ate dinner there at sunset: extra-large dongchimi bibim guksu (chilled radish-water spicy noodles), salgogi gukbap (lean pork rice soup) with the rice served separately so it was easy to feed their child, handmade tteokgalbi (grilled short rib patties) and meat mandu (dumplings). With kids' tableware, a baby chair and a self-serve bar, Handam Guksu made for a satisfying dinner out with young children.

Hi, it's Rini Woni's family. The weather in Jeju was gorgeous and perfect for traveling today. It's still hot when the sun is blazing at midday, but around sunset it feels absolutely perfect for a walk.

Even though our family has lived on Jeju for about half a year now, Aewol still feels a bit like a tourist spot to us, so we end up visiting it like a little trip on weekends and holidays.

Where is Handam Guksu Gwakji Aewol Branch, and where do you park?
Handam Guksu Gwakji Aewol Branch is on the first floor at 33 Aewol-ro, Aewol-eup, Jeju-si, Jeju. Aewol is a great place to enjoy good food, cafés, and a seaside walk all in one, so we come here often — and this time, since we were staying overnight at a nearby stay, we decided to check out Handam Guksu Gwakji Aewol Branch. Looking it up, it turned out to be a local favorite among Aewol residents.

We heard they support 1 hour of parking at Aewol Handam Parking next to Landy's Donuts, and Handam Trail Parking next to Olive Young, so parking was easy haha. Just note that Handam Parking 1 and Handam Parking 2 are not supported.

This local favorite is right on a main road, about 10m from Landy's Donuts and Feels Burger, so it wasn't hard to find. It's also about a 5-minute walk from Handam Coastal Trail and the Aewol café street, making it easy to combine with a walk or a café stop after eating.
The sunset sea view from Handam Guksu at dinnertime
We visited Handam Guksu Gwakji Aewol Branch for dinner around sunset. The Jeju scenery while we ate was honestly beautiful.

Aewol is already famous for its ocean views, but while traveling, finding a place where you can actually eat while looking at the sea matters quite a lot too.

A delicious bowl of noodles plus the Jeju sea atmosphere really made it feel like a proper trip. I think this place fits well for anyone looking for an Aewol noodle restaurant who wants not just good food but also that distinctly Jeju atmosphere.
What's on the self-serve bar at Handam Guksu
Handam Guksu Gwakji Aewol Branch has side dishes and various tableware ready at a self-serve bar, so refills are easy. Kids' tableware, scissors, and tongs were also clean and neatly stocked, so we could just grab them ourselves without having to ask staff — really convenient.
There's also a baby chair, so families with kids can eat comfortably too.
What our family of four ordered
We ordered extra-large dongchimi bibim noodles (spicy noodles in radish water kimchi broth), salgogi gukbap, handmade tteokgalbi, and meat mandu.

We were really craving the spicy and cool dongchimi bibim noodles, but there were also plenty of dishes the kids would like, so it's a great spot for everyone from kids to adults.
Salgogi gukbap: rice served separately on request
Handam Guksu Gwakji Aewol Branch has rice soup dishes too, not just noodles, so we ordered one for the kids. It's a rice soup made with a generous amount of lean Jeju pork and a rich bone broth.

What was especially nice was that we could ask for the rice to be served separately! When you're eating with a kid, being able to feed the broth and rice separately is subtly really convenient. And there was a ton of meat, shredded finely, so the texture was great too. The seasoning was just right, and the kids ate it up really well.
Extra-large dongchimi bibim guksu
The dongchimi bibim noodles come with cool dongchimi broth, a special sauce, and a generous amount of Jeju pork.

The spicy-tangy bibim noodles combined with the cool dongchimi really woke up our appetite. And with all that meat piled on, one bowl was hearty enough to fill you up.
Handmade tteokgalbi, full of flavor
A dish that was great to order while eating with the kids was the tteokgalbi.

The soft, richly flavored handmade tteokgalbi is easy for anyone to enjoy, and it's a great side dish for when noodles alone don't feel like enough. If you're looking for an Aewol restaurant good for kids and also worrying about what your child can eat, this kind of menu lineup will be a relief.
Meat mandu at Handam Guksu
Lastly, the meat mandu we ordered pairs well with noodles or rice soup, so it was great to share as a family.

Really soft with a full filling, and it especially matched well with the bibim noodles.
Why Handam Guksu works for dinner with kids
The biggest reason I felt Handam Guksu Gwakji Aewol Branch is a solid pick for a restaurant with kids in Aewol is that beyond the food itself, they had kids' tableware and a baby chair ready, which made eating with the kids so much easier.

When traveling Jeju with kids, pretty cafés and good restaurants are nice, but whether your child will actually eat well matters most. Seeing our child drink the pork rice soup broth down to the very last drop was honestly so satisfying haha.

Our first kid ate well, and our second kid gave a big thumbs up in front of Handam Guksu Gwakji Aewol Branch saying it was so good. It really lived up to being a local favorite in Aewol.
A good sit-down meal on an Aewol trip
On this Jeju trip, we were staying at a nearby place and looking for somewhere to have dinner when we found this spot — and I especially loved that after eating, we could walk straight to the Aewol café street. If you're looking for an Aewol noodle restaurant, want to try Aewol-style pork noodles, or are a family traveling with kids looking for a kid-friendly restaurant in Aewol, this one's worth checking out.
If you're traveling Jeju with kids like us, it could work well to plan a course around having lunch at a good Aewol restaurant and then walking along Handam Coastal Trail to the café street.
Good food, Jeju ocean views, and a walk afterward, all in one visit — that's what Handam Guksu Gwakji Aewol Branch gave us. We were staying nearby and picked it as our dinner spot, and in the end, it turned out to be a really satisfying choice.
