Gyukatsu sets for a group of four near Yeouido Station: Izawa
In short
Izawa Yeouido Direct Store is a gyukatsu (breaded fried beef cutlet) restaurant on Yeouinaru-ro near Yeouido Station in Yeongdeungpo, Seoul. Four people visited on a weekday, pushed two tables together and ordered four gyukatsu sets at 18,000 won each; even with one grill shared per two people, the cutlets cooked fast enough that nobody had to wait their turn, and extra charcoal or a fresh grill plate could be requested free through the kiosk. The sirloin gyukatsu at Izawa was tender and nutty without a single piece of tendon, and all four cleaned their plates.

This is Izawa, the Yeouido restaurant where the first bite was so good I let out an involuntary yelp. I traded my dignity for the crunch and nuttiness of gyukatsu, and I really want to share it with you all.
Oh right, yes, I did receive some services for free. But I'll review it as transparently as spring water. Seriously. Seriously, seriously. It was seriously delicious.

First to arrive, woohoo~

At Izawa, the whole party has to arrive before you can be seated. Also, if there's a long wait, there's a chance you'll be asked to share a table.
It must really be a hot spot — apparently singer Lim Young-woong, everyone's son, and mukbang YouTuber Hiimbap have both visited.

Seating for four at Izawa — and can you eat alone?
When our group of 4 visited Izawa, they pushed two tables together for us. Since I came on a weekday, luckily it wasn't too crowded.
There are solo seats too, and I saw a few people dining alone. Lucky Yeouido office workers,, they can just swing by Izawa after work,,

Ordering four gyukatsu sets at 18,000 won each
At Izawa, you order at your table via kiosk. We ordered the gyukatsu set (x4). This is the signature dish, made with sirloin, apparently. Price: 18,000 won per person!!

The paired grills are so exciting. One grill for every two people.
Look at those flames poking out. My friend next to me was like 'why are you even filming this,~' as I decided whether the heat was medium or well-done.

Here comes the 4-cutlet lineup.

How did the sirloin gyukatsu taste?
Ah, I know this taste now. It looks so good. The sirloin comes out fried crisp on the outside, and even after grilling it stays tender and nutty. Everyone said it was delicious the moment they took a bite, and as I mentioned, I lost all sense of dignity.

Wow, gorgeous. It comes with shredded cabbage, which I remember had a sesame sauce drizzled on it. Not that this would ever happen, but if the gyukatsu ever feels too greasy or repetitive, you can refresh your palate with the cabbage.

Izawa's two dipping sauces and the rice portion
This is the side dishes, sauces, rice, and soup that came with it. Both sauces were delicious, but I thought the brown sauce was relatively lightly seasoned, so it maximizes umami without overpowering the gyukatsu's natural flavor. The rice portion is surprisingly generous — finish it all and you'll be stuffed.

Now let's grill this guy 🔥🔥🔥

Ahh. It's also great with a little wasabi on top. I've decided I'll eat gyukatsu on my birthday from now on. Truly a top-tier dish.
Let no grill plate go empty

One grill per two people: does it slow four diners down?
Yes~ this gyukatsu turned me into a total fool for it, and it makes sense, since there wasn't a single tendon in it. Even with one grill shared between two people, the gyukatsu cooked so fast that there was no traffic jam and no discomfort eating. You know gyukatsu just needs two flips on each side to cook, right!

You can request more charcoal or a grill plate swap via kiosk at any point. Free, of course! If you eat fast, you might even finish with just one plate. I've seen it happen,, 🫢

Is the 18,000 won gyukatsu set at Izawa worth it?
After the locust swarm passed through,, everyone said it was delicious and cleaned their plates. In taste and portion, both, I think this dish is well worth 18,000 won. If you love gyukatsu, you'll definitely fall for this place.
Great to come with two, great with four, and solo dining works too — a gyukatsu restaurant near Yeouido Station! Visit whenever you're craving Japanese food.
+ Reservations available via Catch Table! Recommended for those like me who hate waiting in line,,
