Sweet potato mousse cheese katsu and cold soba at Gohobi Katsu, Suwon

In short

Gohobi Katsu is a Japanese tonkatsu (pork cutlet) restaurant on Maesan-ro near Suwon Station, with counter seats throughout. The writer ordered the sweet potato mousse cheese katsu for 16,000 won and the icy cold soba for 10,000 won, and got four big cutlet pieces plus buckwheat noodles in a clear broth. The cold soba cut the richness of the fried cutlet, making Gohobi Katsu a filling choice even for a solo meal.

Gohobi Katsu sits a 7-minute walk from Suwon Station's Rodeo Street and a 2-minute walk from the Suwon Tax Office — a solo-dining-friendly tonkatsu spot near Suwon Station. It's not far from the station at all, making it easy to visit, and the vibe was relaxed and easy to eat in.

Inside Gohobi Katsu: counter seats and atmosphere

The name Gohobi comes from the Japanese word for 'gift,' and apparently the space is meant to feel like a special gift itself! Japanese-style posters cover the walls and the overall vibe is cute and detailed — honestly a nice spot for a Suwon date too.

Every seat at this Suwon location is tachi (counter) seating, which naturally makes it comfortable for solo diners. That said, the space itself is on the smaller side, so I'd recommend visiting in small groups at this Japanese restaurant! Parking is available underground at Dongin Trueville.

What's on the menu at Gohobi Katsu?

The signature menu items at this Japanese restaurant near Suwon Station are four: special premium rosu katsu, rosu katsu, hire katsu, and whole mozzarella cheese katsu. True to a great tonkatsu spot, the menu is varied — cordon bleu pork cutlet, kimchi cheese nabe pork cutlet, and more.

Limited-quantity items include donteki (grilled pork), mazesoba set, perilla oil bibim soba, menchi katsu, katsuo udon, and chicken karaage curry udon. With so many options, it seems like a great place to order and share.

I ordered the sweet potato tonkatsu and cold soba, and before the mains arrived, the staff neatly set out rice, miso soup, and side dishes. At Gohobi Katsu, rice and miso soup come standard with any set menu order.

Sweet potato mousse cheese katsu, 16,000 won

Gohobi Katsu's sweet potato mousse cheese katsu is ₩16,000 — I'd recommend it if you like sweet potato. I've been ordering cheese katsu topped with sweet potato mousse a lot lately, and it's a foolproof choice every time!

The set comes with tonkatsu, salad, salt, wasabi, rice, spicy pepper, pickled radish, and miso soup. The sweet potato tonkatsu comes as four pieces, and each piece is huge. The savory cheese katsu and the sweet sweet potato blended together really well — a great combo.

Which sauces are on the table?

The salad comes without dressing, so I added the sauces prepared at each table. There were basic tonkatsu sauce, spicy tonkatsu sauce, sesame salad dressing, apple-carrot sauce, and even furikake.

Icy cold soba, 10,000 won

Gohobi Katsu's icy cold soba is ₩10,000, and I ordered it as a side dish — I personally really enjoyed it! Tonkatsu alone can feel a bit lacking, but this cold soba really cuts through the richness of the fried cutlet.

They apparently make the broth with a special recipe, and the clear yet deep broth quality was excellent. The seaweed topping was a nice kick too!

Mixing in a bit of wasabi partway through gave the soba a sharper kick and made it even richer. Gohobi Katsu has plenty of tonkatsu options, and I'd recommend the tonkatsu and cold soba combo. Next time I want to try the donteki I've been curious about.
